Loophole in insuring a car with NOS???
Whilst stuffing my face at Pizzahut this evening I was speaking to a mate about NOS. I was mentioning that it is all very well but try and gte anyone to touch you if you declare you have Nitrous fitted. He went on to tell me how he had heard you can get away with it without incurring any extra cost on your premium. Apparently you declare it but tell them you only use it for track use. This way the insurance company will not load your premium as thye are not lible to pay out on track related damage anyway. Obviously if you had a smash you would wanna unplug the system to cover your arse if an inspector did have a look at it. I think this seems a bit to good to be true myself but what do you guys think? Oh No! Tyres again
I'll big up Falkens also, I had em on both my cars, one being a 250 bhp MR2 turbo and anyone who knows these beasts will know how much they eat the rears. The Falkens stuck like shit to a blanket and gave me well over 10,000 miles on the rears. Most brands are lucky to see 6,000! Buy some and spend the saving on some beer tokens! Justin:)

What could go wrong with my car?
Cheers Mike, Lets hope a service is all it will need. I heard that the coolant should be flushed also as it can go stale and can really mess up the engine. Anyone heard the same?

What could go wrong with my car?
Hi Stu, I knew the tyres are harder and not so grippy but thought thye were still legal in this country. What else could go wrong with the car after this long standing? Justin?

What could go wrong with my car?
Sorry, hit return by accident and posted the above! Anyway, back to it. I am having my TT Zed impoted buy one of the more well known agents out there and have had all kinds of problems with the shipping. Not going on the boat it should have not once but twice has resulted in my car being left parked by the dockside, no doubt packed in with other cars like sardines. By the time it gets here (it left Japan a couple of days ago) it would have been sitting about for 6 months or more! So I know what I might expect, would anyone have any ideas to what sort of damage this could do to a high performance car like the Zed? Many thanks, Justin

Hi all, I am in need of some advice from the more technically minded lot out there.

Front Speakers
LOL, Sorry Nige but totaly disagree, YOur soundstage is compromised completely using 6x9s somewhere like a door. The tweeters are in the wrong place. Speakers should always, in an ideal world be set at ear hight, especially the tweeters. You think about a home cinema set up. The front floorstanders are always about the same hight as a seated person to optimise the soundstage. Mind you, I have never heard a set of 6x9's in doors so might be completely wrong but I am just using audiophile logic. I just don't see how a pair of 6x9's could hold a light to something like my £300 6.5" JL Audio VR components. As I said though I would be interested in hearing the 6x9's in that position, maybe I could have saved myslef some money and bought some of those instead! Cheers, Justin:)

Front Speakers
I agree with Chris, I have some JL VR compnents and they sound the best. IMHO 6x9's are ok if you want something to go into the rear parcel shelf and dont want a sub but otherwise don't bother. Tweeters should always be at ear hight and if they are stuck on top of a 6x9 only your feet will enjoy the sound to its maximum potential. I might have a set of brand new Phoenix Gold 6.5"components going in a couple of weeks if you are interested. Cheers, Justin

Any one know any good importers?
Hi All, I am importing my Zed through Bonsaicars. Its a 1990 TT manual with nice big 18's and an HKS can on it. Its grade 4 which for a car of this age is very good and has only done 44000 miles. The total price will be around the 5 garnd mark which to me seems expensive but maybe this is because it is a top notch car (I hope)! So far the service has been OK. A little lacking in the communication department but until I have got the car and been through the whole process I do not really know how to rate them. The best thing about Bonsaicars is they let you have access to all the Jap auction servers so you can browse up to 100,000 cars a week. All this means you can choose the car yourself rather than telling someone roughly what you are looking for and letting them do the rest and leaving you in the dark a bit more about what your are getting. Another importer that I considered was a company called Autoadvan. They seem to flog a lot of cars through Ebay but are happy to source you any car you want. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck, Justin:)

Insurance
Stuart, Yes, Yes and Yes. And the best thing is they don't seem to be worried about minor mods such as Alloys, exhaust and filter etc. As long as you have a another car you use daily then you can take out one of there classic policies. They do 1500, 3000 and 5000 mile limits. Justin:)

Insurance
Seeing you ask Stu I will dig it out for you:) http://www.houghtoninsurance.co.uk/ Tel: 01582 867763 I have tried most of the companys reccomended on here and found them the best. Carole Nash was also good untill I was told they no longer insure Imports:confused: Justin

Valuations?
Viijay, Are you a member of the AA or RAC? I'm sure they would have a car valuation service. They do just about everything else. I should think you could find out something about it on there websites. Justin:)

Insurance
Forget the rest if you have another car for getting from A to B. Speak to Houghton insurance about there classic policy, think they are on the web. And if you don't have another car then the saving you make will all but buy ya one!:D Good luck, Justin

Cheap ICE
Thanks Viijay, I know someone who would probably be able to do that for me. I would imagine they would have to declare it at the airport though. Justin
-
Cheap ICE
Thanks Bob, I'm sure I could get someone to get it as a gift. And it would certainley save a few more pennies. Anyone know if car audio bought in the states is compatible with cars in the UK? I guess it would be as it is not like different voltages such as home electronics. Cheers, Justin

Cheap ICE
I am just wondering if anyone has had expericence in buying CD players, Amps etc from the US. I have been looking at a wensite over there and the prices seem silly. They have an amp on it that I bought a few years back in a shop locally for £460 and they have it on special offer at £160! Does anyone have any idea if I would have to apy duty if I got a friend to bring it into the UK with them as it would be a gift. I know if I was to do it mail order from the company over there then I would need to pay duty on it. Any idea what percentage this is? Many thanks, Justin:)

Leather interior
Hi, I am soon to take delivery of my first Zed but have horrid tweed interior in it. I would much prefer leather but at the time the best cars all had tweed. Anyone have any idea on how much a retrim in leather is gonna cost me and if not then any leather interiors up for grabs anywhere? Many thanks, Justin
