wife paid off
I remember that - Natasha Kaplinsky that is, not you Jane; LOL.... .....and I know there are so many reasonable people (like you, possibly:whistling:) who would do the right thing. The girls at my company for instance have been there a long time and always play fair - so I'd treat them more than fairly as they so deserve..... ....but I have also had a bad experience with a new employee who was blatantly trying to take the piss. Sadly for her, when she announced her pregnancy she had not been employed quite long enough to qualify for paid maternity leave. She behaved like a complete diva once she announced her pregnancy thinking she was untouchable - but she wasn't untouchable and I (fortunately) offloaded her without any problems at all....:2guns: Richard:cool3:

wife paid off
Even if your not - I have to say that as an employer myself, I am always apprehensive about employing any women aged 25-45 just for the possibility they might be! Yes, I am ashamed that I think like that. But if I do employ someone I expect them to work for a reasonable time before wanting maternity leave. But sadly there are so many examples of women accepting a new job and then going on maternity leave within a few months, leaving the employer not only having to seek a replacement but saddled with maternity pay costs as well. Not to mention having to keep the first lady's job open for her to return as well. Fine for BT, Barclays Bank and all other big national conglomerates; but for a small company it is potentially crippling. There should be a "two tier" system IMO..... Richard:whistling:

wife paid off
Yup - as Jane says, her boss has played completely into her/your hands. He was always on shaky ground making someone redundant who is pregnant (not illegal by any means; but if you do, you'd better have followed every procedure correctly). But with his attitude, he is clearly using bullying tactics - believe me; an employment tribunal will walk all over him behaving like that. I'm so sorry your wife had to go through that, but urge you both not to accept defeat and walk away. It's what her boss wants! As with any type of meeting which could result in an employee losing their job, the employee must be allowed the presence of a representative (either a colleague, union rep or the like). If she was not offered the chance of being accompanied then that is yet another breach of your wife's rights. He has also not followed procedure regarding her appeal hearing - 48 hours notice is customary; not legally binding, but reasonable in the circumstances. In all cases, once your wife lodged her appeal the meeting should be scheduled at a mutually convenient time and with sufficient notice for your wife to seek councel and/or arrange a representative as necessary. Do note these issues down - what was written and said; and by whom. It all adds to the evidence that procedure was not properly followed and gives credence to your wife's case. I wish you the best of luck mate - and I hope that your wife pulls through with the minimum of stress to you both and your unborn child. Richard

Brake dics
Yup - what Graham said..... ......in fact on Ebay, you can buy a pair of Brembo "stock replacement" discs for around £78. For that money, I'd buy those and not bother with an unknown make of drilled or grooved items. At least you have the Brembo quality!! They will be just fine for normal road use; you can get a set of Brembo pads too for about £25! Richard:cool3:

ive just been a complete dickhead
Eeeek - sorry to hear that Andy:helpsmilie: I hope it is OK; one of my engineers did this in his van last year and (luckily) it didn't do any harm.... ....but to answer Japslapper's question; putting diesel in a petrol is not as bad as petrol in a diesel... ....in a petrol the diesel can act as an upper cylinder lubricant - and if diluted with enough petrol will burn off. Sure it will run rough - and might clog an injector - but it is not necessarily so bad. However petrol in a diesel can wreck an engine if your unlucky:oops: Good luck Andy, Richard:helpsmilie:

Audio Section on Forum
Not a bad idea at all... ....although given the levels of interest, I'd probably go for an audio/security/in-car tech combined section. After all, most car hi-fi outlets also specialise in security and navigation etc..... I'll bring up your suggestion with the rest of the committee and we'll have a think about it! Richard:rockon:

felt like i was on top gear today
Brilliant! I must admit I often play that game..... when the reserve light comes on, I switch the display to show how many miles I have left and then try to go beyond that! When it gets down past about 10 miles, the display switches to a picture of the car next to a petrol pump. Nuisance really, as the display on my old car would actually go down to "zero" miles left!! Either way, when I do refuel, it still only takes about 67 litres (71 litre tank); so I still have almost a gallon left. And that's probably 25 miles!!! Richard:thumbup:

My advice - keep it simple and upgrade to the UK spec set-up! Richard:cool2:

MOT 90-93 Cars
LOL - I'm with Rich on that one too....!! As Paul says, the 300zx is not in the emissions database.... ....and as for "other cars" your tester needs to check his database, as cats were compulsory additions to new cars from 1/8/1992 - K-reg onwards!! Richard:1eye:

White smokey steam around brake cylinder area
Yes - but Nissan had solved the problem when they introduced the series 2 cars.... .....and the BMC is interchangable - so why not buy a 2nd hand series 2 part from JeffTT!! I did that on my old red ZX and it worked just fine. My blue car is a series 2 and does sometimes get left in the garage for a couple of weeks or more at a time - but does not suffer brake fluid leakage....:sailor: Richard:cool3:

White smokey steam around brake cylinder area
Just a thought, but the early cars were prone to brake master cylinder leakage.... .....so could it be brake fluid that has leaked out whilst the car was standing, which dripped onto something hot and is consequently evapourating? Richard:helpsmilie:

Decent Diesel Estate cars???
My advice - anything German.... ....Audi A4/A6; VW Passat; (similar to Audi but cheaper); BMW 3 or 5 series; Merc C or E class Mercs are once again decent cars nowadays mate! 2003 onward Mercs will be just fine - and sooo much better than anything Ford can produce!! I'm on my third SLK now; I've had a 1999 230 Kompressor; a 2006 SLK350 and now a 2009 SLK350. The build quality is just superb...!! Plus back in 2008 when my car was being repaired after an accident, I seemed to be given their entire range as courtesy cars. I had a couple of C classes (petrol and diesel); an M-class (280CDi) and my favourite of the bunch, a brand new (then) E320CDi - that was lovely (if a bit slow for my personal taste; but still not too shabby)!! Richard:thumbup1:
