  1. Interesting 'site, Asroma. But I would think twice before buying wheels from any supplier that lists 7X17 wheels as fitments for a ZX. They wouldn't clear the calipers?? :nono: Stock wheels are 7.5 wide (8.5 at rears on a UK car). When I was looking for wheels no supplier suggested run-of-the-mill brands as the fitment is not available. Anyone here will tell you only a few manufacturers make wheels for the ZX, same for Supra RX7 and probably GTO..... Richard :)

Sam Cookey ??? He is an import dealer based in South East London. Either that car has been for sale a very long time or he just uses the same photo for every black ZX he sells. His cars have always seemed cheaper than others, I looked at a black GTO and (maybe this??) black ZX about 15 months ago. Something didn't quite feel right about either one, so I walked away..... Could be I'm just too fussy, though...LOL.... Richard
  3. Hi Sonix There are a few good ones for sale knocking around the forum at present. :) The trouble with new imports is that everyone and his dog is doing it now, so unless they are a good importer/dealer, the chances are that most will probably be the cr@p no-one else wants. The best imports are usually ones brought in a while back which are now on their 2nd UK owner..... There are still a few good importers around. Contact Kent Terry at Jap City http://www.jap-city.co.uk Otherwise buy from someone on here. The car would most likely have been looked after and maintained by an enthusiast with a host of knowledge available to them.... ;) Good hunting, mate Richard :)
  4. I went for an Avital (made by Clifford) Maxx3 total closure jobbie. It has all the features of the Clifford without the complexities and price. It's been good so far......................... With window closure added it was £350 all in IIRC. Richard :)
  5. Rare for a BMW(anker) driver....... They normally try to race everything on the road
  6. OK, I'll give a serious reply  Firstly as Herman says, drive both and makes your choice....... I thought of the TT gto before buying my ZX, until I drove one :nono: They weigh over 1/4 of a tonne more than the ZX and it shows, check out WhatCar and AutoCar road test results 0-60 in close to a ZX (ZX 0.4 faster) but 0-100 the ZX is 2 seconds in front. The GTO suffers from too much turbo lag and the mid-range performance is disapointing (something all testers/journalists agree on). I rate overtaking ability over standing starts significantly - much safer for passing slow traffic on A/B roads. All the GTO tts I drove were crap in this area, whereas the ZX is really good there. I had the old Supra single turbo before my ZX and that was faster than the GTO despite being 30+bhp down in comparison. GTO is a good looker, though and the 4WD grip is excellent. However even by fitting good tyres you can transform the grip and handling of the ZX...... ;) The gearbox probs with the GTO IIRC related to the old 5 speeder, the new shape 6 speeder didn't suffer, I believe, and was a better car to boot. (and more expensive....) However Evo Mag, Jezza Clarkson and Tiff Needel rate the ZX as one of the best drivers cars ever.........no mention of the GTO, though  At the end of the day it's all down to your personal opinion as many GTO owners will give as many arguements against the ZX... :slap: Richard :)
  7. Woohooo......... Just posting my 500th :hyper: Richard :smw:
  8. Hi Trev, My goodyears are still new, so I don't know what they will be like once they've worn down to 2-3mm. But so far I'd say they were better than the Michelins for all-round grip in wet or dry. They are also a few quid cheaper ;) Richard :)
  9. BTW, I have just e-mailed ProCarParts about the Alzetta lights. I've asked them to confirm where the indicators & reflectors are..... Also I asked if they will do a discount for a bulk order, should a number of us want a pair. I'll start a new thread with the results once I hear from them. Richard
  10. I've not used them yet, but was thinking of ordering the 1999-spec rear lights...... .....Let me know what happens, mate Richard
  11. Nigel, I think the white lenses are the indicators (with orange bulbs fitted). This is a direct repalcement for stock unit, as the stock reverse lights are still left where they are. The only legal issue I can see is where are the red reflectors.... Richard :)
  12. The 225bhp TT is pretty quick compared to "ordinary" cars but a stock ZXtt auto should still be quicker (He says knowingly ;) ) Did it actually beat you or just keep up? A chipped one could be around 260bhp which would help it keep up with a ZX but still not beat it.... Richard :)
  13. I hate to see that happen. IMO The thieving to$$ers should face a much harsher punishment if caught, rather than the slap on the wrist currenty metered out. Some form of corporal punishment or public humiliation, eg the stocks or public flogging. Better still, let the victim of their crime and a couple of mates loose on them with baseball bats for 10 minutes. Unfortunately there are too many bleeding-heart liberals wailing about human rights for that to ever happen. And that is if they are caught anyway. The police are too pre-occupied persecuting motorists today to worry about real criminals  (Although not through their own fault, they too are victims of government think-tanks green lobbies and anti-car activists  ) Sorry to rant off subject, slightly but if there was a real deterrant we wouldn't suffer this kind of crime or need to spend hundreds on car security. It works in far-eastern countries FFS  I feel for your mate, Fas Richard :(
  14. Brilliant   I was off to the Chinese for lunch today.......... I think I'll just go to the Pub for roast beef........ Richard :D
  15. Nice one, Stuart. It's good to see it back after the run-in with W.V.M.... :) Definately one of the best 'kitted Zeds I've seen.. Top install too, you've still retained most of the boot space. Richard :smw:
  16. Some tyres will inevitably lose grip significantly as they wear, especially in the wet - there is less tread-gap to chanel the water properly. I've not had the ZX long enough to wear a set of tyres yet but I got through several in the Supra. It came with Bridgestones and they too lost grip at the rear well before the legal limit. I also had a set of BF Goodrich profiler Gs, they were excellent and I had no idea when they had worn to illegal levels because grip was still sooooo good. They didn't last long, though so I never used them again and stuck to Michelin Pilot Sport on the Supra after that. They were as good as BFGs but lasted way longer.... I now have Goodyear GDS3 F1s on the ZX, so far so good............. Richard :)
  17. I've used it in cars in the past. Some it made a difference and others it didn't. The last car I used it in was my first Supra. It didn't seem to like it for some reason, it made the oil pressure drop slightly  . Consequently I didn't used it in either my next Supra or the ZX. I don't think it can do any harm, but as mentioned earlier the ingredients of Slick 50 should be present in all premium brands of oil anyway........ Richard :)

I used TurtleWax colour magic (red, of course :D ) followed by either TurtleWax Extreme or Autoglym. Both came up good ;) Otherwise anything containing "Carnuba" wax is good....... Richard :smw:
  19. I agree with the mobil-1 thing (0w40, anyway). My Supra always sounded a little noisier with it and the oil pressure seemed a little lower at m-way speed. Other 0W40 oil (eg Castrol RS - sold in Halfords or BP garages) never gave these symptoms. A performance car specialist told me this was a problem specific to Mobil-1 so I've never used it in my ZX. I used it once in my corsa (which had under 20K miles) and it seemed more rattly from cold. Again I now use Castrol RS 0w40 or Shell Helix Ultra in that and it's much better. Richard :smw:
  20. Personally, Mooch I think the car looks far better without it. If you have a new bumper and the hole has beel filled, don't put it back ;) Just my opinion..... Richard :smw:
  21. Seconded... I use 5W40 Shell Helix Ultra (fully synth) at present. But for the next service I've ordered some Miller's fully synth 5W40 from Mike Feeny at MJP (see traders forums). Mike knows his Zeds and reckons this stuff gives good results. Plus it's only about £30 for 5 litres (I was paying £36 for 4 Litres of the shell stuff). Oh and fully synthetic was probably around when the Zed was new, I believe Mobil-1 has been on sale since 1990-ish (as was Duckhams QXR - the advert showed a 1989 Ferrari F40).... Fully synth was developed for all high performance engines, as mineral oils (and semi-synth) were simply not up to the job, especially in turbo cars at high temps. HTH Richard ;)
  22. What's happened to Luke's site, http://www.zcentre.co.uk ? Tried logging on just now and got onto some site called 2K2 electronics ??? Happened 5 times in the last 15 minutes.... Anybody else tried to view the site today? Richard

Just looked it up in one of my car bibles..... 0-62.5 mph in 7 secs 152 mph max 2959 V6 engine giving 207bhp @ 6200rpm Weight 1280kg.... Enough for the anoraks?? :D :p Richard :smw:
  24. Like I said, it was a long time ago....... Mid 1980s in fact, was actually a laugh back then.......honest !! Richard ;)
  25. Transport 2000......? Another name for tree loving, anti-car :xxx: Nuff said ;)
