Congratulations to Charles and Camilla
Well said (again)... I have no interest in their lives either but at last he's done it. On the subject of freeloading royals, Prince Charles actually receives nothing from the civil list at all. His main source of income is from The Duchy of Cornwall - so for a royal of major importance he is not fleecing us tax payers, unlike this fekking government  Richard

I'VE SOLD MY HOUSE (subject to contract)
Nice one Paul   Wish I could do the same with mine - been for sale since last summer most probably down to cr@p estate agents. :( Still I've told them to feck off and switched to another agent. Got a couple of people coming round later so fingers crossed....... Hopefully I can move closer to work soon as I am fed up with a 50 mile daily round trip. Richard

erm in the need of brakes
EBC are not highly recommended here. IIRC aren't Red Stuff the ones that only work properly once warmed up. When they are cold the car doesn't stop at all..... A good stock upgrade are slotted brembo discs from http://www.3gbrakes.co.uk and either Porterfield pads from Smithy or Stillen metal pads (I have these) from MJP, both in the traders sections. belt change
Welcome to the forum Jon  £450 for the full 60k belt service is very cheap mate, Nissan charge around £1000  The ZX is a well put together car and so much is squeezed into a small space that most jobs run into £££££s for the labour charges. As for the other items (water pump etc) believe me, get them done at the same time as the belts. It is much easier whilst the front of the engine is removed because if you dont, the water pump WILL pack up and leak between 60-70K miles and you'll have to pay for all that labour again. Plus the belt tensioner is one of the most expensive ever at around £200 from Nissan. I don't mean to be funny, but if your motoring budget is limited don't buy a ZX. They are essentially reliable cars but have a healthy appetite for fuel and tyres, also when they do go wrong you need deep pockets........ Richard :D

NZR - Advice on new BMW M3
I like the E46 M3 but it doesn't look that much different from the regular coupe to stand out from the crowd. I'm still hankering after a Cerbera or an XKR myself. Then I remind myself that the TVR breaks down all the time and a high proportion of 70K mile XKRs for sale for under £24K seem to have new engines for some reason.... I therefore can't think of another replacement for the ZX at present (unless I can find a very low mileage very late model Pork 928GTS 5.4 auto) so I'll just keep it a bit longer........ Wheels SOS
   :nono: Your Z no longer has the classiest rear on here, Manta :p Richard ;)

Slick 50 etc?
Slick 50...... .......DON'T DO IT !!!!!! You have been warned  Use a decent oil in the first place and change it regularly, additives are not really beneficial or recommended for our engines. Richard :D

jap supercars
I bought this from e-bay last year for a couple of pounds :hyper: There is another comment about the ZX "......buy one, drive it for 60,000 miles and trade it in. It will be THE most perfect experience of your motoring life......." Nuff said ;) Richard ;)

pads
I had the same set-up, bought from 3g. The pads didn't squeel but lasted around 5 minutes :wack: I have now got Stillen Metal Matrix pads from Mike Feeney (about £58+vat) and the car stops much better than on the Mintex ones. They've lasted longer so far too..... Richard :D

wheel/tire
If it helps, on my Mk3 Supra before my ZX, I had 7.5 x 17 wheels all round with 225/45s on front and 245/40s on the rear and they fitted and drove just fine. Richard
-
wheel/tire
Just about, but you'd really need at least an 8 inch wide rim for the best fit. Oh, and that would be 245/40/17 to keep the overall diameter as close to stock as possible, assuming that's for a rear wheel. You'd have 225/45/17 fronts with that. Richard

motor oils..
Or simply read your hand-book and buy the best synthetic, equivalent grade available........... :headvswal Richard :x:

NZR But did anyone see this?
Football does nothing but encourage a yob-culture in today's youngsters. The players are all moronic thugs who should not earn £50k a year, let alone a week :xxx: They are a bad example to all young fans who idolize them. Bring back National Service to teach them respect and dicipline........... (Jezus I sound like my late Grandfather!!!!!! :o :nelson: ) Richard :headvswal

RIP Pope John Paul II
I agree. If you don't play the game don't make the rules :nelson: :x: Anyway as a non-catholic (Non-Christain or any other secular religion for that matter) he had no effect or influence on my life so neither does his death. People the world over in their 80s are dying every day so JP2's passing may serve me to spare a thought for them, as it reminds me of our own mortality. Richard :(

350z owners
True, although I've exchanged approving nods with a few 350Z drivers at petrol stations so I guess I've mostly encountered enthusiasts. I regularly encountered a Bronze 350 on my way to work a couple of weeks last year. We had a couple of interesting moments along a dual carriageway where I showed the Z32 was still the fastest Z, after that he'd wave respectfully as I passed or simply hang his head in shame....... :o Richard

300ZX or....
Fully agree here. They are two totally different cars, The Probe like its successor the Cougar and opposition the Calibra were little more than warmed over saloons with a fancy body-work conversion. They were (and still can be) good cars though and a worthy step up from all the annonymous hot hatch boxes out there if you want individuality. But the ZX was built from the ground up as a sporting GT car, designed specifically to go fast. For that you have to pay - hence the differences in prices when new. As for economy, I have a stock TT auto and average 19mpg. I've not had less than 18 round town, but I have seen it drop to 11 driving very hard and fast across the Yorkshire Moors  Richard

Feel like sh1t
Sorry to hear that Leigh :( Unfortunatley it's the state of society today where no-one can accept responsibility for their own failures and seek to blame innocent others just to get compensation. Her case doesn't sound too strong and I'm sure the police won't get involved as it's a civil matter. Good luck, I'm sure it will come to nothing in the end. Richard

oil pressure ?
Normally it's just the sender unit - they are always going wrong on the ZX. They cost about £85 for a new one from Nissan too so some people have fitted aftermarket guages for much less £££. I like the OEM look so bought a new sender 2 years ago - it still works......... Richard

Weight of VG30 DETT................
And probably easier to fit than a Yank lump too....... Richard

uk fog lights
For the UK rear fogs, there is no reason why you can't buy another light to replace the blank. Just join the live to the live from the existing light, although the fuse may need uprating to allow for the extra draw but I should think it will be fine. To fit front fogs, you need to get J-spec indicators to replace the blanks in the corners, then buy a pair of fog/side light combis. Luke at the Z centre sells all of these bits although front fogs are expensive, you could try AndyZ or DaveC for 2nd hand ones but they can be hard to source. A cheaper new alternative is the USA spec. Get the corners (side/indicator combi) and the fogs are then just fogs (not side lights too, as J spec). Sheck out http://www.procarparts.com they are cheaper than Courtesy Nissan. It is an easy job to do, I then bought a fog lamp connection kit from Halfords for abour £11 which contained all the wiring, relay etc. HTH Richard

electric antenna problem
There is actually a relay to the aerial. If you remove the right hand trim inside the boot it is an opaque box the size of a ciggie box bolted just above the wheel arch. Mine wouldn't work at all when I got the car, my mechanic by-passed the relay just to get some movement so I could listen to the radio. However I bought a 2nd hand one for a few pounds from AndyZ and now it still works properly 2 years later. Richard :smw:

Performance Question
Possibly Mark..... .....I also find my ZX is faster when Whitesnake or Guns N Roses are playing for some reason   Richard :D

Junk your aircon!
So true - anything over 80 with targas out is not comfortable so I've not tried above 100 yet..... I don't care about the engine cooling or performance stats, I don't want to overheat myself so the air-con stays put thank you very much. I would not have a car, ANY car without it now, UK summers are too humid and sticky. Even a targa or full convertible is no substitute for good old a/c  Richard :D

newb considering 300zx rather than gto etc, help me please
I drove several examples of both cars before settling on a ZX. The clincher was the superior mid-range acceleration and sheer driving pleasure of the ZX. The GT/GTO may have 4wd and initial grip is better than a ZX, but the ZX is lighter (1500-ish kg compared to 1800-ish kg) and stock for stock (in UK spec for up to 1994 cars - proven in Autocar/WhatCar testing) a ZX will do 0-100 in just over 14 secs compared to 16.1 for the GT. Plus get decent tyres on the ZX and grip will be OK anyway (although not in 4wd league) and after 40mph you'll be pulling away. I have read that the latest UK spec (2000 year) 3000GTs were 320 bhp compared to 281 for the earlier ones and would do the 1/4 in mid-13s though. If that's correct that model GT is the one to go for - I still like the look of them and would consider owning one. But the ZX is a hard habit to break...... Drive a few and make your choice. Richard :D
