550cc plus injector needed within the week...
No mate, they meant for the newer style fule rails. so you would need an adapter kit from Z1 or similar. Also am only aware of 1 company who do on the shelf chip for 740cc's so you need to trasnport the car somewhere to be mapped, unless JD could do you a rough chip to drive ssomewhere. smithy

small problem
Was there a question there somewhere lol Thought this was the idea, you knew this turbo was knackered like your last one and you were changing it yourself for the new one that came with the car? smithy

550cc plus injector needed within the week...
Just bite the bullet mate and buy new, rarely see them second hand and even then if i was buying second hand i'd want them flow tested. Just buy Nismo 555's for a pre 94 with new connectors, wap them in and job done, no rail required and you know they good. Plus many off the shelf chips to suit. Order from the US and you'll have them by wednesday. smithy

So this thread is no good now then? http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=144069&referrerid=119 It's just in that one you said you had a turbo fitted to replace the one Jeff told you was seized, so maybe the same guy can do it just as quick? smithy

Can't vouch for other jap cars, but the Zed, ermmmm NO! Smithy

Beware cheap intercoolers!
Wise words John, i've said for years on here about how bad some of the copy intercooler stuff is. Jap performance some years ago tested about 6 coolers on the same scooby and dynoed the car each time. Certainly the ebay jobbies whilst looking very professionaly done and all shiny etc, in most cases were either as effcient as stock or at best, just over stock. ( 1 cooler was even worse than stock) Much of the big name branded companies set out using the best quality cores and often hand finishing their coolers as they aimed at the motorsport world, not boy races, plus they have a name to uphold too. At the end of the day it is one of those products where the good looks can hide the faults! Craig, when i was in business couple years back,Aotobahn were offering me their products with a 25% discount on their normal prices, how they make them and then make a profit on the current retail price i'l never know, let alone then to offer a 25% discount ontop.. smithy

Question about changing my auto turbos to the larger manual ones.
Not worth it in the slighest mate, there is very little difference to be had and the cost of fitting far outways it, big time! smithy

my zed is poorly !!
Sure if you've a spare grand or so, yikes! smithy
-
my zed is poorly !!
Anywhere from free to to a couple hundred quid as there so many available, usually. Just make you any second hand one can be heard and used on a zed and then serviced before fitting. smithy

pcv valves
Yer done well to get that done so quick mate, but was it a recon, new or second hand unit, in short you know it was a good un? and when the old one was off was it fooked? Whilst PCV valves cause smoke, it generally isn't excessive. If the valves rattle when shaken it usually means they okay, if they don't then they could be blocked and knackered. With you saying the turbo's boost so well, do you know how much boost the car was running before and even after you bought it? smithy

Had many trick or treaters?
Heard the doorbell ring and thought christ it's hallowean, it's bound to be the ex wife! thankfully a couple of young kiddies all dressed up, but the likeness was uncanny i must confess, stick 30 years on either of them and i would never have known for sure, 1 of my girls sleeping over for the night was even shocked when she came to the door! smithy

Done a bit more
Nice work mate and is gonna be top bannana when done which you'll love. I must confess when it was suggested that all mine was blended in i was kinda hmm i dunno, but once done it now looks like it came out the factory with a subtle body kit already attached to it. Also a lot comes down to what colour paint you use as to how much it all stands out, obviously with mine being black, it all looks kinda slimmer lol The previous look made it stand out that the skirts are stuck on and also quite bulky too. No issues with mine and been over a year! http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=1328191&postcount=24 smithy

ffs *Bumper off UPDATE*
Just take it to a local body shop and ask them to straighten and pull what they can and you tidy up the rest. To them with the correct tools a couple of hours or a 100 quid at best, makes it a cheap job and no fannying around wondering whats best or isn't and the hardest part is done for yer too. smithy

stock engine rebuild
Not sure on costs, but contact Jimmer on here as he's done sooooo many rebuilds on Zeds now, he's gotta be top dog! Unless your chasing big power gains which does seriously cost, just go for a basic rebuild with new pistons, big ends, oil pump, cam belt and water by pass and job's a goodun :-) smithy

recomended engine mods
Yep thats a pretty decent one mate and not a bad price either. smithy

How much is a zed worth in bits?
Christ am just impressed the guy selling the white one had all his work done at Ztech and has all the receipts for it and it's even still going :tongue_smilie: Stick with what yer got an spend a few pennies on it mate. smithy

Fingers crossed....
All that said though, like any second hand part, it can last or it won't. If funds are tight, personally i'd take a gamble on a known "noise free" second hand box. They should be sold these days for peanuts as no basta*d wants em.! Once in your hand, clean out and filter/oil swap and then it's just the cost of a box swap, couple hundred bucks? I'd keep an eye out now ready in case a known quiet box appears for sale and buy it in ready and prep it ready to be fitted once yours packs in. Oh any garage could do the swap for you too. Smithy

Trouble starting from cold
You don't need a conzult to do the basic error code check that daves-zed posted the link to, so do that 1st it's only 10 mins. What plugs did you fit? Did it start fine before you changed the ECU and plugs? Does the AFC have a small sub loom with it so that if you unplug the main harness, you then join the sub harness so as to do away with the AFC all together? Am always weary when peeps buy a motor and it has gadgets fitted, they fiddle with the knobs and before yer know it problems start. IMO they should be set up by a garage and left alone thereafter lol smithy

Induction kit advice please
The actual design is very good and the original kit that this is copied from was produced by HKS many years ago and it performed well, but that was because HKS filters were used and they are quite good anyways. Think the HKS version is around 4 times more expensive! The downside of the ebay kit is the filters are absolute garbish, the idea is of course having 2 filters will suck in more air than 1, which is true if the filters are any good to begin with. If you stuck 2 apexi's on the end then yes a good job's done, I run 2 apexi's in a very similar design and very pleased with it. Think you find those filters on their own on ebay for around a tenner, so that tells you how shite they are... smithy
