Charging a battery
Its not really all about it been unsafe, just not the best way to do it, also and this is more important from a safety point of view, is having an insecure battery in the cabin or boot is a no, no, gassing , open terminals and in the event of an accident a potential hazard from acid splashing, electrical shorting ( fire) and a bloody heavy missile. Sorry mate not trying to disrespect your idea, it would work in the short term, but safety has oddly become a major factor in my life of recent years, something about getting older I expect, can not remember been so safety concious in my 20`s. Jeff TT

Charging a battery
Here you are Vijay this is exactly what you want. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12V-SELF-SWITCHING-SPLIT-CHARGER,-CHARGE-SECOND-BATTERY_W0QQitemZ110334704131QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090107?IMSfp=TL090107131001r24468 The relay method you mentioned is not really suitable for electronic sensing as the zed alternator is. Charging a battery
Your require a charge splitter like when you have a caravan, reason is the alternator output is regulated by the battery charge level, and the vehicle power use, if for instance you were driving using next to no electrical power and the car battery was fully charged the second battery plugged into the cigerette socket would cause the alternator output to rise which is great for the flat battery but not so for the fully charged car battery. To be fair it is a bit more complicated than that but in simple terms what you have suggested without a charge splitter will interfere with the charging systems. Get along to your local caravan parts supplier they will have what you need. Jeff TT

bizzarr cooling-gets colder when boosting up
Assuming the single spade temp sensor connection is ok as you say then there is a possibility the stat is stuck open, contary to what most peeps think the stat opens and closes constantly to regulate the temperature, also if this is the case, potentially the temp can drop low enough to cut the boost level back until the temp rises again. But from experience the most cause is the temp sensor connection so really check this again. Jeff TT

- exchange engine v complete rebuild ?
In between the word remember and the word all. Jeff TT- exchange engine v complete rebuild ?
What? ......... based on that comment everyone who has a perfectly running zed who has not rebuilt their engine needs to have a rebuild now:confused: Jeff TT- Starter motor g/box thread drama
Hi Marty, This is a very common issue and have dealt with it many times, most times caused by the wrong bolt been fitted and then overtightened and as alloy is soft pulls the thread out, or the bolt not tightened up enough so the starter rattles the bolt about. Depending on the exact level of damage there are different ways to repair the thread, in your case get a larger bolt of same length and match this to a tap of the correct size, been soft you will easily re-thread the hole after drilling it out slightly to get the hole round again. As far as the repair been strong enough, when you have repaired the thread and refitting the bolt and nut fixing use thread lock to prevent any chance of the fixings coming undone from vibration and all will be ok. Minimum spec is Dexron ll same as power steering fluid Jeff TT- Electric passenger seat switch
Ah yes, the post above was refering to the UK seats with optional heating. Jeff TT- heater stopped working
Check the water level in your rad, if a little low the heater matrix is the first to stop working, if the level is ok check for air locks, run the engine with rad cap off and heater on temp 40deg and add water as required. Check for circulation by getting you hand down the rear of the engine and feel the heater matrix pipes to be sure both are hot. If still not working then you may have to try flushing the matrix by disconecting both matrix pipes and flushing through in both diections with a hose pipe. Jeff TT- Electric passenger seat switch
The drivers seat are 8x way adjustable and the passenger only 4x adjustableway so the loom/ connectors are different but it can be fitted and the loom / connector adapted quite easily. Jeff TT- Engine loom
It is trapped by a bracket/plate behind the air con fan/ evaporator, most guys remove it all but it means regassing after and the assembly is a ball-ache to remove anyway. undo as much of the assembly without undoing the actual aircon pipes. With a bit awriggle and shake it is do-able to get the plate undone. Good luck Jeff TT- Lumpy Idle Problem / Missing etc
The afm works on a hot wire system, there is a fine wire sensor that is heated by a stablised set voltage this draws a set amount of current for a given amount of air been drawn passed it, as the air been drawn past the sensor cools it down it alters the amount of current the fine wire draws from the circuit, this is how the calculation is made for fuel / air ratio. By placing your hand over the end of the maf, the amount of air is reduced so the fine wire starts drawing more current, the signal now tells the ecu less air is been drawn in so it fuels accordingly BUT it also knows the throttle is closed because of the tps position, so to prevent stalling the timing will advance slightly and the aux air will open slightly. The increased stability of the engine is then just a consequence of attempting to fool the system, it does not represent any cure or any hint of why any particular engine is unhappy at idle because the moment the idle speed is raised by the ecu you have moved out of the problem zone ( rough idle ) Most idle problems are connected to air leaks, poor sensor connections, poor throttle balance, poor base idle set up, faulty aux air valves, faulty afm`s and timing issues all of which can be sorted very , very quicky with a ConZult. Hope that helps Jeff TT- Anyone managed to Sell thier Z ?
Stange how when "we" are buyers we all become hard face experts who have no time for sellers who dream of selling their beloved car for lots of cash, but once "we" are sellers we become specialist car traders with a "thats the price and not a penny less attitude Admit we all do it......but on the other hand the 300zx and other cars like it do not have an average price any more. Each zed needs valuing on its own merits, condition, service history, MOT, aftermarket bits with the last one often reducing the price!! Recent months from our experience at work is they are still selling but in the main via traders/ garages as most new owners want some form of warranty. As a guide I know of maybe four zeds sold over the past 3 months or so from varied dealers and all were 4k to 5k for H and J reg cars which in these times is strong cash for a standard car. Jeff TT- Im past the word annoyed
A very good example of why in many cases there is not a particular cure for a running issue because there are so many variables and at the same time similarities between faults, symptoms and the fix. just all part of lifes royal tapestry of zed life:D Jeff TT- a pcv question
No! totally free, they are spare parts we have loads of so if it helps you out thats fine by me, ask others here its just my way. Jeff TT- a pcv question
