Autobox, only got 1st and 2nd
I agree 100% Mark but its down to profit so thats why they rebuilt it to cost rather than a full overhaul with a years warranty, lets face it some cars hardly do any mileage from year to year so they aint gonna fail within a short time (or hopefully shouldnt), some people use their cars every day and more than likely will fail. As I mentioned before I work on the buses and had a year with a ZF Franchised dealer where the boxes were overhauled then testrigged to check the clutches etc and they were given a 3 year warranty at the end of it, so it costs the franchise to repair anything so thats why they were properly done. My manager started to get grief because the mark up was tight in some cases when a box needed a lot to repair it to service exchange spec. Other companies who overhauled them to a cost would only offer 1 year and some of the boxes were in and out like a yoyo getting fault after fault repaired and more than likely would be completely fooked after like 18 months but were slightly cheaper than ours.. The old story is people out trying to make a quick buck from other people with shoddy repairs. My 2p's worth. cheers John

Autobox, only got 1st and 2nd
Surely there must be pressure checks that can be done, anyone got any info on this as it seems a lot of work and expense to go through if its maybee a solenoid at fault. Maybee a solenoid is ok electrically but mechanically its fooked so it wouldnt show up with a diagnostic check. Cheers John

Autobox, only got 1st and 2nd
Yikes...I see where you are coming from with that. Yer caught between the devil and the deep blue see......costa lot to fix and loose a lot to sell......either way loosing money. I work on auto boxes on the commercials but sorry to say I dont have a scooby with cars but it does sound electrical to me rather than terminal but I might (and probably will be) wrong. Cheers John

Autobox, only got 1st and 2nd
Could it not be a faulty speed sensor in the box rather than a clutch. If a clutch goes then it will try and select then slip its nuts off. Cheers John

Autobox, only got 1st and 2nd
When you say it doesnt change up, what exactly happens? Mine is fine in 1st and 2nd then when 3rd is selected it slips but does speed up (eventually) until I let my foot off a bit and overdrive is engaged and it seems fine. Also I noticed when in 4th and I let my foot off the accelerator then back on I get like 'slack' being taken up. I reacon my box is cream crackered as i've dropped the sump and fitted a new strainer, the old one being clear and unblocked. Possible the box in mine has just worn oot a clutch. With yours you say it stays in 2nd, does it go to 3rd and not drive or does it 'hold' 2nd? Cheers John

Overfuelling.....OH NO!!!!!!
Contact Danny at DTA on here for CONZULT. Cant say a price though. Cheers John

Overfuelling.....OH NO!!!!!!
With the money you are gonna spend with Nissan, why not buy Datascan from Legrath or Conzult and check the car yourself, that way you have the tools and am sure plenty of people on here would keep you right with whatever option you bought. That way you dont get ripped off with SCAREY main dealer prices when on here there is more experience on these cars. Just my 2p's worth. Cheers John

Fitting aftermarket gauges
Colin I bought it 2nd hand from a forum member. I think he said it was from one of the traders on here (Smithy's....link at top rh of screen but I cant see the pipe for sale, maybee worth a pm to him). Cheers John

Fitting aftermarket gauges
Can you not get a brass adaptor to screw into the hole in the filter housing that will allow you to git the sender.....like a step up adaptor thats bigger than the hole . Nothings ever simple. Cheers John

Fitting aftermarket gauges
Colin Looks like you have won a watch with regards somewhere to fit an extra oil pressure sensor. I had planned an oil pressure/boost/coolant temp gauge combination. Boost is easy to plumb in, coolant temp I ended up buying a aftermarket top rad hose which has 2 sections of silicone hosing and a metal chromed pipe with a threaded adaptor for the sensor, oil pressure I had a sandwich plate made by AC Autotechnics (same manufacturer of the gauges I have) which listed it for Nissan but doesnt fit the 300. I ended up fitting a Voltmeter so I havent got an oil pressure gauge in my pillar pod. I'll get some pics later on tonight if it helps. Running wires/piping into the car isnt a problem either, just follow the cable from the bonnet release catch to the bulkhead and go through that gromet. HTH Cheers John Crisp

Overfuelling.....OH NO!!!!!!
Are you gonna be in Glasgow anytime. I have Datascan on my works laptop, if you are gonna be through I could arrange to meet you somewhere and hook it up to see if we can see anything. My O2 sensors are both faulty and can be seen quite clearly. Give me a shout either way. Cheers John

boost leak part 2
Can you here a whistling noise when you kick the car, if so you have a boost leak. The boost on mine is slightly low, since I fitted my aftermarket gauge it does correspond to the standard gauge, my car boosts to just above 5 psi and I can hear a whistle when its kicked. Cheers John

new pics of wheels
Lookin good Sandy, amazing how different the cars look with a change of wheels. Cheers John

install gauges
I've just installed a boost, water temp and voltmeter without too much grief in a pillar pod. I was gonna fit an oil pressure gauge but couldnt be arsed trying to source a sender then fitting it, so I bought a Voltmeter. I bought a 2nd hand top water pipe which had an adaptor for the water sender, then ran the wire through the bulkhead at the bonnet cable gromet. Boost gauge was similar (pipe ran from engine through gromet hole as before, voltmeter just a feed/earth/light feed. I took my ignition feed from the clock plug, light feed from there also and earthed it on the bulkhead, quite straightforward really. If you want any more info give me a shout. Cheers John Crisp

Hi New 300 Owner
I have seen a grey 300 a few weeks ago turning at Glenburn filling station. There was a red one I think as well but that was ages ago. We had a mini meet last year at the ten pin bowling but there were only 3 of us there but nothing planned as of yet. Cheers John
