Hi, my engine on my N/A Zx has started making a light knock/ tapping sound. The sound is coming from the top passenger side of the engine under the plastic cover. Taps at tickover then goes when the engine is reved and returns for a moment when tickover returns. There is no noise at all during driving and doesnt effect performance in anyway. VVT springs has been a suggestion? how do i check these.

A routine whilst the owner waited job revealed more work as we removed covers etc, now this is not unusual but to leave the newly revealed issue we felt was a tad shortsighted. So the original job was to replace the two water hoses above the water pump as one had split, there was a slight show of wet oil at the cambelt cover edges, but when removed the amount was extream. The oil was dripping right through the area and was pooling in some areas where it could. As the owner was waiting we was able to show the oil leak in its full glory, unfortunately due to time and other constraints the owner requested the water leak be done with the oil issue to be dealt with l…

Ok typical job of propshaft vibration, in fact a particular acute one, however when we removed the prop we were surprised to see a recent centre support bearing, however a closer look revealed a little more..... over to you guys. Jeff TT

Is this correct, making reference to this Gumtree advert: http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/nissan-300zx-twin-turbo-manual-uk-spec-black-beauty-only-252-made-in-uk/89904894 Not sure where the info is from but thats pretty cool if its right. I've got one and had 3 UK manuals.

As I travelled back from slough down the back roads, a ferrari 360 came out of a juntion just infront of me. As he put his foot down i was expecting to wave good bye, but im pleased to say the zed kept up nicely....up to 25mph. In all seriousness, as we then drove on to a private road, i was on his tail right up to a tonne. Very pleased :)

Hi guys, Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. Driving along the motorway last week and everything is running nice, then while in 5th gear and relatively slow speed (50ish) I start accelerating and hear a slight pop and a little miss! It only happen once and then everything goes back to nice. It then happened again this week. Exactly the same situation, only at slow speed in top gear and trying to accelerate, then back to normal. I should probably have changed down, but it has never happened before and doesnt happen in any other gears  I have checked obvious things like leads connected etc. Could a sensor of some sort be on its way ou…

I've got an oil leak that seems to be comming from the front of the gearbox underneath. The oil leak has become worse over time. So now I might have a chance of finding it. Just now when I started the car up noticed that there where air comming from the small hole in front of the gearbox. Could this be caused by the seals between the engine and gearbox? I'm pretty sure air is not supposed to come out from the gearbox:whistling:

  9. I've been thinking about this for a while. As the tint is so dark there is a clear boundary between the front and rear of the car, which doesn't look right imo. I think they go well with the look I have at present with the dark wheels but I really want to change these to a lighter colour. Most probably silver with polished lip(very original I know!) or maybe white/gold with polished lip. But for now, what do you guys reckon on de tinting the windows?

Mmm.. well the latest breaker sold with a good engine but needs turbo`s was not well described it turns out, smoking like a b*tch and running only on 5 cylinders was a possibly a turbo issue but following further investigation today Jamie quickly established all was not as it should be.....oh well. Compression value of around 15psi on surprise, surprise cylinder 6! Jeff TT

  14. A have a spare rear centre panel I bought off ebay (cheap!) that appears to be a genuine nissan illuminated panel, as it came with a nissan inverter and on seperating the two parts it has a proper cut-out for the wiring connector etc.the reason I seperated the two parts was due to the fact the el sheet doesnt work and I want to replace it. Does anyone know of anywhere in the uk that can supply a new el sheet of the correct size (approx 50mm x 300mm) that illuminates red?.have looked on ebay but the el sheets on there arent the correct size.did find one from the states the right size but they dont ship to the uk! :( Any help or advice would be appreciated :)

My 300ZX shimmys between 50-70mph, I have had the wheels balanced twice now and installed spigot rings to my spacers. Any ideas? Could the tyres be out of shape? Could it be down to worn suspension components? Thanks, Dan

Right guys, as some of you may recall I have deleted the JDM parking mast from my bumper. I still have the button on the dash though obviously. Soooooo, i've been thinking!! As I mostly listen to music via my ipod/cd and hate the look of the raised aerial. Is it possible to rig this button up to raise/lower the aerial only when needed? i.e. when listening to the radio. As you know i'm a dumbass so it's probably a stupid idea and impossible, but thought i'd ask you clever lot on here. If it is possible surely it is a genius idea :innocent::yinyang: Any help/advice greatly appreciated

Hello, I'm Rob (New member) I understand that this is mainly a Z32 site, but it seems some of you have or have had a Z31. My problem is: I discovered that the sidelights have been moved to a toggle switch on the dash by a previous owner . This is because the stalk does not put the side-lighs on, just clicks round to headlights. I was willing to live with that until I could get it sorted, but I tried the full-beam, left works, but the right one is out. I checked the fuses and the right light fuse seems to have gone. (this is where it get weird.) I took the RH fuse out and the headlights still work ! I would like to get the stalk wo…
