  1. Stick a multi meter on it, and set it to, well I can't remember exactly what voltage, but DC volts, and spin the end, it basically works like a dynamo you used to have on your bike as a kid, you should get a reading if it's working... Like grunt said, the manual is what ya need, sure you'll find it easily on here :-) And technically yes, it is a sealed unit, but can be opened and repaired, it was my Dad who fixed mine (hense the thread mentioned earlier, for which I (him) have yet to do a write up for :-) HTH, good luck matey...
  2. I haven't seen my dad matey, but, have you taken the cog off? After take the cog off, you remove the other ends plastic cap, the one with the wire, it's pretty niggly i think, but with that off, the whole innards should pull out, shaft and all..... I think... I will update this ASAP, but been massively busy lately, busiest (and most drunk) time for a musician, haha.... Happy new year everyone......
  3. Yeah they would cause problems, any pipe with a bad seal potentially could cause your car to run like a bag of, well, poop.... Not too sure which bit ya mean there, can ya be more specific? (although someone else with sooooooo much more knowledge than me will come along in about 30 seconds and tell you exactly what it is) :-)
  4. What, next to the 9 pence beans? :-) Ya can't knock em, I bought a laptop from Aldi for a grand (???) it was the dog's doo dahs :-)
  5. Cheers, that's nice to know, at least something is normal some of the time, haha......
  6. Nice one Znut, i think you might have saved many people a few quid with that link...... :-) :-) :-)
  7. An after-market boost gauge would be a good idea, just so you know what's happening under the bonnet, as Legrath said, the stock gauge is pretty inaccurate... My stock gauge only twitches a little at full beans, i've got a lovely bonny boost gauge, but misplaced it, and can't find it :-( I too am having boost issues, so need to see a true boost reading myself!........
  8. Is 750 rpm the normal tick over speed? when mines not playin silly beggers, it's around that mark, i thought that was a bit slow?......... Cheers Oneshot, I'll bear you in mind, i didn't get chance to have a look today, arrrghh, so will be tomorrow, i think i'll start with the idle control valve, clean that up and the connections, and go from there......
  9. I've never had anything to do with the wipers mate, but it's possible that with the motor being seized, it'd could've burnt out, does the motor run now with the pieces removed?
  10. I also hear what sounds like a leak, which changes with the idle, coming from the front left, under the in/out pipes to the plenum, but could just be the bearing on a pulley, but does sound alot like a hissing sound, i removed the pipes and everything seems hunky dory, although i did change a couple of pipes, just for the sake of it.... Does anyone with this problem live near bolton? I can't drive mine as she's not MOT'd etc yet because of this!!! :-( :-( I'm 'cracking' on with it soon, so wish me luck....
  11. It's on the passenger side by the way, near prop shaft end of the box, about 2 thirds of the way up, and the plug is sometimes stashed away above the box, the lead on it is about 10 inches long..... HTH.
  12. I'll get a write up for it soon, hope it'll help people out, it was my Dad that did it (I was taking the credit :-) so I'll speak to him and sort it out... Ya can get the speed sensor out by just jacking that side of the car up, but I lifted the front and put axle stands on, it's pretty straight forward, but a little awkward to get to the one 10mm bolt, it then just pulls out, easily do-able... The end cap of the sensor comes off, and i think you can just remove the coil etc. and i think just stroking a magnet over original magnets, always in the same direction should do it, more info to follow.... HTH.... Tudor.
  13. Exactly what happens to me, so many people with the same problem, and no soloution! I'm cracking on with mine on monday, if I've any luck I'll let ya's know! :-)
  14. Have ya done a diagnostic mate?
  15. Haha, your right there mate, ain't the coolest of looks is it.... They hear ya comin, think 'ooh, look at him' then it conks out and they mock you :-)
  16. If I can't get to the bottom of it, I'll take the wires to the sensor direstly from the ECU itslef, straight to the sensor, (until I can afford a new loom) if that doesn't sort it, then I'm stumped......
  17. Thanks mate, i have read that, and tried it, all be it a bit ago, before I replaced the sensor, and exactly the same, which I guess points to the loom, i think???
  18. Guess so, never driven one before, so no comparision, but it's still rapid compared to my fiat punto, haha :-) Could it be dettonating? It certainly runs as sweet as a nut when not ticking over, I've done a full rebuild, and still needs to be run in, or perhaps the sensor itself is faulty, i know relocating the dett sensor isn't ideal, but during my massive zed learning curve, i failed to clock on to replacing the sensor with the engine out :-( Starting to get a little frustrated now, can't quite suss it out, if something breaks, i'll take it off, fix/replace and put it back on, not knowing what it is/trial and error isn't my preferred tactic really!!! :-) :-) (still love the zed to bits tho) :-)
  19. What also doesn't help is that the stock (all be it inaccurate) boost gauge isn't working, i have a gauge i bought but can't find it anywhere! It would be nice to know the bosst, perhaps determine it's in safety mode, or a boost leak maybe....
  20. Right, thanks, yeah it was a new dett sensor, and relocated it to the top of the plenum, in the usual place (the right hand one of two bolts in the middle)... That's interesting then, I'll keep the battery on, perhaps a fault on the loom? Although I thought that, so cut back into it as far as sensibly possible, and fitted a new plug n leads to it... I think the water temp sensor is ok, have cleaned the contacts, but will definately go over it again.... Where is the idle speed adjuster? Cheers....
  21. Hey peeps, this is really starting to annoy me now, so any help would be well appreciated :-) Firstly, once warmed up, the idle is a bit slow, and can stall when not using the throttle (it's an auto) I found a couple of dodgy pipes, replaced them, it was ok for a bit, and now it's doing it again, idles fast slow fast slow, etc. Could the TPS be a factor? I have tried adjusting it, but it's either the same, or 500 rpm faster, within half a millimeter of movement, that is it, is that right? And also, I have relocated the dett sensor, if i leave the battery off over night, then start her for a few minutes, then do a diagnostic, it will come up with 34, but if i do a diagnostic a few seconds later, it's 55, and will be till i disconnect the battery, then 34 again, then 55, any thoughts on this??? Thanks guys....
  22. Sorry peeps, completely wrong thread, hahahahaha......
  23. Hope it's ok mate, but that's not what I would have done! I'd have kept hoovering like a trooper till that little turd of a piece turned up! :-) An hour of hoovering and no joy? Are ya sure a piece definately fell in there?.......
  24. Are leaks easy to spot? Maybe a bit of soapy water on the joints or something along those lines?
  25. Just a thought, thinners might melt the plastic......
