A simple autobox replacement a couple of weeks go went wrong from the offset, the customer wanted to supply his own unit he had purchased on ebay and packed into his zed and set off . However with his limited gears the engine was revving high for the relative road speed and soon an additional problem with a leaking water pipe forced him to stop and call the AA, they dually recovered the car off to us the following day. However when we removed the replacement gearbox from the boot we were shocked how someone could sell a gearbox in such a bad state. All the external sensors where missing, as was the dipstick, the shift lever assembly, no torque convertor an…

No rush, but when i get to the next step in power upgrades, what is the best thing to do re turbos? Ive been told today, that a place can recon the turbos, to hybrid spec etc, for £300 each. Does that sound about right? What power/boost level would they be limited to? Cheers

Well after buying my 1990 Manual TT and having a lot of bother starting from cold etc. I'm contemplating trying to get the winter out of this engine (If she'll prove reliable enough to start through the winter) and making a visit to Zedworld for a replacement engine. Pretty annoyed to say the least after paying the money for it and it to turn out to be as unreliable (contrary to what the seller made it out to be) but the car has to last me roughly 4 years so I suppose it's a piece of mind as well to have a good engine in. To get to the point what I'm asking here is how much am I talking for an engine/fitting from Zedworld and I'd probably be looking down the lin…

I am rapidly loosing confidence in driving the Z. [1990 import TT auto]. It has been driving great for the last six months but now things are different. On Monday this week she cut out on a dual carriageway doing about 40mph I managed to coast into a lay-by. I turned the ignition off and it re started first time. I carefully drove the couple of miles home and it stalled on the approach to a roundabout. I eventually made it home with no more problems. I rechecked the likely loose connections I have seen mentioned on the site, cleaned the terminals etc. I have recently noticed gauges not working for a while and then suddenly coming back to life [oil pressure, boost a…

Can anyone who owns a 99 spec Z please post up the measurements/distance from the bottom of the rear window to the start of the foot/upright on the spoiler. I've bought a 99 spec spoiler from car.mad but am unsure of the exact place to fit (obviously on the boot) as I've never seen a 99 spec up close only in pics. I want to fit it as it would of come out of the factory. Thanks Matt

About a week ago i could happily wire a headunit and your standard 6x9 and door card speakers as you do, but now i wanted a sub and i wanted to know everything about them from wiring to peak performances and so on. I want a system which is above beginner and one where when cranked up i hit my comfortable sound threashold before it does. At first i was looking at this JVC sub 700 watts RMS, 2000 watts PEAK. http://www.jvcmobile.co.uk/product.php?pr=220 and i was going to use this amp to power it as everywhere ive looked says try and better the RMS wattage of your sub with your amp by up to 125%, and that peak isnt a neccesity. http://www.jvcmobile.co.u…

My new 99spec Spoiler arrived yesterday, thanks car.mad! I was going to wait until the spoiler had been painted before putting pics up but after giving it to the guy doing the spray work (who also sparyed my car in the summer) and listening to his comments I thought it would be only fair to put some pics up before the spray job to praise car.mad's work :) When I took it out of the packaging I thought it was a good job but when the guy spraying it told me he was over the moon with the product and said it was a very very good quality spoiler I was even happier :) He also told me that If I'm thinking of changing any other body parts (the cars not my own) …

It's not the first time I've posted on this, so just wondering what your thoughts are about this ongoing problem. The chaps at Zedworld fitted the driftworks total eliminator bar to get rid of the HICAS and I couldn't be happier with that. BUT the car just won't stay straight like it should. Let me explain - 1. High speed, i.e. fast, touch the brakes and it will snake all over the place, a bit spooky if I'm honest 2. A bit of judder under medium braking 3. At very low speed, it is sometimes pulling left and sometimes right, not a lot, but noticeably, the steering wheels turns by itself i.e. a quarter turn one way or the other Now, all wheels…

Thought this was worth a mention as seen a few now. Basically I guess its just a case of you get what you pay for. Have worked on a few cars with ebay I/C fitted where they have been a bit disappointing performance wise. Having investigated have found that the cores on the coolers are partially blinded by bad manufacturing processes so the pressure drop across them is huge. Had an extreme example recently helping out a member over the phone, car wouldn't rev over 1800rpm with no load as the core was so bad!! On top of that, if you pay £200 for a cooler that costs £800 from the likes of Pace then you can't expect to get the same performance, they're just badl…
