update on my swb restoration
as promised here are a few more pics of my work ive had real trouble getting out to the garage and being inspired to do anything but in the last week i have seem to have found some enthusiasm, im sure its the weather. work still continues on the front suspension and engine bay, im hoping to have it down on the front wheels soon though. im nearly there with the brakes now though, made up a trial adaptor to fit my brand new brembos and the largest disks i dared to squeeze under my 17's lookes a bit like this not alot of clearance between the rim and caliper as you can see here is the new disks compared to the old stock items, they are 345mm just getting some plate plasma cut at work so i can make the real adapters with a few slight tweaks, i will just need to tap them and get them plated while i was at it i also did a quick check of the stance, wheels are looking quite flush but i will make up hubcentric spacer to bring them out a further 20mm or so, the wheels are 9" et40 so 20 should bring them about bang on also cleaned up one of the side mounts, the only thing left to do here is the washer pump. here is a quick shot of the cross member, most bits done, just need to sort out the pas return pipe. the radiator looks a bit grim but my new japspeed one turned up today so ill post up some pics once i fit it tomorrow. finally a very blurry pic of the counter sunk strut top bolts, they are usually studs but i think thats going to look a bit crap so im adapting my tein pillow ball top mounts tomorrow ill trial fit the rad and take some pics of my newly reconditioned front hubs

Does my bushes need replaced?
that bush looks ok to me actually, they are supposed to have that hole in them. its the shock mounting bush so a bit of compliance in it is a good thing and will not effect handling

Freshly re-painted Z & New Rota GTR Rims
looks fantastic mate love the rims, the bronze suits the silver very well. i like the carbon on the door pillars but not so keen on the rear strip and roof. I think gloss would look better, but thats just my opinion:thumbup1:

did you replace the torque converter at the same time? were the cooler lines to the rad flushed? has it ever reversed with the new box in, just trying to get a better picture

Help Needed please
sounds like your thermostat is stuck open to me. if its stuck fully open then the engine will not get up to full temperature in this weather, also if the engine is not up to full working temperature the engine temp sensor (blue i think) will be telling the ecu that the engine is not warmed up yet and will be injecting lots of extra fuel accordingly

Engine rebuild kit?
i would be surprised if the oil pump actually failed, they are driven directly off the crank. the oil pressure sender wears internally in the usual operating zone and ends up showing zero, the shaking is more likely to be an injector/coil pack type problem.

Engine rebuild kit?
i know its hard to find that kind of money mate but these are not a 1950's a series. if you have lost oil pressure for any amount of time then a lot of the engine will be scrap. if you want to do it on the cheap your best option would be to buy a tested engine from zedworld. i cant help but feel that if you put all these new bit on you current engine as is you will just be disappointed.

Rest in pieces - 600zx
gutted for you mate, i know how hard it is to fund a car rebuild on an extremely tight budget. At the end of the day mate its only a car (i know your car must mean as much to you as mine does to me) and some times real life has to take priority. you have made a very hard decision to shelve it. just make sure you keep the dream alive though, so many project get shelved and never get finished. im sure you will get there, just think how many extra ideas you can have over the next few months to set you back even further:tongue_smilie: i needed you to slow down a bit anyway as your project was getting way to far ahead of mine. What do you think to this Z?
i understand what you are saying mate. a few years ago i bought the best zed i could afford, a typical 1500 quid ebay tt auto 2 + 2, it was a bit scruffy but basically sound. over the next year i did lots of odds and sods to sort out a few running issues and bought the bits for a manual conversion. last xmas i decided doing a bit of an overhaul and to fit the manual box, took engine out etc and found it had a bent chassis leg:mad2: it took me quite a while to decide what to do but in the end a rolling shell turned up at the right price, its a swb targa which was a manual tt from the factory, exactly what i had always wanted from the start. im now halfway through a full on nut and bolt restoration which i hope will be better than when it left the factory. i would have never been able to afford the car i hope to end up with. i know i have been able to do all the work myself and the long rebuild time has given me a chance to pick up all the bits i want at the right time but it sounds like you are able to do stuff yourself too. basically i think the point i am trying to make is that if you have the commitment to see it through then this is a great route to get the car you want, just make sure that the shell is the right one for you, a tt shell is a much easier option to start with unless you like chopping and welding and a good shell should be easy to come by if you are patient with the amount that are being broken at the moment. see my rebuild thread if you want some inspiration. Area below scuttle panel
the drains under the scuttle are very large and go straight into the wings, however the wiper motor lives under there, i have jet washed mine before but you need to make sure it doesn't flood, i put a plastic bag over the motor as well

slicktop project
those are just sexual!

slicktop project
looks sweet, i love the twinz rear bumper with the clean 99 spec look. i would love that bumper on my car but i dont think the gloss black on my car would really do it justice. my only quible, and dont take it in a bad way is that im not a big fan of the series 4 spoiler but that is just my opinion and it may well do you a few favors in terms of stability trying to get to those big numbers. What recaros are you going for, factory fit or newer after market type. oh and please keep us updated now that it has left Pete's capable hands. i wish i had the time/funds to push my project though this fast.

Japspeed hard pipes - fitting
if you were going to shorten them i would be very carefull, first off you dont want any sharp edges, secondly they should have a swage at each end, this is to stop the pipe from popping off, you would need to roll a new one

chrome servo
you can rotate the back plate (need to tap it round with a drift), it is even marked up with a rotation direction. then you can do the same with the diaphragm holder thingy. just left with the outer skin then all ready to polish up and chrome
