  1. that really does look fantastic. i dont really like the blended swage line look usually but with the wide arch and the door handle removal it looks suberb, really raising the bar here and making it real hard for any of us with projects on to better that. thats a good thing by the way. that paint job must have cost a fortune, wish i could afford someone to do that on mine.
  2. sometimes it can be a little easyer to tighten the nut up a bit more to crack it off then undo it
  3. gone through on a spot on my bonnet too. im on pure black 2k though so a repair is super easy. looks fantastic mate
  4. Thanks alot guys, it really does mean alot to me to have the encouragement to carry on and obviously some other really good builds going on at the moment to try to push the standards higher and higher. been doing a fair bit the last week just not updated the thread so ill get some more pics up later. im really looking forward to the installment where i start to fit the new s style skirts from carmad:wink: hope you guys like shiny suspension
  5. That looks fantastic mate, ive got a soft spot for matt/satin black. nice wheels too, r32 gtr?
  6. I managed to find a guide the other day that showed photos of all different engine bay shots/ under arches etc i think it was the Australian forum but not sure. its not the one in our faq though. i need a photo of the layout of the pas hoses on the crossmember, can anyone help
  7. love the wheels mate, not to keen on the graphics though, but that is a personal taste thing
  8. i removed mine and it was indeed a right pain in the butt
  9. "btw... for your wheels, do you mean bbs lm or the nismo lmgt4? either way would be good for me mind..." ops meant the bbs lms but i do like the nismo, better suited to a 200sx though imho skyline running gear would be nice but might take away some of its 300zxness
  10. as it says given a generous budget what would be your perfect zed to start it off here is mine swb targa no body mods really, all exterior bits like spoiler, antenna, rear wiper removed escort racing front bumper, twinz rear, very subtle skirts. painted gloss black body dipped and coated to stop all rust wheels- 18" bbs lm gt4 9" front 11" rear engine- would have to be a v8, probably a twin turbo vq45 or chevy ls7 and a nice 6 speed transmission. suspension- nitron coilovers fully adjustable arms etc all chromed/painted. new bolts everywhere. fully setup by a pro of course interior- recaros in black leather/gray alcantara with dash trimmed to suit including entire dash recovered in leather with gray stitching and all plastic repainted piano black. nice carputer install other bits- racelogic, emerald ecu Thats about it, my car will be arount half way there by the end of my restoration but it would take an easy 30k to do what i really wanted
  11. using the window setup would be fine i would have thought, my alarm (toad) has an extra module for this too
  12. i bought a new ish audi wing mirror to use but i didnt use it in the end. the ones i would really like are off the very latest audis, they are a thin strip, perhaps about 8mm wide that runs across the mirror and they look nice, ive painter my mirrors now though. might try to mount something very small under the mirror as a bit of a gesture
  13. good job mate, wish i had access to a lift to get on with the underside of mine
  14. to be honest i havent, and as they are about the same cost i will use a nissan belt when i put my motor back together, you do raise a good point about the markings though. i would be surprised if the gates was out though.
  15. just noticed, are you deleting the side repeaters, ive done this on my spare wing but not sure if i should do it or not as im unsure about where i would put the side repeater or if i would get away without them, 99 spec front btw. ps keep up the good work
  16. i feel for you sanding brother
  17. can anyone tell me what grommet type thing goes arount the two brake pipes where they drop down from the master cylinder and through the wheel arch into the brass block. i think this is going to get complicated putting all the correct clips etc back in the right places
  18. to be fair you cannot question the quality of gates belts either, always fitted these and always been top quality
  19. both seem ok, you get more for your money with the wolf but you would get good after sales service from machine mart
  20. most welders (except gas) are arc welders. the cheapest are stick welders which do sometimes get called arc welders. they are basically a consumable stick covered in a sort of flux/shield. you conect the earth to the work and move the stick to the work to strike an arc, molten metal from the stick then fuses with the work to form the weld. stick welding is fine for thick metal but no good on thin bodywork. next up is the mig (metal inert gas) using the same principle a thin wire is fed by a motor into the weld (the wire is live) to form an arc and provide material. at the same time a shield gas usually an argon co2 mix (for steel) is fed around the weld area through the torch to stop the molten metal from oxydising and burning. its easy, quick and quite cheap. around £150 should but you a basic machine from machine mart but you will benefit from spending a bit more especially if you want to weld thicker material. better still is the tig welder (tungsten inert gas) this uses a tungsten tipped electrode to strike an arc between the torch and the work piece again within a shielding gas, you then have to feed in the extra material by hand controling the arc with the torch and a foot control for current. its much harder and quite similar to gas welding. however it will give a much neater weld, is more suitable for materials like aluminium and gives you much better control on thin material like car body panels. cost is higher though at about £500 for a basic setup. this is only scratching the surface, the best thing you can do is buy the best mig you can afford and practice on lots of scrap bits of steel before you weld your car.
  21. unlike a more modern turbocharged engine the ecu does not really control boost pressure, but as said its needed really if you are going to up the boost which costs almost nothing
  22. i have a decent high quality one that may be for sale
  23. nice, there is a real nice blue one in japan, cant find the link though
  24. hope so mate, going to cost a fortune in the little finishing touches, just spent £40 on new bonnet stops and hinge covers
  25. would love an old zed, ideally a 260 2 seater, rolling shell would be ideal. would have to be a bit af a dog as my plans would not be good for a mint one. fully restore the shell, nice gloss black with the chrome would look stunning. oh and id want to fit an rb26 plus z32 running gear
