  1. Stillen quote re rad The 17% uprating for Europe may or may not be correct. Or maybe its all in the matrix density and it otherwise looks the same. Maybe also that Import ones were never intended to cruise at over 112mph hence the apparently smaller cooling, smaller oil cooler and no diff oil cooler.
  2. I think you need to strip off the door card and check the guide pin and runner. The pin should keep the window tight to the door frame and if the glass is loose or out of adjustment it can rise too far catching the targa top, then you slam the door and the guide pin snaps or the window breaks. The guide rail could also be loose here. It doesnt look like the seal on the targa is at fault here. Is the glass wobbly? if so the pin is already broken. It breaks just inside the glass leaving the black dome head still in the glass and the other bit flopping around in the guide rail. If that is what it is it is not a hard thing to fix if you can get a replacement guide pin.
  3. Take it you checked the obvious like fluid level? Was the dipstick part way thrown out? Does the oil smell burnt or look brown?
  4. They're not - the UK one has 25% more cooling surface.
  5. Mines just been out. I had a siezed drivers side one, I guess not a surprise after 140k miles on original tubs. Not cheap either!
  6. Greg I think you've got it. I found the gauge sensor and there was no vacuum at it with the engine running. I swopped tubes with the other one that does go to the balance pipe and low and behold gauge works and engine idles fine. It worries me that there doesnt seem to be any suction on the other egr? hose - does egr only work when there's positive pressure ot some other condition? The mechanic marked tube ends with coloured paint but he must have swapped it at the other end.
  7. Just got it back after and engine out job to replace the turbos after the driver side one siezed. Seems to have the power back but the boost gauge no longer works it just goes to the middle when switched on and the engine is also hunting at tickover. If I detach the vacuum pipe that goes from the balance pipe to the gubbins on the firewall beside the brake servo and put a finger over the balance pipe connection on the plenum it ticks over and runs beautifully. Its as if its got an air leak but it hasnt. If I blow up that small hose to the gubbins where I suspect the boost guage sensor also is I get no air leaks. If I suck when the engine is running the engine suddenly runs rough again just like when its connected. It seems the vacuum at idle is affecting some control system that is causing the rough running. PCV maybe? and the non working boost guage - is there a connection? Has the mechanic connected these small vacuum hoses up wrongly or is something else going on here? All ideas gratefully considered.
  8. A bit pointless really because to make the ice cold air the unit pumps the heat extracted to the condenser in front of the radiator where it adds to engine bay heat. It is only fit to cool the cars innards for comfort not for the amount of air an engine can drink.

  10. Have you checked that its not hanging off? I kid you not. They are known for the bolt and nut to come loose. Mine had actually cracked the flange as well.
  11. The 4 way switch contacts can be burned too. I had to strip mine and clean them as it would tilt back but not come forward again.
  12. on most the tx cooler is pipes inside the water jacket of the main radiator. The very small cooler can be for the power steering and Hicas fluid
  13. I found the connector for my near side passenger side one was green oxided up and responsible for that one showing dead. I had no smoke problems though. Cleaned the pins and sockets on the connector and it was right as rain again! Connectors are a major source of glitches on these hot running and ageing cars!
  14. The only other thing i can think of with a 260bhp 4.6 V8 is a mustang cause the ZT V8 used the mustang engine Bantambunny got it first Was gona say relax its nearly a Rover but that would have given it away. It drives a bit like a zed in terms of torque and suspension stiffness, have to say sounds even better, not as quick but comfy quiet and quite low key. Better on fuel too.

  16. Its got Eibach compound rate springs, Bilstein shocks, a tremec 5 speed manual, Dana Hydratrak LSD, 330mm front discs and bigger AP racing rears. The motor is 4.6l V8 with only 260BHP and more than 300ftlbs torque. A lovely lazy growler plus sat nav, telly xenons, traction control by Racelogic and various other toys.
  17. Just imagine sitting in traffic on your way to work and hearing this. Many Sydney folk DID hear this on the FOX FM morning show in Sydney.... .... The DJs Play a game where they award winners great prizes. The game is called Mate Match". The DJs call someone at work and ask if they are married or seriously involved with someone. If the contestant answers "yes", he or she is then asked 3 random yet highly personal questions. The person is also asked to divulge the name of their partner (with phone number) for verification. If their partner answers those same three questions correctly, they both win a prize. One particular game, however, made Sydney drop to its knees with laughter and is possibly the funniest thing I've heard yet. Anyway, here's how it all went down: DJ: "Hey! This is ED on Fox FM. Have you ever heard of 'Mate Match'?" Contestant: (laughing) "Yes, I have" DJ: "Great! Then you know we're giving away a trip to the Gold Coast if you win. What is your name? First name only please". Contestant: "Brian" DJ: "Brian, are you married or what? Brian: "Yes". DJ: "Yes? Does that mean you're married or you're what?" Brian: (laughing nervously) "Yes, I am married" DJ: "Thank you. Now, what is your wife's name? First name only please Brian: "Sara" DJ: "Is Sara at work Brian?" Brian: "She's gonna kill me" DJ: "Stay with me here Brian! Is she at work?" Brian: (laughing) "Yes, she's at work" DJ: "OK, first question - when was the last time you had sex?" Brian: "She's gonna kill me" DJ: "Brian, stay with me here!" Brian: "About 8 o'clock this morning" DJ: "Atta boy Brian" Brian: (laughing sheepishly): "Well...." DJ: "Question #2 - How long did it last?" Brian: "About 10 minutes" DJ: "Wow! You really want that trip, huh? No one would ever have said that if a trip wasn't at stake" Brian: "Yeah, that trip sure would be nice" DJ: "OK. Final question. Where did you have sex at 8 o'clock this morning?" Brian: (laughing hard) "I, ummm, I, well...." DJ: "This sounds good Brian. Where was it at?" Brian: "Not that it was all that great, but her mom is staying with us for a couple of weeks..." DJ: "Uh huh" Brian: "And the mother in law was in the shower at the time" DJ: "Atta boy Brian" Brian: "On the kitchen table" DJ: "Not that great? That is more adventure than the previous hundred times I've done it. Okay folks, I will put Brian on hold, get his wife's work number and call her up. You listen to this" (3 minutes of commercials follow) DJ: "OK audience, let's call Sara, shall we?" (touch tones...ringing....) Clerk: "Kinkos" DJ: "Hey is Sara around there somewhere?" Clerk: "This is she" DJ: "Sara, this is Ed with Fox FM. We are live on the air right now and I've been talking to Brian for a couple of hours now" Sara: (laughing) "A couple of hours?" DJ: "Well, a while now. He is on the line with us. Brian knows not to give any answers away or you'll lose. Soooooo, do you know the rules of 'Mate Match'?" Sara: "No" DJ: "Good!" Brian: (laughing) Sara: (laughing) "Brian, what the hell are you up to?" Brian: (laughing) "Just answer his questions honestly, OK? Be completely honest" DJ: "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sure. Now, I will ask you 3 questions Sara. If your answers match Brian's answers, then the both of you will be off to the Gold Coast for 5 days on us" Sara: (laughing) "yes" DJ: "Alright. When did you last have sex Sara?" Sara: "Oh God, Brian...uh, this morning before Brian went to work" DJ: "What time?" Sara: "Around 8 this morning" DJ: "Very good. Next question. How long did it last?" Sara: "12, 15 minutes maybe" DJ: "Hmmm, that's close enough. I'm sure she is trying to protect his manhood. We've got one last question Sarah. You are one question away from a trip to the Gold Coast. Are you ready?" Sara: (laughing) "Yes" DJ: "Where did you have it?" Sara: "OH MY GOD BRIAN!! You didn't tell them that did you?" Brian: "Just tell them honey" DJ: "What is bothering you so much Sara?" Sara: "well....." DJ: "Come on Sara...where did you have it?" Sara: "Up the arse..."
  18. You only get the clunk if you dont tighten up the big bolts thru the bushes properly. The centre part then clunks against the bolt on braking
  19. UK and imports have different rear shocks. The import versions are really cheap for the stock ones. UK version has an actuator that bolts on the top of it that switches it from normal to hard. When you have duff rears, usually one side first, you find yourself avoiding manhole covers as they seem to make the back end skip sideways.
  20. check the plenum bolts for tightness in case one or more have pulled threads making it loose on the gasket to the manifold joint. Saw this on mates.
  21. There is a manual for the aircon - its huge - but you can get the aircon into diagnostic mode and it should tell you what is wrong. Maybe you should try that I take it the obvious like the compressor is running etc and the aircon condenser in front of the water radiator is getting hot when aircon is on auto? You can also see the fluid flowing in the sight glass round by the battery
  22. Hope you are not having the same problem as me. I think my OS turbo has siezed. That shows as 0 boost. Possibly your problem is MAF related and the engine is defaulting to "get home" mode where it limits to something like 2300 rpm. In that case you would never develop boost. Check the connector to the MAF.
  23. also check out the connector - I had a dead one until the connector pins got a scraping of the green oxide.
  24. Stripped off some of the boost pipes and proved there are no boost leaks such as burst intercooler or pipes. The drivers side turbo is doing zilch. If I blip the throttles with the pipe off that side it seems to actually suck a little when it should blow. I cant see anything wrong with the waste gate linkage. So looks like a seized turbo. Tried passing a listening tube down the pipe but could only hear what might be the turbo tuning slowly and making unhealthy noises. Next action is to consider engine out or take just this turbo off the car with engine in situ. Engine still sounds sweet and drives well but not tunnel vision fast. When I do try to accelerate fast the exhaust side of the suspect turbo gets very hot and seems to smell shall we say hot. I guess its gona be off the road a while till this challenge is taken. cbr, which side went on yours?
