  1. True, it would be easier lol there are no marks or evidence of scoring on the cam lobes, there are several lifters with a circular indent and three that have the end of a cam lobe indent ie a definitive line in the centre. So the indents and lines will make the lifters tap, but they would have to be all totally empty of oil or shot to create the rattle noise i was hearing from that bank. The oil was black and gunky and did notice a lump/clot come out of an oil way, when i directed the air blower through the tiny hole in the cam carrier, so i do feel that there was oil starvation, i would also expect to see something really obvious, damage wise, however i guess if the head was running lets say, with no oil then it would clatter, metal to metal. Thats my assumption so far anyway :thumbup1:
  2. I would pull the engine next time, far quicker lol
  3. Also worth mentioning as Lee Evans said in his tour brochure, people come to a show to see a specific comedian as they have seen them on the TV and are a known entity and have grown to like them and know what to expect. Ive worked on a corporate function with John Bishop and Jimmy Carr and although very funny in their own right, struggle a little with a corporate audience, ie Joe public that havent specifically come to see them, whereas stick them in a paying show situation, where everyone in the audience is there specifically to see you, then you are already half way there to a great show. By the way Jimmy Carr is the same off stage as he is on it and a nice guy, John was a miserable **** off stage lol
  4. Could be detonation/pinking, have you done a knock sensor bypass or checked for codes?
  5. I think any real pro comedian will be a good show as they have honed their art and are tried and tested, Micky Flanagan is another fav of mine too :thumbup1:
  6. Ive got the drivers head off the other day and have now completely stripped it, including valve stem seals. I notice on some lifter there is a slight indent in the top, which would give me some tapping, but nothing like the sound it was making, there is nothing obvious in the head as to why it was making so much noise. The oil ways were pretty gunked and have cleaned them out and given them a blow through with the air compressor. Im going to put new stem seals, valves and cams off a spare head, to eliminate anything mechanical head wise, im hoping now it wasnt bottom end lol, but the clattering seemed high up, ie a head and i dont think piston slap would make that noise either, but time will tell when i put it back together.
  7. Cheers Jason, might not make it yet, depends on how my engine rebuild is going, bit slow at the moment, taken hours stripping the head and cleaning it all, one more to do lol
  8. Feel for you mate, ive just taken out my valve stem seals with the head off and i have to say its a real pain in the ass with the head off, let alone still in the car, you are not going to get the valve collets back in place without some sort of spring compressor. I know you can get the top mounting one, but it would depend on how much room there is to hold the valve and insert the collets. Leak down test as you say before you make that decision.
  9. Bloody hell mate, not much luck recently eh, im sure if its just the leg it can be sorted quite cheap, but you would need to get it all checked to see if its a viable repair or as you say break it. Hope its not too bad for you (fingers crossed)
  10. There is no body control module, so check the fuses in the footwell for the lights and stereo. Air con comes on when in D, sounds like the aacv isnt coming on by itself to raise the revs when the air con is switched on, again check the fuse in the engine bay and footwell.
  11. As above both the same :thumbup1:
  12. Have fun Mark, Aberdovey is a lovely place and a good choice to stay over night
  13. Thanks to all, had a really nice day
  14. First thing to do is to check all the injector connectors and temp sender for corrosion/green oxidisation. Could be the ecu is not reading the air to fuel ratio due to a bad connection, also check the maf plug. Ideally getting the car plugged into consult or scantech to check for voltages.
  15. Cheers guys and yes Paul, its that time again, not getting any younger lol
  16. Happy Birthday Paul, have a great day
  17. A mirrored selfie lol, got to be careful of those  Look smart though Lee, started to take mine apart and found all the screws which hold the rubber seal rusted to buggery:thumbdown:
  18. Was a great day out Gary, we went early afternoon and did some shopping, couple of pints then dinner at Harry Ramsden and managed to pick up some new shagpile mats from Hellraiser at the same time, which Paul (300zedx) left with him at Beaulie for me :thumbup1:
  19. My brains like a sieve when it comes to remembering jokes, but there were some seriously funny moments, worth getting the new dvd if you dont get a chance t see this tour :thumbup1:
  20. No you wont be disappointed lol,, we were in row R on the upper balcony, if your seats are lower then you even better :thumbup1: Also parking not too pricey in the BIC car park, £4.50 for 4 hours
  21. Went to see Lee Evans last night at Bournemouth BIC on his new Monster tour, i have to say even better live, i guess you get the audience atmosphere by being there rather than on the TV, some great new material, just wish we could have been a bit closer, spent most of the night looking at the big screens on the side of the stage, so could have watched at home really, but seeing him live for the first time was well worth it and if you get the chance to see him live, i would highly recommend it
  22. The CAS is for injector pulses, not spark, thats controlled through the PTU, have you checked your ECU? I had an injector down and changed it, checked everything, then found a couple of pins at the injector side of the ecu burnt out on the board, i made a short pigtail with wire to re bridge the contact for that injector and now working.
  23. Got the drivers head off and apart from a couple of sludgy journals there is nothing obvious as to why it was making a racket, a little play in some of the lifters, no marks on the cam lobes and finally a little movement in the pistons, which after some research is normal, ie slight back and forth movement by a few mm not up and down lol
  24. Cat temp sensors, bin the lot and never worry about it again, no codes no effects on anything else
