  1. Yeah thought about the BFG, or even a Yank who has PCS'd in from Lakenheath or something. The pictures show it as UK plates and tax etc, on a trailer being pulled by another UK motor. Going to give the bloke a call tomorrow methinks. Cheers for all the input.
  2. Cheers for the reply, but I saw too late to edit that I had worded my question wrong. I was thinking of picking it up to see me through the summer while the slickie is off the road for rebuild and paint. I'm not worried about the engine (I run a maintenance facility for Lockheed Martin), I will either fix it, or get one out a breaker. What I meant to ask was more about the general history of the car, is it maybe stolen etc, maybe it belonged to a prior owner on the site? A UK reg car in this area is rare enough to wonder why a German guy is selling it. Of course, if I go to see it, I will be giving it a good going over, but just wanted to arm myself with any info on it if poss, before I tackled a chat with the bloke selling it.
  3. Its up for sale with "Cylinder Head Damage" - dunno if they mean just gaskets gone, or belt broke etc. Its currently in Germany not too far from me, just wanted to know if anyone here knows anything about it before I answer the advert. Cheers.
  4. Same down this end, only know 2 - mine and an American bloke who imported from the US. Those plus your 2 must make us the smallest region of the club members wise!
  5. How are you calculating your MPG figures? Are you relying on an on board reading, or working it out manually? If its the computer, have you checked the figures yourself?
  6. Slam panel looks nasty IMHO. Maybe painted it would look ok? As it is, it distracts from that lovely motor........
  7. I used the various Comodo products with XP, up until I got the Win7 beta - (back then Comodo didn't do Win7 yet) and was happy with them. Started using MS Security Essentials, didn't feel the need to go back, might try Comodo out again. Worth the switch?

  9. No need to be paying for AV these days, plent of good options out there for free. Norton is the biggest malware peddler out there IMHO. Try uninstalling it - Unless they have changed recently, you can't, without downloading their uninstall tool from their site. Theres been some good recommendations on this thread for alternatives once your subscription is out.......
  10. http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/ Free, good integration, works well, no constantly annoying b0ll0cks alerts. No complaints, been using it for a while.
  11. + a water trap to keep the air dry
  12. Have you tried a boot with a composite or steel shank? Or the good old Dr. Martens Airwair?
  13. Whip the steering rack out?

Oi! - Ya mean Scottish whisky.......whiskey is Irish! :tongue_smilie:
  15. Not being rude, but any particular reason you need to? If its compatibility, Win 7 has "compatibility mode" for older stuff. Try this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/8057-dual-boot-installation-windows-7-xp.html
  16. I figured I would search before I started a new thread. Do you know what Yowser came up with for the switch? Spoiler is long gone, and I really want to loose the wiper too, but I know the switch sitting there not doing anything would bug me. I'm not concerned about MOT - I ditched the island a long time ago - and I know it's no issue over here to remove it. It's just the switch thing......... Cheers.
  17. Ross Kemp in Afghanistan for an opener.........?
  18. That looks too clean to be a shed. That isn't too bad as a 2nd motor for bumbling about town. For the Mrs, obviously.......
  19. I know this is an old thread, but what was your plan? Did it work? I'm debating if I should remove it or not. I was considering leaving the washer jet on, to be able to blast off the road spray etc on the autobahn when its wet, dunno if that would look retarded? I was considering using the wiper switch to turn on/off a reversing camera. Opinions please!
  20. Sounds like a plan.
  21. Thats what I was thinking - it's easier to put it on all the panels at production, even if it's unused on some models, then not use it if not required. I'm just going to seal her up now - Cheers all for your input.
  22. I know you have repaired it now, but if you do try to weld it in the future, and if you have the choice, try using 1/16" (1.6mm) 7014 rods. Start on your lowest setting, and step up, until it penetrates properly. Make sure you keep your earth clamp as close to your weld as poss to reduce resistance - that will keep the voltage and power down, so in theory, less heat at the electrode. Don't try running a seam, stitch it, covering about 1-2 electrodes width at a time, about 2 seconds apart, or just enough time to let the glow die off. Don't wait too long, or you will end up with a run of cold welds on top of each other. If it is blowing holes, try holding/clamping a heat sink next to your weld - a big fat brass padlock or similar is ideal. That will help with limiting any distortion.
  23. Don't waste your time trying to use the stick welder. It won't be worth it, in terms of time, and the potential to make a mess of it. To be fair, if you've not done a bit of welding before, you will maybe struggle with a MIG too, unless you can get the power right down - the inner panels are thin to start with, and it's easy to blow holes in the sheet until you get the feel of it. To be honest a TIG would be ideal - needs a little bit more co-ordination, but more forgiving on the job. I would take the advice from groover as a stop gap. Although you think you might get away with a stick welder because it is a small repair, its quite likely that the wee hole you see is worse behind there, and you are going to need to cut out and plate a fair sized section to do the job properly. Not something you want to attempt with a stick unless you are willing to take the chance of it all going wrong. Why not speak to your local garage and ask them what they would take to weld it if you done all the prep work?
  24. Ok so I am crap at inserting pictures. Here is a link http://www.flickr.com/photos/59325118@N05/5438890432/
