  1. Sorry to hear that mate  I too hope she makes a speedy recovery and will be back in the saddle with you soon. All the best to you both Richard
  2. Noooo! Just gave the ZX a thrashing on the way to work this morning and I just love the thrust as the turbos kick in .....that 50-100 is awesome. The 350 is still a great car none the less and I would probably get one over a 7 year old XKR - newer car and Nissan reliability. Maybe the best option would be to upgrade my suspension, fit poly bushes etc to improve the handling but my ZX still corners pretty good for a stock car - it's only had real use since I've owned it so it's not wallowy like some shagged ones  Anyway, I think I'll just hang on to it  Richard
  3. Hi all Whilst collecting Julia's car from the garage Saturday I noticed they had a nice imported 350Z for sale so i managed to get a test-drive...... I have to say I was VERY impressed - it is an excellent car all round (But I think the interior finish is still better on the 300) OK it lacks the straight line sheer grunt of the 300ZX TT but it is still a fekking quick car and there is still plenty of torque so that the 'box doesn't require constant stirring. I stuffed a Boxter S on a dual carriageway with ease  And it revs straight to the red line - plus a trick "limiter" light flashes when you hit max RPM. But drive it on a twisty country lane and it leaves the ZX for dead - on familiar bendy unclassified roads (with the odd adverse camber) where I blat around in the ZX at 70-80 I could manage 100 comfortably in the 350  OK it may have the finish of an upmarket Renault but as a drivers car it is truly superb - I may have found the car to replace my ZX with afterall........... Richard :x:
  4. And polyester at that - fekkin hell they must be sweating their man-tits off in that heat with those man-made fabrics....  Richard :smash:
  5. No worries Mark, Hope you get it sorted soon Richard
  6. If it happens when going downhill it could be the PCV valves. IIRC if you brake hard with clutching (or just brake hard in an auto) and the revs drop down v. low or the car stalls this is also a symptom of the PVC valves. If it was your piston rings surely you would have low compression..... ? I can't explain the oil consumption if the rings are OK though, unless you have a turbo problem. My ZX uses virtually no oil at all - I've only ever had to top it up once or twice since I've had it, and no more than 200ml. Richard
  7. I used to drive 50 miles per day mon-fri in the ZX and spent around £50 per week depending on the pump price. I have a UK car so standard 95ron is fine. Optimax doesn't really make any difference to my ZX's performance either, although I do get an extra 15-20 miles between fill-ups with it. Import owners will tell me if I'm wrong here, but imports will require Optimax or at least super u/l.... As far as Nissan dealers go, most are cr@p. But Dan Perkins in Slough is actually very good - they have a ZX specialist in the workshop. (Although they do sh@g you up the @rse with the cost of parts  ) Richard
  8. Best give Ryan at Ztech a call - see traders section Richard :(
  9. Great "Michael Knight" pose in that pic dave :p My 2nd Mk3 Soop Tubby was an imported black targa GT with digital dash - Fantastic car. Everyone called it KITT  Richard ;)
  10. Welcome to the forum :nana2: I have a UK spec auto (now up to 79K miles) and it's been very reliable since I've had it. I've had the PTU problem that hits about all series 1 cars at 60k-ish miles (cost about £120 from Courtesy Nissan in USA - well over £250+vat from Nissan here  ) and I had to replace the battery last month. Basic servicing doesn't cost the earth either. My local garage charges me around £75 inc VAT but I do supply my own oil at an extra £30-ish - a good fully synthetic every time. Never skimp there. I average around 19mpg with a mix of town/a-road and fast driving. On a long M-way run at a steady 90-100mph I get around 260-270 miles from a tank before the light comes on. Take your time and pick the right car but remember even the newest are around 11 years old (unless you can find a rare v. late import) and with any similar high performance car things will be of the age where they need replacing. Good luck Richard :smw:
  11. A 1976 Cavalier Mk1 RWD saloon 1.6gl :o Actualy it was a pretty good car in its day - followed it up with the 1.9 then the 2.0 coupe (Manta style). I rebuilt the engine in the Coupe adding twin webbers, a Janspeed etc and it really went well at the time :D Richard :smw:
  12. Robert mate, I reckon something is wrong with your Z. Mine auto TT is stock apart from an induction kit and (since last week) a Blue Flame exhaust and 50-80 it is damn good. It overtakes loads of cars on a twisty a-road without effort and the 50-100 nothing this side of a modern supercar really comes close. Like Homebrew says, get it checked out. It should fly in that speed range - it's what the ZX is best at. Richard :(
  13. Looking good Jay - very good mate (can't beat the 99-spec IMO) You coming to the next Slough meet? look forward to seeing it then Richard
  14. Soooo true. I was born in 1970 and remember all that. Then there were the street parties in the East end to celebrate the Queen's silver Jubilee in '77..... And yes, brats of today don't know how to make proper friends by talking to each other. They just text or email. My mates and I used to play war with fireworks too - launching mini-rockets and chucking bangers at each other and you know what? No-one got hurt. Sure we had rules, like only aiming at the torso and we had to wear leather or heavily padded jackets. We made little hand-held launchers for the rockets. Little "guns" out of a lighter welded to some metal tube in metal-work class..... Those were the days...... ....then when we reached our later teens Friday night meant getting pi55ed around a mates house as his folks went away every weekend. We used to nick people's gates - lifting them off the hinges - and hide them under parked cars. Even made the local paper as "....The phantom gate snatchers....." Ahhhhh Richard
  15. Hi Manta, A couple of places spring to mind from when I had a Mk3 Soop. Fensport in Cambs http://www.fensport.co.uk The Supraman in Kent - 01474 815332 or try parts suppliers on http://www.supras.co.uk http://www.supras.co.uk/resources/parts.htm HTH Richard
  16. The 330d is pretty fast due to low down torque but as already pointed out 30-70 comes 2 secs faster in the ZX. Although with the ZX power coming in a bit later, I'd guess 30-50 would be pretty even but after that you should be pulling ahead comfortably. I've been up against a few decent big engined turbo diesels, 330d included. If they get a head start, or you hold back cautiously on a wet road then you'll have to really push a stock ZX to catch it. But keep your foot down hard you'll pass it soon enough. I had a tosser in a 330d tailgating me last year on the M1-M18. Each time the road cleared I floored it and left him for dead. When traffic got heavier i slowed down and used the correct lanes for the junction - typical BM driver just carried on driving like a w@nker and cut everyone up at the junction. Keeping good lane dicipline until I was well onto the M18, he got ahead of me but once the M18 cleared I showed him 4 clean tailpipes  Mind you, a BM tuner has a decent chip upgrade for the 330d that knocks 2-3 seconds off the 0-100 time. That could be a match for a stock ZX tt in the mid-range :x: Richard
  17. A ZX TT, auto or manwell is a great car to drive. I drove several of each before buying mine and had no preference either way - it just happened that the one I bought was an auto. Just by the best ZX you can. Good luck Richard
  18. Amen, Mac
  19. That's got to be pretty good for a stock motor in my book - I mean the record is around 7 mins 49 in a very highly modded Blitz Supra. It beat the record previously held by a Skylark ......... ......unless someone else has bettered that since Richard
  20. The so called "agreement" in Japan to limit output to 280bhp was made in the mid-90s after the introduction of the ZX IIRC. With J-spec cars they could well be 300BHP as all high performance jap motors are quoted at 280bhp but in reality may be much more - I mean is the Skyline R34 GTR really only 280bhp????? I think not! ;) UK spec was 280bhp as it was set for running on 95RON unleaded. A simple filter and exhaust upgrade on a UK car could see 300bhp without too much trouble, as the stock set-up in these areas is quite restrictive. Richard :smw:
  21. Really?? The ones I drove were all excellent drivers, anthough Nissan's testers could still lap the Nurburgring quicker than Porsche's top testers could in a 928GT back at the launch of the 300ZX :D  I always liked the 928 and the last few GTSs were supposed to be "The Daddy of all GT cars....." That said, I was looking at a few 928 S4s before I bought my ZX and you all know which one I chose ;) Richard :nana2:
  22. You can go up to 245 wide on the 8.5 wide fronts but I wouldn't recommend it. Any wider than 235 fronts will tramline like shite!!!! On 9.5 rears you could probably fit 275s but for wet traction stick to 265s. The sizes given by vinz are spot on for optimum all round performance. Richard
  23. The 350 is a nice car, just getting a bit common now ;) I would have one myself but think the 300ZX has more character and style. I have thought about replacing my ZX the last couple of months but for the money I'd spend on a 350Z I'd buy a 6-7 year old XKR instead. Anyway, if you're worried about having nothing to go off road in, why not ditch the 206? Richard :D
  24. Love it Stu  But it is also those living in the large cities and conurbations. Look at a political map of the whole country and most of it would be painted blue, it's just the cities (London, Brum, Manchester, Liverpool etc) where there are loads more potential seats most of them are labour held. I reckon Scotland should also be given full independence - loads of Labour safe seats there would be gone..... ;) And as for emigrating to Spain - I think I'd prefer Oz  See you all there....... Richard :(
  25. From the pics, it looks identical. I heard a rumour here that Blue Flame made them for Mongoose  Anyway, it's a top piece of kit in good quality s/steel. It's worth checking out their ebay ads as for the last few weeks they've put a ZX exhaust on each week with a £350 reserve (retail supposedly £539). I got lucky with a bid bang on £350 so give it a go peeps!! Richard :)
