  1. Swapped a 15A fuse for the correct 10A one! :x:
  2. My cone filter doesn't like getting wet - if it picks up a lot of road water from underneath or if rain gets through the vented nose panel than she doesn't like higher revs or strong boost. She almost cuts out for half a second when I cane it.
  3. It does mate but not as bad as it used to - since Jeff fixed the diode/buzzing issue. This fuse is a relatively recent issue whereas I've had the battery drain almost since time began!
  4. What the heck would cause the 10A Engine Cont fuse to keep blowing? When I replace it with a new one, it'll do 50-100 miles with no problem, then blow for no apparent reason. I can tell it's blown because the stock boost gauge suddenly sits all the way to the left and doesn't respond until I replace the fuse again (actual boost is fine, and measured correctly by my aftermarket gauge). Another symptom of the blown fuse is that the engine revs at idle drop ~50 - 100 rpm which doesn't sound much but I need to give her a bit of extra throttle to pull away otherwise it's as if she's about to stall.
  5. awesome cake! [could have done with 99-spec rear lights though :tt2: ]
  6. supposed benefit is slightly freer revving due to less weight - I've been running a JWT flywheel for about 5 years with no problems, mated to an RPS street sport clutch. I couldn't tell if it made any immediate difference because I'd had a lightweight crank pulley and a boost leak fixed at the same time! I'm not sure how well they can cope with proper racing clutches - I'm sure someone else will be able to provide more info
  7. bit late but yep I fitted the subframe in an astra estate easily (apart from the lifting part!) - the prop was disconnected
  8. I just use V-Power by default, especially with upped boost. I put £50-worth in yesterday [i.e. a thimbleful] of their new Nitro+ in, but I didn't get any nitrous :( ;)
  9. Cheers folks! Relatively shit day to be honest - I was at work and on the way home the Z threw some more gremlins at me! She's got one hell of an imagination that's for sure! :)
  10. phew, managed to get a quick shot of this while I was working on it :p
  11. 2 months on and we're none the wiser, lol! put us out of our misery!
  12. that was mainly a separate issue - I was hoping the resolution of that would reduce the drain a bit but I won't know that without measuring the voltage on a regular basis. I just wanted an idea of how far to let it drain. I might measure it one last time tomorrow morning and use it for work.
  13. FIXED! ===== A certain Mr. J. Turner at a certain Z specialist in the Midlands area identified two issues that were causing the electrical problems - one of which was a faulty diode tucked away in the engine loom somewhere [the existence of which you wouldn't know without looking at a wiring diagram], and the other was a faulty [as in partly broken possibly due to a pothole] fuse in the engine bay. Jeff's explained it to me twice and the details still escape me, but after looking at a wiring diagram it appears that a current was finding its way onto both sides of this particular buzzing relay causing the switch to flick back and forth and therefore buzz. I think the circuit was to do with the rear lights, but perhaps Jeff might want to post a bit more detail [i.e. tell me a third time!]. So a big thankyou to Jeff for quickly getting to the bottom of this and fixing it. Apparently the faulty diode could have been contributing slightly to my parasitic drain, and so I'm currently measuring that on a daily basis (without using the car) to see if the car can list a bit longer without dying. I've just started a new thread measuring the volts each day.
  14. sounds interesting...!
  15. I'm currently measuring the daily drain on an unused but alarmed Z and want to know how low I dare let the voltage drop before the car won't start properly. I'm no sparkie though I'm aware it's actually amps that crank the car, but I'm getting the following readings and at some point the volt number will be too low to start: Sun morning: 12.45v Mon morning: 12.29v Tue morning: 12.09v Wed morning: 11.98v Thu morning: 11.90v ^ these are including opening/closing central locking once per morning, leaving alarmed/immobilized and not starting/driving car
  16. Welcome to the Nut House! ^ first for a change
  17. yep Chris that's mine. I've just got back from collecting it and Jeff tells me yours was there only last week? Hope all is well with you and the Z mate :) The white one looks nice and clean  I was considering going with the Dotz wheels a while ago but went with the Cruise ones instead.
  18. Only just read this - RIP Barry and my thoughts are with your family.
  19. Fascinating write-up Jeff
  20. Many Happy Returns Alan!
