  1. Cheers guys:) Even if he will do it for free, I think I'll say no. if the bodywork is fine what's the point?
  2. Hi all My Zed is going into the body shop soon to have the small rust bit on the rear o/s wheel arch sorted. The garage chappie thinks I should have the whole car machine polished afterwards to renovate the paintwork, but I'm not too sure about this. I've heard bad things about the mop scraping or burning paintwork etc He has only seen the car when dirty, when I polished it with red Colour Magic followed by Super Resin Auto Glym it looked perfect. No flat bits or fading etc. Now it looks good after a simple wash and leather. Should I have this machine polish or do you think it would do more harm to the paintwork long term, like strip the protective laquer etc? Opinions would be appreciated
  3. Nice one Gio!!!:D If I'd known you were putting them on a Fiat I'd have charged you an extra £25:D Heh Heh Anyway, the refurb people did a nice job there. How's your Zed coming on? Richard:)
  4. The Uk one sounds good, its also a later model (probably a series 2) so some of the afflictions of the series one would have been sorted. Cheaper insurance too, so it will leave you more cash to fix those dings. Could the £250 price difference could be gotten rid of with a little haggling?;) The import may have 72000kms but do you know if it's accurate? I'd probably go for the UK car (leather FNSH etc) providing there's no rust problems. Get an inspection done though, or take someone along who knows Zeds and invest in a good warranty. These are expensive cars to fix. Good luck Richard
  5. Scuuuuum!:D Hope the little fecker falls of his (or her since girls are just as bad today! ) bike and breaks a limb. With a damaged hand they won't be able to nick bits of cas for a while:D
  6. I think TonyC's theory is probably nearer the truth, but no government in Europe doing something so stupid? Doesn't road tax in Ireland run into hundreds for some cars? Anyway to make matters worse than a couple of hundred pounds extra road tax I heard something on Virgin Radio today about our dear pal Gordon thinking of slapping capital gains tax on profits made on regular house sales, the bas***d! Still probably won't happen though (I hope)
  7. Time to get rid of this bunch of tw*ts I think. We pay enough tax on petrol and everyone knows big engines guzzle more fuel:mad: When you work out what taxes we pay in total it's infuriating to think we will still be asked to cough up more. Honestly i no longer think I'm paying to contribute to the running of the country but more like I'm buying a substantial part of it. Maybe I should run for government myself........;) I can't do any worse?
  8. Go on, you know you want to:D Get a TT 300, don't dismiss the auto either from 50-100 it will still outpace a scoob:D Richard

Hi Steve I've heard mixed opinions from people who have fitted them but every tuning company or brake specialist I spoke to said avoid the drilled/grooved combi and stick with just grooved discs for the Zed. I think it's because drilled discs are more prone to cracking and warping on such a heavy car. They are better for braking though, hence used for trackdays or when frequent replacement is not a problem:D 3g (link from my earlier post) do a set of 20 grooved discs for about £160 and Mintex pads for £60 - quite reasonable compared to some companies.....:) Richard

Hi Steve I would say it is most likely warped discs. The stock discs are prone to warping if they have been subjected to several bouts of heavy braking from high speed. If you need to replace them take a look at http://www.3gbrakes.co.uk They do a good replacement set-up for far less cash than stock items. Richard
  11. Thanks I'll order the whole lot then:)
  12. I know there are probably thousands of posts on this subject but I'm lazy;) So, it's probably about time I changed them (66k miles). Before I go and order everything I've one question: I understand why the valves need replacing but what's the deal with the hoses. Forgive my ignorance, but aren't they just hoses? Courtesy list the valves as service replacement items but do not mention hoses, hence my confusion:confused: Thanx
  13. If you really don't mind driving an auto then it doesn't matter which one you buy. I've driven both versions of the Zed and TBH there was little to chose in the performance department. I'm not into 0-60 times as that is no real indication of how useable the performance is. In fast A or B road driving (most of my motoring) overtaking speed is far more relevant. Both versions are seriously quick compared to the majority so-called performance cars. I chose an auto simply because the best all round Zed i saw happened to be auto and I'm happy with that choice. It has outpaced a manual 3000GTO twin turbo 0-60 and a porsche 928 in the 50-100+ to name but a few. Be warned, the speed can become addictive...........! Drive a few cars and take your pick:) One thing all forum members will agree on, the zed is a truly great car:D

As far as I know, the Kosei Snipers are available from Elite Wheels & tyres in Rainham, Essex see http://www.elitedirect.com (then again, it might be .co.uk:D )
  15. Thanx:) Another one added there then:D
  16. Hi all Can anyone please tell me how to add a picture of my Zed under my name on the left column of postings Thanx
  17. I've experienced occasional smoke at idle, about 30 secs after start-up then it goes with first blip of throttle. It happens some days and not others, I also alternate petrol between optimax or BP regular 95ron depending on where I am when car needs filling up. Now you've mentioned this I will check for a pattern too.....
  18. SRRAE has it spot on, the Zed has two smallish turbos of a hybrid design which virtually eliminates lag. They spool up quicker and at lower revs than one large one to give instant acceleration, whereas large turbos need plenty of revs to spin them. The Supra TT has twin sequential turbos. ie one small one to spin up immediately to give no lag and low down power, then the second bigger one cuts in to keep piling on the power once the small one is spent. Hence the 326 bhp and 325 lb/ft of torque on a UK Supra. This is easily installed on a straight-six engine so a similar set up on a Zed could therefore require 4 turbos........... ......Now there's an expensive thought. Also remember that it is more down to torque than big BHP which endows a car with good acceleration. Big BHP is more in the interests of top speed
  19. They are pretty good cars and quick in 2.5tt form. Toyota official figs are 0-60 in 6.1 (2.5tt manual) or 0-60 in 6.9 (4.0 auto). Both can reach 155 top. They are still a bit pipe and slippers though. However I have seen a couple lowered with a subtle bodykit and wide 18 inch wheels and they can look quite good. Otherwise they are too ordinary and even modified don't match the Zeds good looks. Handling not in the same league as the Zed either.
  20. Yep, I have to agree. I love my zed too:bow: ;) I've only had it since June but the more I drive it the more I love it. Especially when I took a Porsche 928 S4 yesterday:D :D He was tailgating me on a sliproad onto M25 early yeaterday morn. As we joined the m'way at about 50 ish he pulled straight into middle lane to pass me so I planted my right foot firmly into the carpet. He didn't get past and Zed beat him to 100 by a couple of car lengths:cool: I did intend to stay at 95-100 ish but when he caught up the temptation of an unusually empty M25 proved too much...........:D Needless to say I was first to the next (undisclosed for fear of incriminating myself) speed milestone and that was the last I saw of him:p Fuel consumption is a bit high at that speed, though, but WTF. Zed is dead fun. A wise purchase:)
  21. It's also worth buying a good warranty. The dealer I got mine from warrantied it himself, but that was't much good when I travelled 120 miles to but the car. Also if anything does break these are specialist cars so you don't want the average grease monkey working on it. I paid £375 for a 15 month policy from "Private Car Warranties" in SW London. They have already paid for PTU, temp sensor and something else in the sender/sensor area without question. That has already more than paid for itself;)
  22. In reply to John-boy's post, I have an induction kit on my zed and bell direct have just quoted me £485 - my renewal is due in a week and so far that's the best everyday user quote Perhaps they don't take kindly to multiple mods? Although they didn't mind the Azev wheels either but they are not performance related. As for classic policies, you could try Footman James in Birmingham. They used to insure my Jaguar, I paid the princely sum of £95 fully comp (limited to 2000 miles PA) when I lived in London:D Sorry but I don't have their number anymore. Otherwise how about: Adrian Flux - 0845 1303400 Houghton Insurance (my current broker - renewal £540 everyday policy with mods mentioned) 01582 861 234. They also have a classic scheme with limited miles Heritage (classic only) 0121 246 6060. They are recomended by the Toyota Enthusiasts Club for Supras etc, so will probably adapt for a Zed Hope this helps:)
  23. You have to get oil that is suitable for limited slip differentials, so normal gear box oil will not do. I don't think Halfords sell LSD oil from past experiences, but a specialist motor factor would. Demon Tweeks sell Redline fluids quite reasonbly.
  24. Sounds like it could be the PTU, that causes the engine to cut out when warm and not restart until cooled down. If that's the problem order one from Courtesy Nissan at http://www.courtesyparts.com It's less than half the price of a main dealer here and you'll get it in 5 working days
  25. I find that WRX/EVO etc are gererally quicker from a standing start, though not by much. But from 50+ or in overtaking manouvers the Zed has them beaten. Same with some bikes, off the lights most performance cars couldn't touch them but in the midrange say 50-100mph I've surprised a few bikers. I drove a Paramount Performance Jag XJR V8 the other day, now that was fooking quick (500BHP, 0-60 in 3.5). Still have whiplash from the g-force:D
