My gearbox is fine selecting all gears at lower speeds. However when you go to select 5th on the motorway at over about 80 you can feel it grating as it goes in. The clutch is quite stiff and bytes quite near the floor and you have to push it all the way down to engage gears, if I were a betting man I would say that it is probably a pressure plate problem. Question is this, would you say that this sounds like clutch or do you think it is in fact the gear box?. Also how do you check and top up the gearbox oil on these cars? thanks

...continuing with my interior retrim after having done the rear seats last week, i removed the passenger seat today and will hopefully make a start at re-doing that over the weekend. found some cool 7-year-old Jap drugs on the floor once i'd removed the seat - i wonder whether its just paracetomol or some quality £1m smack...

after being received from ChrisD :) i replaced my rotten old windscreen and targa trim with new ones (after saying in another thread how i'd rather use that spray-on black stuff instead of replacing it all, lol!) - pleasantly surprised how soft the new stuff is compared to the hardened crap you get from 20 years of weather. old crap: new bitz: looks so much better now (i spent ages trying to get the fit right and im still not quite happy with it :( ) its just the rubber around the windscreen, and around the side windows that lets it down now!

first job was to find the cause of losing coolant over a period of time - just when i thought my running temp had been sorted once and for all, i was sat in traffic about 5 mins into my journey home on thursday, and the a/market temp needle just shot up from 70C to about 110!! needless to say i got my priorities right and in this order: i) shat, ii) found an escape route out of the traffic and into fosse retail park. gladly i noticed the needle drop back to normal temp as i moved, so after kerb crawling for a moment, i took my chances and carried on with the drive back home. no real probs as even when sat at lights it only crept up to about half way (90ish C). the…

Finally put the car for MOT. the engine was last used properly December 08. ive taken the car out once for a 40 minute drive since. heres the emissions results..... how can i resolve this? o2 sensors are gone? or isit the fact that its been off the road for ages, and had a few boost leaks since back together (smoked, but now are all sorted) and just needs a good hard drive to clean itself?

Hi folks ive got myself a type 1 HKS turbo timer and just wanted to confirm what wires i need to link into in the dash. Ive had a look at the wiring diagrams and for the turbo timer i need RPM signal, Speed signal, Parking brake switch. On page 65 in the manual in the electrical section i think the wires i need are 22, 16 and 2 can anyone confirm this that has fitted these before. I have the Z32 harness from HKS so the power wires arent a problem Cheers http://www.300zx-twinturbo.com/cgi-bin/manual.cgi Marty

Hi all, this is my first post, registered yesterday an been doing a lot of reading. Right I've just bought a 300zx 2+2 off flea bay, and need some advice on it already lol, It needs to be taken for a MOT at some point, soon as Ive sorted out what appears to be a sticking valve or noisy tappets, it drives but if you give it too much throttle to soon, it sputters. the listing stated it had the wrong oil put in and needs an engine flush / oil & filter change to sort this out. Its had twin stainless steel exhausts put on that are decatted, as i need to take it for its MOT, its also got an induction kit on it, I'm not sure if I'm going to need to put some …

I've just acquired a Blitz SBC i-D II BC sans fitting instructions and wondered if there are any diagrams etc to assist with the installation? I know there is a guide for the greddy profec but it looks a bit dis-jointed and unclear as to the procedure. Any help is welcomed :-)

Hi all, I ordered a set of goodridge braided brake hoses that arrived in super quick time. When i tried to fit the hoses they were completely wrong for the car. They had no fixing points to fix them to the front strut which made them totally useless for the job. I decided to phone goodridge uk and was told by them to return the new and original hoses to them so that they could make them up to the right spec which have now arrived and are identical to the original hoses. I was just wondering if anyone else on the forum has come across this as goodridge now have a new part number for the correct hoses (ZZMB-01) …

My uncle has lent me a recovery Transit which has the bars on the back which raise two wheels off the ground. this option worked out really damn cheap for me and so will be using it to take 300zx to zedworld. as it is a rwd do i need to raise the rear instead or the front? last but not least if the Rear needs to be raised my ground clearance on the front bumper seems scary.... is it easy to remove front bumper? Thanks again team!

Is it ok to clean my brake callipers in my parts washer, using a 50/50 mix of paraffin and engine degreaser? I've tried using a brake cleaning spray but it's not getting it all off. I've got the nissan seal kit, so will be replacing all the seals. Just in case it matters.

Hi guys, just a quick question for some of you that are in the know.... Do KYB make a suspension kit that is only rear adjustable? Only reason i ask is that i've been offered a KYB suspension kit but the guy said he cant see any adjuster on the front shocks...so i'm guessing this isn't the AGX kit? Any help on this would be great... CheerZ, Sean.

Hello chaps, Just got my car back from having a major service. Drove for about 25 miles and pulled over to check evrything was ok. I noticed some minor wisps of steam coming from the back of the engine (around the windscreen wiper area). I was quite wary because I have previously had a split hose in a previous Zed after a service (though i couldnt see one here). I kept a close eye on the temperature gauge and finished my journey (another 25 miles) checking a couple of times again on the way. I didnt see any more steam and this morning on checking the radiator water level I dont seem to have lost any water. Is this something that needs further investiga…

Pleased as punch to announce my zed is back on the road after nearly 2 years off. Small rusting bits at the bottom rear of each sill turned out to mean a lot of metal and rust needed cutting out and inner sills, inner inner bit and the part of the heavy bit of floorpan needed doing one both sides. The place I use for MOTs is pretty thorough so I expected a fail on brake pipes and other stuff but no it was a pass with a few advisories on slight rust on some rear brake pipes and superficial rust near seat belt anchorages. I dread having to drop the rear subframe but I can see some pipes still have the green paint on them whereas others have started to rust a little. …

I was helping a friend replace his vacuum lines today (JAP TT) and we found some strange stuff lol. The solenoids on either side above the actuators that have three vacuum lines in each - are any of those lines meant to have restrictors in them!!! This is the Passenger side... :smash:
