  1. Only on the last 2 nights of my honeymoon, in a 5star jobbie which wasn't cheap. great city, will go back again to see more! Richard
  2. Ha bloody ha!! When I read his force had the lowest burglary detection rate but highest speeding motorist capture rate I had to laugh.... If his force is so good at catching motorists, why did they fail to catch me on the A5 last year. I was driving on the wrong side of the road at up to 120mph most of the journey, overtaking the tw@ts in convoy at 50mph in a 60 zone who were making sure they weren't caught but more likely to cause more accidents when normal people are forced to overtake  I was in a quite distinctive black Supra, so not exactly blending into the scenery either!!
  3. Just for reference, points are removed from your licence by DVLA 4 years after the OFFENCE date for most cases. I got my sp50 removed 4 years to the day!! But for drink driving (and dangerous possibly) it is from date of CONVICTION (it's 10 years for drink driving.) Richard
  4. Hi Justin If your boost gauge needle sits more to the centre than left it could be something simple like a vacuum leak. Particularly in this recent cold weather, as the hoses contract reducing the seal effect (just like with fuel line leaks) My boost needle sits just to the right of -14 (UK car) normally at idle, but during cold weather it stays nearer -7 (3/4s left) for the first 10 minutes until the engine is warm before returning to normal. I had it checked by ZX specialist at local Mandella just after Xmas and he said everything was fine  HTH Richard :smw:
  5. Nooooo! I left mine at home and took the Corsa today  Only an inch of snow when I left home, but you never know what it's going to be like at home time? :nono: Glad I did, snowing heavily at 5pm and the A40 was dead slippery. I remember how difficult it was driving the Supra in snow last year, but the Zed has 50 extra horses galloping thru the rear wheels.......... If it's bad tomorrow, I'll get my boss to pick me up. He lives in my village and will pinch his wife's Honda CRV :D Richard :smw:
  6. Hi Alex Back to your quest for a Zed (debate aside) you won't be dissapointed with whatever version you chose. Even coming from a 928. (I guess yours was an S or S2, at 4.7L?) I was actually looking at the S4 or early GT models (5L versions, not later GTS 5.4 - not rich enough ;) ) which were all autos to replace my old Supra. Until I drove a ZXtt. A decent low mileage S4 was over £10k but the ZX was just over half that and performance almost identical (in fact up against an S4 last year my zx was first to reach an undisclosed 3 fig speed...... :D ). I test drove the two back to back one Saturday, which made up my mind. The 928 is indeed a great car - one of the best GT cars ever - but the ZX seemed more modern and easier to drive. (Then I've driven Jap cars since 1993 so I guess that's what I'm used to ;) ) Richard :smw:
  7. Hi all correct me if i'm talking b0ll0x, but wasn't the 300zx auto box one of those that "learns" your driving style? I know some Jap and German cars from the early 90's had these....... (don't laugh!!) Anyway, my auto box always pulls away in first but in normal driving, switches up to 2nd almost imediately, say at 10mph. Yes, it does seem faster when using 1 on the selector because it stays in 1st until you select the next gear. If I boot it from standstill in D it is just as quick in reality as it changes at the redline. As I rarely floor it from a standstill (traction issues ;) ) it will be more responsive in "1" than "d" as it won't change up at 10mph...... Richard :smw:
  8. Hi Jay You're right, there seem to be only a few options for the ZX. Mainly down to clearance required for brake calipers. Why do you need arches rolling for Azev As - is your car lowered a lot? I've got them and they fitted straight on. Mine are only 17s but the total diameter of 18s would be the same as you would have lower profile tyres. I have 9.5in wide on the rear with 255/40/17 and 8in wide on the front with 235/45/17. I got mine from DT motorsport, the UK importers of Azev (so prices cheaper than anyone else - you get them for the price DT sell them to other wheel suppliers) Total cost with goodyears £1004 Ring Dave or log onto http://www.dtmotorsport.co.uk HTH Richard ;)
  9. It is really down to personal choice in the end. We all like the cars we have, hence the arguments ;) As for which is fastest, drive both and pick the one you feel is better. I chose an auto because it was the best Zed from the ones I tested, not because it was an auto (I didn't mind which one I bought). I don't regret my choice. And the zed box is a good auto, not like the cr@p you would get in a Mondeo or low spec BW/Merc. Nissan have done a good job to keep performance similar between the models. It's said that autos are quicker to 100 but that is probably because in a manwell you would have 3 gear changes which the driver could get wrong. The auto eliminates driver error - you just slam your foot down and the car does the work, so timings would be more consistent. You are also always in the right gear for risky overtaking too, which helps with my driving. However a good driver would not fekk-up the gear changes in the manual. Just my 2p's worth Richard :smw:
  10. Hi Alex According to tests, the ring bulbs are 5hite. (auto express tests) You are better off with Osram or Phillips +30% H3s (Phillips won the tests) Get them post free (for £14 a pair from: http://www.autostylin.co.uk They are as good as PIAAs for a fraction of the cost. If you can't get a refund on the PIAA H1s, stick them in your main beam. They are bl00dy expensive, though. I have a pair of PIAA H3s which are good, but I bought Osrams to try coz they were cheap. I put them in and they were just as good as PIAAs at a third if the cost. I left them in and the PIAAs are still in their box....... HTH Richard :)
  11. Heh heh... I have heard it before, but it's still dead funny  Reminds me of the man who won the lottery. When he got home with the money, he shouted to his wife "I'm home love, I've just won the lottery so pack your bags..." "Great" said his wife, "Where are we going?" "Nowhere" replied the man "Just pack your bags and fook off!" :D

Sorry to hear that mate A baseball bat it too gentle for those fekkers. I quite like that car security device from South Africa with the flame throwers that come out of the sides. Fry the b45tards.............. ..........It's the only way to stop them ;) Hope you get it fixed soon Richard

I'm with Mac1 on this.....15w in this weather is not the best choice :nono: It's too thick from cold which could result in the excess pressure causing seals to leak. I use 5w40 and my zed's oil pressure is spot on - even during the hot summer ;) If you use the stock gauge, then the sender may be fekked if the readings are not right. I think 10w is the highest viscosity that should be used, according to the hand book. BTW i was never impressed with Mobil 0w40. It seemed too thin for my Supra and the pressure always dropped under too much heat. Hence I neveer used it in the Zed. 15w50 was ok in the summer, though. HTH Richard :smw:
  14. I believe you can get them from Amber Performance too, otherwise I would have said the Z centre as well..... :D They are not expensive, surprisingly  (I paid £80 for a set for my Supra...) Try: http://www.amber-performance.co.uk They sell them (Goodridge ones) for £45 inc vat (+ carriage, though, but they are £60 + vat on Zcentre site) Or call 01582 572 500 HTH Richard :smw:
  15. Hi If you've just topped up the coolant with a smallish amount it shouldn't make a difference except to the colour in the rad after a few miles ;) I've heard they are different according to colour but they still both do the same job. If you've not had the coolant changed for a while I'd drain, flush and refill it anyway. I believe it should be done every 2 years. Just to get the mixture right, I was lazy and bought the Nissan ready mixed stuff (which is green ;) ) Richard :smw:
  16. The straps...... Of course ! :o I wondered what they were for................ I'll read the manual someday :slap: Richard ;)
  17. Hi Dave I just put mine in the bags and lay them in the boot...... I used to be lazy and just lay them in the boot, but with "enthusiastic" cornering in the lanes one of them must have hit the boot trim, coz I've got a small pain chip on its corner :slap: Otherwise, on the floor behind the passenger seat with the seat fully back to make sure they don't move around. HTH Richard :smw:
  18. Hi Hi5 Nice rims, they would suit the Zed. Before you get dissapointed about them only being 7.5ins wide, ring the company to see if they would fit a Zed. As I said, the stock fronts are 7.5 (+ all round on a j-spec) and whilst many aftermarket rims are at least 8ins wide, they may still be OK if the offset is right. You may be lucky........ If they do fit, you are limited WRT the width of your rear tyres, but as stock J-spec only has 225s all round you could get away with 235/40/18s. Richard :)
  19. tps

Dead easy to get, my local mandella got me one the next day. I think it was only £34+vat If it is the same part as the other cars mentioned, I bet they charge more if you say it is for a ZX ;) Richard :smw:
  20. Hi Hi5 With your alloys, the offset/pcd sounds ok but not the tyre size. 235 fine for the front but should be "40" profile with 18s 255/35/18 for the rear, at least. You don't mention the width of the rims either. They must be at least 8 inches wide (yes, I know stock fronts are 7.5 but not many aftermarket 7.5 wide wheels will fit). The Zed has big brake calipers so many popular wheel applications (TSW, BK, Team Dynamics etc) will probably not fit. Just try ringing companies like WheelBase or South West Tyres - despite the hooj range they stock they only have 3 or 4 types that will fit a Zed. I found only the more expensive wheels (Azev, Wheelmania etc) were ok. HTH Richard :smw:
  21. As I've only had mine 7 months I can't say with the certainty of others here. However there seem to be more posts for "reliable" than not. When I first considered buying one most reports said these cars are generally reliable if looked after properly (It is a Nissan, afterall). I have spoken to people who have owned 2 or 3 Zeds in succession and never had any problems. I get the impression those with highly modded cars have the most problems............ Richard ;)
  22. Hi all That looks simlar to the Razo (I think that's what they are called  ) item. They do various auto-shifters for jap sports cars Richard :smw:
  23. PS I've taken a couple of GTOs from rolling at 20-30 upward in my old Supra. And the Zed is way faster than that was!! Richard
  24. Whoops, thanks to SRRAE re-quoting my post I noticed my deliberate error.... ......The What-car mag feature was actually Oct 1993 (not 2003) and related to new cars. It was a feature when the Poopra was first introduced to test it against rivals. Sorry :slap: Anyways, Stuart's point re Supra 1/4 mile time is a good point. The J-spec Poopra has 280BHP (smaller tubbys) compared to the UK one at 326bhp. The Supra is one exeption when comparing UK cars to J-imports, The UK one is actually way better. (unless you spend over £20K and get the VVTI model from 1999 onward) ;) Richard
  25. Hi Stuart Thanks for referring me to Claude Charest for indicator lights. He's sending mine out today along with a set of Silver Vision bulbs. Excellent prices and service. :hyper: Richard ;)
