I've done some painting with satin black rattle cans. It's been dry for a while but seems a bit delicate, it gets marked a bit to easily. Would you expect this and is a laquer coat normal/required? Cheers

Started my car up today to move it for the winter. Car runs fine but is very tappety. Since the engine came out of my old jdm and hasn't been run for any length of time since jan 2009, I kind of expected it to be like this. I feel pretty confident that once she's got a couple of hundred miles done the noise will reduce a lot. However if it doesn't. How hard is it to change the lifters? Can it be done in the car or would I need to pull the engine. What's involved? I'm assuming plenum off, rocker covers off etc. I've never done any internal engine work but I'm fairly handy with the spanners. Engine runs lovely (fair bit of white exhaust smelling smoke, whic…

i am well versed in launching the manual TT when the need arrises ..but my big 4x4 is an Auto V8 5.5 amg and no matter how hard i try from the lights i can not get it to launch with any revs built on.....i stand on the brake and and build the revs but it just goes forward Against the brake the brakes are spot on so i knwo its not them.....i would have thought the tourque convertor would allow some slip to enable a build up of revs ......its not that i need to launch it as even in D for do it without using the manual option it will crack 60 in about 6 seconds .....but if i need to ......what am i doing wrong ???

been playing with my zed today, my thoughts were its going to the scrap man anyway, might as well try a few things id have never done to it whilst it was whole. and well im set on keeping it now, im just going to tone down the engine rebuild a bit. kinda inspired by slick petes efforts, but i want to make a road legal track day car out of it, so i cant be quite so extreme, and unfortunately its a LWB Targa to start with. my mate has measured it up for a roll cage, and our engineering shop are playing with an old set of roofs to see if they can fabricate a metal targa. well wondering what else can be removed and keep the zed road legal? i've removed the sea…

Nothing you guys haven't seen before but I started to detail my engine bay today, it's going to be a long arsed process! Did Nissan do some kinda rust preventer from new? Cos the engine bay is covered in a kind of wax oil stuff all round the inner wings etc... Not really a bad thing but doesn't look to clever when it's just sitting on painted metal :-) Anyway, couple of pics. Good weekend so far everyone?

I have removed my turbos off the engine today ready to send off to be refurbed. I have a standard pair of auto ones off the breaker I had, which we were going to use to get refurbed then put on my car, but company I am using said could not do auto tubs!!! I thought there was a physical difference between auto and manwell tubs, but as the pictures show these look identical!! My 2 are on the right the one off my breaker is on the left.

Hi got a problem with my zed when I put my foot down it seems when it's trying to boost higher at around 5000rpm and cuts out loses all power, i know it's been uprated and previous owner reckons its pushing around 500bhp and was sitting for 3years when I bought it I've had two people say its either the boost is set too high or the fuel pumps not adequate but have read it could be something to do with the maf any ideas what it could be would be appreciated thanks

Just jumped in the car to drive to my girlfriends in the (extreme) cold. Turned the key, all warning lights came on then there was a "click" and now no lights come on at all and there's no turnover from the engine. The immobiliser light still seems to work - this was fitted aftermarket so I assume the battery is charged (it was full yesterday when I was driving - I've got a battery indicator gauge). Any ideas what it might be? My firstthoughtswere obviously a fuse but I'm not sure which one to replace first in which box - help!!

Well its been a long time going since i posted up about my zed so with some good news i'd thought i'd best do it. My zed's been off the road now since mid march and over the last four month i've struggled to get by and at a few stages i even nearly gave up completely. At the start of the year i had ordered my driftworks rear hicas bypass which started all my issues when i couldn't prise the ball joint off the knuckle or hub carrier as some of you call it; after trying multple methods i took it to a local engineering works who took a burner too it and slowly pushed them out with some burny hot heat. Problem is they also managed to melt the aluminuim en…

turn lights on side lights all is good, go to full beam drivers goes on but passengers dosent, flash full beam both come on. have checked bulbs as in changing drivers for passengers and still the same, both bulbs are working. have run a live feed from the drivers to the passengers and they both work. Is this relay related, anyway of checking if the relay is doing what it should, i take it its the relays in the large fuse box one black and one blue i think??

I mentioned in a recent thread that my wheels were with a company to be refurbished. Per title, the wheels are made by 'Work' who I understand are a Japanese manufacturer. They are 18" aluminium split rims, the centre caps carry the initials, 'VS' I went to collect them the other day and was very pleased with the job the guys had done, centres powder coated in anthracite with 'chrome' powder coated rims. I got talking with the owner who appeared very knowledgeable and he stated that this model was initially sold by the company as a three piece split rim but subsequently sold, after factory welding, as a two piece. He then said that, to either replace …
