  1. wow what a transformation Chris! i didnt know you were going for a new bumper! even looks like a different colour compared to your sig pics...? are you going to set about your interior in the near future?
  2. welcome matey :duffer:
  3. great work Nick that sounds awesome!!!
  4. I ran a few checks with my shiny new multimeter (which is now covered in oily finger marks) and I'm only losing 0.16A, but the connection to the negative terminal on the battery was loose and caked with some black powdery stuff so Ive cleaned that up and tightened it up properly. i've got other problems with the motor as well as per my other thread so let's see what happens...
  5. ok £100 lighter (multimeter, oil and coolant) and 3 hours later and I'm half way through. the horn (which had stopped working as well) was a dodgy connection up front (and a missing fuse  ) so that's fixed. the battery is losing approx. 0.15-0.16A which sounds like it's a normal amount considering some of the electronics I have installed as well... mind you the negative connection to the battery was a fair bit loose and the inside of the 'hook' had a layer of black powdery stuff inside it, so a clean off with a paper towel and a good tighten up and let's see how it goes. (the current dropped 0.01A when I removed the small green IGN/Skid Control fuse from the o/s fuse box (near the windscreen) - is this expected or any idea what's on this circuit? water pipe - see below for the state of the jubilee clip after being mashed up by the pulley! i'm half-way through this job and I think I need to remove the rad cowel to be able to do up the new jubilee clip, although the screws look like they're squared off so I'll have a go with a socket set first. with regards to the last picture and the rust near the o/s suspension, is this repairable?
  6. kind of an open secret... I was reading this morning that there 'may not' be a 3rd Stig. Whether they keep Ben, use the black Stig (but someone other than Perry) or use a new Stig in new racing gear I'm not bothered, but there has to be a Stig!!!
  7. I'm close to giving up on the blue b***ard parked on the driveway :( boost pipe came loose from offside turbo 2 or 3 weeks ago - no space to work underneath so I thought I'll get either Jeff or the local mechanics to fix it when I have my sexy new exhaust installed... ...then I only order 1 gasket instead of 2 (no big deal) so the exhaust can't go on yet... ...then yesterday the battery starts playing up (as per my other thread) and sounds like there's either an extra load somewhere or the alternator's not doing a proper job... ...then on the way home today the Antilock Brake light comes on for the first time ever (other than startup, and the fluid level is ok)... ...then before I get home I decide to fill up with some petrol. pull onto the forecourt and hear a POP as if I'd driven over a drinks carton or something. think nothing else of it, but as Im waiting to pay I look over and see coolant pouring from underneath it. get her home in one piece and look under the bonnet to see that one of the jubilee clips has been sheared in half by the pulley bolt causing the silicon hose to ride up the pipe... ...while Im shaking my head at that I notice some rust starting to take hold near the offside suspension mount. Do you ever feel your Z is choosing a new owner? :death:
  8. it's a shame that the secret's out and I hope it doesn't affect the show. even though some people kinda knew it was him, I still in my mind kept the two seperate.
  9. coool! - so you could go ploughing through shop windows and stuff and blame it on the car (or Karr) :online2long: do they do the pure black Karr (just like Kitt) or the half black half grey one that they couldn't be bothered to paint...
  10. thanks for the responses. i think the alternator is fine otherwise the car would have packed in months ago. i understand that some electronics in the car, even stock ones like clock, ECU, radio, take a small charge from the battery, and that its only really old cars that would have zero drain due to having no electronics whatsoever. I was going to try what you suggested Daz and see if I can isolate the drain by removing fuses with an ammeter attached.
  11. i've had problems with battery drain for ages, and been through about 3 batteries in almost as many years. as long as I run the Z at least once in a 5-day span then it charges up enough (e.g. to and from work) and isn't a problem, but after standing only 3 days unused, it only just started this morning, and worryingly, struggled a little bit to start this evening when leaving work. the voltage reading (usually 14+ when charging and 13.8 when idling) only reached 13.8 when driving, and sat at 13.3 when idling. the battery is approx. 6 months old and is a good make. ...so I'm going to buy a multimeter from halfrauds and set about molesting the fuse boxes. my main question though is, what would be the 'normal' battery drain for a Z that has several parasitic units, eg. boost controller, alarm/immob., head unit, Power Meter / RSM / any other fancy unit made by Blitz/Apexi, etc...
  12. i give mine about 10 minutes before going full blast - albeit im always a little over-cautious with things. the important thing is the oil has heated up and thinned out, not the water temp, although that is a good 'step 1' indication. :) in terms of cool-down, I have a turbo timer but only have it set to 10 seconds. the last 5 minutes of driving i dont come on boost. just as good
  13. mate that's the dog's danglies!! ive always been a big fan of KR and I can't fault that at all :D love the twin screens playing clips from the show  ^ good question by Stu - do you have some kind of 'concourse' competition to see who's is the closest. shame about the front number plates but yours is really well tucked away!
  14. keep it up Nick you're making great progress!!
  15. Happy Birthday! I'm sure we have about 10 Baz's on here so Happy Birthday to all of you! :duffer:
  16. hmm, i'd say 6. it's the BH weekend, I discovered yesterday that I may not be being made redundant from my job, but I only ordered one gasket for my sexy downpipes when I should have ordered two!
  17. Spotted you this afternoon - not seen that one before!
  18. Full movies - look like they're mainly B-movie, Bollywood, documentaries etc. but I'm sure there's something here for everyone! http://www.youtube.com/movies
  19. i hope he's done a proper job and sprayed the inside of the petrol tank!
  20. too much! :( that 'New Posts' link keeps winking at me!
  21. R.I.P. Dudley :( (unless you can think of a better name)
  22. thanks Lymon - i didnt think to look on their website :o :o cool at least i know theyre split now (and ive just saved myself about $200 going with these AMS/SZ ones)
  23. good on ya mate - if there are some people left who can go out of their way for such a little thing then maybe there's hope left in the world! :) we get plenty of sparrows in our garden but ive never seen a tiger-stripe one like that before.
  24. ok the chap has got back to me and said that the AMS ones are split design as well - I searched the internets and all the pics I could find were a 'single' design like stock, albeit I couldn't find any 300zx ones :o I'll give these a try and see how they are.
