  1. Cheers guys, how do you remove it? I seem to remember when I dropped the box, not being able to remove it, so had to leave the box in situ... Thanks Jay, I'll get this old one out and test it, it'll probably be knackered, but there has been quite a lot of butchery done on the actual speedo unit, so we'll see, if it's goosed, I'll give you a buzz mate, cheers.....
  2. Hiya peeps, my speedo ain't working, so I'm guessing it's gonna be the speed sensor... It's an auto, could anyone tell me, or more specifically post a picture of the speed sensor so I can find it? (many thanks :-) I have heard that it is removable without major work, but from what I have looked at, nothing is, so a point in the right direction would be very helpful..... Cheeeeeeeers Z heds....
  3. It'd probably take less petrol to torch it, than it would to drive it for a bit :-) Haha, but still that doesn't bother me, love it, haha........
  4. Haha, nice one, but I can't find my blow-torch, anyone got one???
  5. Hey all, how do you reset the ECU after doing a diagnostic? (ie. so the previous error code(s) are forgotten?) Cheers.....
  6. Where is your alarm sounder located? If it is near to where the buzzing is coming from, it could be that, I had a similar problem, although mine was from water damage... Get your self some thin bendable metal, and make a U-shape, that'll go straight onto the battery terminal, and effectively make it bigger, thus, proper connection... HTH mate...
  7. Tell me about it mate, that's nothing compared to all the other work I've done fixing somebody elses complete butchery and cock ups, everytime I remove something, what lies behind it usually defies belief, but hey, I got her really cheap, and it keeps me off the streets, mind you, also keeps the Zed off the streets too :-)
  8. I also need an odometer if anyone has one floating around, as the previous owner super-glued it up so the milage wouldn't change! D*ck head :-)
  9. Hi all, I've got rid of the botched led conversion on my speedo and pods, does anyone sell a bulb kit to put it back to standard? If not, as there is 3 different types of bulb, can anyone tell me the names/numbers of the bulbs so I can pick some up? Cheers.....
  10. I don't know the answer mate, but I'd run a diagnostics first thing anyways....
  11. It sounds to me like it's not the engine it's self, but something being driven by the engine, perhaps alternator bearings or something similar... Try turning on your air con on, see if there is a difference, and turn on everything electrical you can, to put a load on the alternator with someone listening, see if that makes any difference, and try taking off the cam belt covers and seeing if it's coming from there mate..... HTH.
  12. Hey all, this isn't a question, but thought I'd tell you something.... I bought my Zed, without knowing the amount of botchery that had been done that I couldn't see. The latest thing is, the speedo wasn't working, or the odometer, so I have removed it, and guess what? Someone has super-glued the odometer solid, so the miles don't go up! Unbelieveable, so the milage is totally incorrect, who knows what it really is! Not too bad tho, cos I've done a complete re-build from the block up, and also feel better because I know where the guy I bought it off lives! Haha... How dare he abuse a Zed like he has, wait till I see him :-)
  13. Thanks mate. The wires for the converter were exposed, and I know one of them is +12v, so possibly that could have shorted to ground, is there a fuse for that? (the cover from my fuse box is all in japanese :-) I think I'll put the pods back to standard and get some indiglo dials....
  14. Tut tut tut, the speed limit is 70 ya know, haha, balls to that :-) I think it will mate, but if in doubt, screw it on, not a big job. I refuse to by anything from Halfrauds mate :-) Erm, I get them from a electronics parts place, maybe try maplins or something? They are about 2-3 mm thick foam in the middle, and come in strips usually, but like I said, if in doubt screw it on, if you REALLY have to, you'll get ya white caps from, urgh, Halfrauds :-O Have fun matey....
  15. It probably wont have holes in it when ya buy it, I'd buy some sticky pads and do it that way mate, much easier, looks better, and wont fall off if ya put a good few on (they stick like sh*t to a blanket :-) If not, you'll have to drill ya holes, and you'll get some of the white caps from any car shop.... HTH.
  16. Oreet peeps, gonna pick ya brains again :-) I took her for the first drive after the re-build, and the speedo isn't working, neither is the trip milage, but I never noticed if the odometer is working. Someone has done a LED conversion on it, and the pods, so I have removed the lot today, and they have made a bit of an abortion of it. Also, as it's an import, there is a KPH to MPH converter fitted (badly) inline with the feed to the speedo. Is this necersary, as the dials have been changed to MPH? Also, the boost gauge is not working either, I can't see anything obvious for that tho... Also, I don't like the leds, the light is too direct, only lights up where the led is, so I may go standard, but I know you can get direct led replacements, could anyone tell me the bulb type I need? And if anyone has used them, are they any good? Cheers y'all.... Tudor...
  17. Hmmmm, good point mate... Like I said, I can't really give it the beans as It's only done about 5 miles since the re-build, but I have had it to around 5k for a moment, and no limiter, I'll keep scratching around, it's all a little weird really, but I'm starting to think it's the wires coming from the loom, as putting a 1 meg resistor in does not clear up the error code. Ah well, I'll get there in the end! Cheeeeeers... (any other advice will be lapped up guys :-)
  18. Thanks mate, I'll do that......
  19. Hey all, I bought my lovely Zed in a bad way, some fool tried to do stuff to it and ballsed it up. I got it with only the exhaust down pipes and back boxes, no mid-section, but it came with a de-cat pipe. But, there are two cables under the middle of the car that have been cut, that I think were gas sensors going to the cat? And when I drive it and give her a few revs, a warning light flickers on and off on the dash, the red light looks like a cat with 3 heat wave lines coming from the top of it, what does this light mean? It could be possible that the cables are shorting out, as they have been cut very sloppily, I'll sort that tomorrow. Are these essential things that need to be replaced? Any suggestions peeps??? Also, slightly digressing, (it's an auto) but what exactly does the power button do? And the hold button? I can't really find out myself, still need to run her in as I've just done a full re-build, so can't give it any beans :-( Thanks alot ya'll...........
  20. Thanks mate, I took her for a spin just before, and the speedo isn't working either, and someone has replaced the standard backlights with LED's, not very well by the looks of it, so I'm thinking they have ballsed something up on the PCB, nothing I can't fix, so I'll have a look tomorrow. By the way, it was f**king rapid, so I'm still happy regardless! :-) :-)
  21. Ah well mate, that's not a problem I've ever had to deal with (yet :-) But I'm sure when all the Zed geniuses get home from work, they'll see ya right matey. Best of luck pal...
  22. What are the symtoms of her running in safety mode??? Is there a rev limiter etc. ? Cheers...
  23. Thanks mate, and yeah, numb nuts here should have replaced it during the rebuild, ya live and learn, engines been out twice already, don't fancy it again, but, if needs must... I mean the sensor that feeds the stock boost gauge, do ya know where it is, it could be the gauge itself, it's not something I've worked on before.... Cheers geese....
  24. Could it not be the switch mate?? Down button working, but not the up one? Is it the drivers a pass side? If it's the pass side, then try both switches, if it works on one, it's ya switch, on the drivers side you only have one switch (obv), but that's the first thing I would try matey... HTH.
  25. Hi all, I've got the old error 34, although I haven't yet found whether it is the sensor (most likely) or the loom after it, I was wondering which is the best route to go down, re-location or by-pass... Obviously I would want to re-locate it or replace, but I have heard that alot of aftermarket ECU's don't have safety maps, I have a Mines ECU, is it worth shelling out for a dett sensor, or would bypassing it be just as good? It is bypassed at the moment, but only temporarily, as I've just finished the re-build, so wanted her to start up proper etc. The other thing is, my (stock) boost gauge isn't working, and haven't ever driven one of these before, cannot tell if it is safety boost or not, has anyone else had this fail before? It has mines speedo dials on it, so someone has definately had the speedo out, and there was an after market gauge in the car, tho not connected, am I right in thinking that the sensor for the gauge is right on the air intake at the front? Cheers all, you guys are life savers!
