New SORN rules?
Agree....Just make sure it's definately booked into the MOT Station and not just going to Zedworld for work prior! (I 'm not sure Zedworld do the MOT but another garage?) ...If you're plate is viewed by the autopnc in a police vehicle you will be pulled ;=)

New SORN rules?
Not read the legislation, but not sure that this is the case?? I think you can drive a car without tax and the offence would be a civil one, not a criminal one. i.e. if you drive without an MOT then you are uninsured, hence a criminal offence. If you drive without Tax and are caught, then the offence is civil, and your fined for non payment of Duty. If you tax it then you'll only get a refund on the unused portion i.e. 5 months. so if you tax it today, even if you SORN it next week, you'll get nothing back for this month! Why would you tax it to sell it if you're going to to get a refund? If i were you i'd just add £100 for the tax and negotiate with any new buyer?

Tyre prices....
Unfortunatly everything is delivered by road in the UK and as soon as Fuel Duty is hiked, so is the cost of fuel and all goods as companies can't run at a loss!....This is happening with everything if you look more closely. Like you say, it's not teh amount, but the % increase!

bt or sky for broadband ???
No point in switching for better speed as it's the same Kit in the exchange, like electric and Gas the supplier is ultimately the same, just a matter of who manages your account and sends you the bill! unless you go for cable connection i'd only swap based on cost and length of contract!

The Best empty road in Wales?
If you want a decent drive then the A483 from Newtown to Llanfair-Ym-Mualt and then the B483 to Brecon is lovely on a sunny day (take the camera)...Bit wet and windy this time of year though!

belt squealing
Try a squirt of 'Belt slip' from a decent motor factors. Much like a can of carpet glue spray, it adds sticky film to the surface of the belt to cure this..

Is this advisable?
Too right! Last Z specialist that did this job to get at my oil cooler did exactly that allthough i could never prove it! After the shambles they gave my rebuild back in, i now know it was them who forked my Turbo and cost me a re-build!

insurance agreed value
I'm sure Admiral gave me laid up cover a couple of winters back and is why i went back to them earlier this year so try them? I thought most insurers did it, but maybe only after you're covered on a normal policy? AOtherwise they get little money and you know what greedy bar stewards they are! Been meaning to amend mine as it's been SORN since October but forgot to do this so will call them this week and let you know how i get on...

Hmmm new car dilemma
My daily driver up until last year was an 02 GT TDI Golf and it was a real hot hatch! Buy anything with the VAG TDI 1.9 130 in it and you won't go wrong for performance (better than a GTI) and economy with low insurance...(Audi A3/Golf/Bora/Seat Leon) If you want performance buy the 130 6 speed and chip it...Economy beyond belief and stronger gearboxes than the 150bhp TDI's.

Whats your views on this 'Ferrari'?

I've been run over
mrs is a prosecutor and i've just mentioned this sitting on the sofa....She would be prosecuted for failing to stop, failing to report an accident and driving without due care. Possible assault depending on your level of injury. Make a complaint to the chief constable ASAP! For a minor offence she might not be prosecuted, but only if she were to surrender her licence. However, this is a serious incident and given the fact you were knocked over, over the car and knocked unconcious is a highly serious incident. YOu need to get witness details and pursue this. I hardly think she's important driving a mini, so get it sorted!

Nexen 8000 tyres v Falken 452
I've had Nexens for about 5 years now and i swear by them. For me they wear better than some of the brands i've had...I had two more on the rear last month and I need two more on the front this week as i've got a nail in one and they're getting low so i'll be ordering them specifically!

Have a look in the FAQ area for 'Curing erratic idle'...Grover has a decent PDF posted of which the first couple of parts is worth doing after you've cleaned connectors!

japfest
Still in Aus boys, but missing the Z like mad! Holden SV6's and Ford Falcon XR6's are OK for a couple of days here, but when i see a Z i'm like a cat on a hot tin roof to get to chat to the owner! I should be back in time for this, though my MOT might not get done in time as she's been on blocks at my sisters for nearly a year, so might be looking for a Lift!! Anthony....You going in the single turbo and can i come for a spin??!!! Will be back by Via the US for a couple of weeks (LA to New York via Detroit, fingers crossed) so if you need anything let me know as i'm hopefully grabbing a new loom en-route!! Looking forward to catching up with teh Welsh contingent!

Central Heating Pipework
Not a plumber but swapped out all the rads and fitted new coper in my rental before i left the UK...As far as i know 15mm is standard for running to the rads. 22mm pipes are only really used to feed hot water to a tank and back to a boiler to increase flow. You might find 22mm where a condenser has been swapped in (where a tank was before?) which might have been 'fed' by a back boiler from a fire or range. putting in 22mm will get the heat around the system faster, but you'll lose heat through the extra bore! Hope this helps!

G'day all
Hi Mate, an old thread i know, but i'm heading down under in October/Nov (currently in India and nest to Nepal and S/E Asia) and wondering what the equivalent 'Autotrader' site might be? Probably going to have to go down the Van/camper/4x4 route, but wouldn't mind keeping my Eye on the Z market for buying when we arrive. Plan is to put some CV's out in Sydney and then fly to Cairns (possibly Darwin) and spend a few months driving back down the East Coast... Not sure if my subs have expired so drop me a reply to djmisstear@hotmail.com or post here if you can if you get a spare 5!
