Hi guys, just sold my honda prelude and looking to buy a 300zx. I've got some questions for you: 1) Is there anyone who owned a prelude previously? How did it feel when you changed to the zx? 2) Is there any space at the back seats for an adult? Virtually no space with my prelude... 3) I was paying £1100 per year for my insurance. Is it likely that I have to pay more for the zx (I am 26, 6 years no claim bonus) 4) UK car or import? 5) Automatic or manual (never driven an automatic car - is it really boring?) 6) I am willing to spend up to 5k - will I get something decent? Any help will be appreciated...

Hi, I have a META alarm in my Z that's always worked fine. Last week the zappers that unlock the doors and deactivate the alarm stopping performing! I got into the car and was able to switch off the alarm by putting the zapper very close to the alarm control box. I've replaced the batteries in the zapper but this hasn't solved the problem. Can anyone suggest any thing else that maybe causing the problem. Would a problem with the car battery cause this (and the problem with my HICAS warning light - see other message). Cheers, Andy

Hi all, Ever since I replaced a front head light bulb at the weekend the HICAS warning light stays on for the first 5 minutes of driving the car. Coincidently the weather got very cold at the same time. Does anyone know why my warning light may be on? Is it dangerous to drive at the moment? Cheers, Andy

Very envious UK Z owners. Minister of finance here in ireland has just increased the road tax by 12%. Which now raises the road tax from €960 to €1075.20 peryear while a 3.1 car is nearly €1300/year. This is before our insurance costs. Reality has ceased to exist in Ireland.

Hi guys! I am going to look at a couple of 300zx TT's tomorrow, both imports. One has only been here for 2 months, both have about 45000 miles. I've done some digging around on various websites about spec differences, I've seen some stuff about different HICAS on Jap and Euro cars, different rim sizes, also the usual cruise control and speed limiter / speedo differences. What do I need to look for on an import? (especially the 2 month old car...) Will I need to spend a ruck of money on ecu mods for different fuel, plugs, speedo? Also, is there a way to safely check the origin of a recent import? I am a bit concerned about scare stories of imports via Dubai that were …

Following the incident that was reported on this forum with Emero and Ajay, I have spent most of the today in collating the facts and circumstance before and after and have conclude the following points. As reported on this forum Emero and Ajay were travelling along the M6 when a noise occurred from the rear of the car and the car then led to the right towards the centre barrier, Ajay was able to recover control and pull over to the hard shoulder and stop. A break down service was called who I understand diagnosed possible bearing failure. The car was recovered and further investigation showed the cause to be 4 of the 5 wheels studs had sheared on the ne…

Have posted this topic 6 months ago but am looking for feedback from veteran/specialist Z owners as I have finally decided to repair or do the conversion. Car wont drop from 2nd to third gear. took it to local mechanic who seemed baffled. Can anyone pinpoint the problem for me . Is it a known problem on Zeds. Its a 94 SWB TT Slicktop. 45 K miles. Gearbox flush done no diagnostic faults from auto gearbox or ecu diagnostic. The 194 page Automatic transmission section of the Z online manual in only confusing me more Any help appreciated. Roy

So I've had my Zed 2 months now, but the speedo hasn't worked since I bought it.. Nevermind- I'm a driving instructor, I spend all day on the road, thought I was a pretty good judge when it came to speed, and I am unless I am driving a Zed. How wrong was I. :o :o Took it for a spin after putting replacement s/hand speedo in and had a severe shock. S**t I was going that fast!!!! Drove my good mates Subaru on the open road on the weekend, gave it a good thrashing- out and out power in every gear, pretty much in the back of your seat. Put the Zed along side it, put it through its paces and Subaru driver was not smiling. Yet if you didn't look at t…

For the last week , from a cold start, for the first mile or two, my 96TT makes an intermittent definate dry bearing noise (a quiet squeal really) from the transmission area. Seems to disapear when clutch pedal is pushed down. Once warmed up it is fine all day. Is this what knackered thrust bearings do? Is the clutch bearing on the way out? At idle it can be heard very quietly rumbling. The clutch is original and has done 45,000M Any advice appreciated. My local main dealer has quoted £536 all in. Is this reasonable?

Wonder if anyone can help? Bought one of those antifreeze testers today from my local car accessory shop, the only trouble is after reading the instructions on the back,I am still none the wiser! It's made by Carpoint and looks like a glass tube with a thermometer in it and a rubber bulb on the end. I understand the bit about getting the coolant into the tube but the readings on the meter,I haven't a clue!! Cheers, F.T.

Ok, so i've make the mistake of straying from my Nissan roots and bought a WRX Impreza a few months ago. I hate it and want to move back to Nissan and get myself a 300ZX. I've heard some horror stories about running costs for the 300 as well as expensive engine rebuilds required at 80k miles. Anyone got some good advice on what to look for in a 300ZX TT? Anyone owned a WRX and a 300zx TT and can give me a comparison or running costs etc? I'm looking to spend about 6K on the car, what can i expect for that? Any advice would be very much appreciated.
