General Discussions - 300ZX Related

Hi All, Driven to work in my Z for the first time in two weeks today. All is well apart from a dreadful noise - seems to come from the front drivers wheel arch area - sounds like something rubbing/catching, the sort of sound you might get if the wheel arch liner was rubbing the wheel. I've checked and it isn't. Funny thing is it stops when I turn the aircon off...!? Any ideas? Aircon pump? Belt has been recently changed...maybe needs tightening? No squeal just a loud scraping noise - very loud with window down... Any advice appreciated as always. RobH

Anyone know of where i can source a race spec/uprated sump,have seen a few for the 240,260,280 Zs,surley there must be one some place somewhere,any ideas;) Tony

Lymon ...many thanks for the info re running rich - I did as you recommended and the MOT went perfect. HC recorded 297, CO 1.77, CO2 13.8, o2 0.03 and 0.94 on the lambda. Both banks of cylinders recorded very similar readings. As mentioned earlier, that's without the AIVs. ...thanks again. cheerz Jack

lookin for a new exhaust for me jap swb tt zed. saw a silver zed with 5 inch twin pipes (one each side) that sounded awsome but i dont know what sort of pipes they were. i need a twin 4 or 5 inch system that sounds good but dont know where to get one from. also my car has a cat and theres a real bad rattling noise comming from it what do i do :confused: :dance: :dance: :dance:

Hi, I am getting my Zed from Japan in the next month or so and seeing I have only seen pics and an engineers report for the car I feel it would be wise to invest in a good lengthy warranty when it arrives to safeguard me against any wallet crushing repair bills! Does anyone know of any decent warranties out there and how much am I talking about having to shell out? I need one for a year at least, maybe two and it needs to be as comprehensive as possible with the parts covered. Cheers all, Justin.

Hi all My Zed is going into the body shop soon to have the small rust bit on the rear o/s wheel arch sorted. The garage chappie thinks I should have the whole car machine polished afterwards to renovate the paintwork, but I'm not too sure about this. I've heard bad things about the mop scraping or burning paintwork etc He has only seen the car when dirty, when I polished it with red Colour Magic followed by Super Resin Auto Glym it looked perfect. No flat bits or fading etc. Now it looks good after a simple wash and leather. Should I have this machine polish or do you think it would do more harm to the paintwork long term, like strip the protective laq…

Whilst wiring my stereo up today, i blew a fuse. Trouble is ive checked under the bonnet and none of the blade fuses appear gone. Also, the clock works fine, its just the stereo/neons and the volt meter that was wired to the stereo/and my amps etc. Does anyone know if there is nother fuse box somewhere else in the car? Its a j reg jap import non turbo (dont know if this makes a difference). Ive also checked the stereo/amp fuses and it aint them! Please help, otherwise the local autoelec bloke will be making a killing off me :( Cheers -Mike

There's 2 Zed tt's i'm looking at and i need help on which one i should buy...... 1. 1990/1 Red import, velour interior, auto, low miles 72000km's, nice condition but very little service history. 2. 1992 Grey UK car, Leather interior, auto, 90,000 miles, couple of very small car park dings, full nissan history upto 87500mls. When setting the TPS where exactly should you be sticking the multimeter probes. Has anyone got Info on this in straight forward english I am truing to follow the FAQ from Z32.ORG but am getting no change in voltage across A and B This is a brand new TPS Thanks Roy

I have tried asking this on the lexus forum, but not had very helpful replies, so can we just pretend I'm asking about a zed not a Soarer. I do have a zed though (honest), and I am a subscribed member, and because I know you lot are more technically savvy, I will trust the responses I get from here. I found an oil leak in the turbo oil outlet on my soarer, and had lost about a litre of oil through the outlet pipe. The engine started buzzing (I think from the turbo) more than usual and boost was lost. I had driven it for about 20 miles or so by this time. Will there have been any oil getting to the turbo? If oil pressure is reduced would that starve the turbo of …

Hi All, This may seem a bit wired but here goes. I recently got hold of my N/A imported ZX and I asked a friend of mine to install a Sony minidisc tuner. After that all electrical hell broke loose!! The main lights would only work on full beam the dash light would not light and to make matters worse the gear was locked in park unless I depressed the little plunger in front. We removed the Sony tuner then spent a day a half locating the fuses that controls the solenoid the releases the lock on the gear. We managed to get the lights functioning ok again. However the storey does not end there. When I put the car in drive it seems to go into third or fourt…

My alloy wheels need to be refurbished. 2 wheels keep slowly losing pressure which is not caused by punctures. I took it to my local tyre place and they said that the alloys are leaking round the rim. The tyres where taken off, the rims cleaned and the tyres resealed back on and they both still leak. Will refurbishing them help fix the problem? I have been told it would, but spending a few hundred on a refurbish is not what I want especially when I am saving up to get new wheels. Any one reckomend a good place to get them done? Stuart

can somebody tell me how to read the gearbox dipstick? might sound daft but its not very clear!! it has a hot square towards the bottom and a chevroned square higher up, if the oil is at the right level which square should it be in?? being at running temp.

I've noticed that there are tons of threads about which is better, manual or auto. But this question isn't quite about that (although its close). The general consensus seems to be that the auto has problems above 400-450 bhp. So what's the weak point? Is it just the torque converter or is there more to it? What needs upgrading to handle more power with the auto box? Oh - and should this be in help and advice or general discussion? :D

Noticed this on both my Z's and was wondering if it's a thing on all of them or just a problem on both mine (unlikely I'd have thought). Basically it's that on first press, the first bit of travel on the brake pedal dosen't do much, but if you release and then press again it's much better. Feels like the knock back that you can get from warped disks where it forces the pads away so you have to pump them back out. My disks are fine and it's a bit worse with R34 callipars, presumably as the pistons are bigger volume so need more fluid moved to contact the disk again? Any ideas?? Was thinking of putting residual pressure valves on the brake lines to hold a few PSI …

hi car judders realy bad under normal braking can only just hold onto the wheel brakes dont look that bad could it be a bush problem? steve :( :(

I know there are probably thousands of posts on this subject but I'm lazy;) So, it's probably about time I changed them (66k miles). Before I go and order everything I've one question: I understand why the valves need replacing but what's the deal with the hoses. Forgive my ignorance, but aren't they just hoses?:confused: Courtesy list the valves as service replacement items but do not mention hoses, hence my confusion:confused: Thanx

I am lost with the variety of tailpipes available for the stainless silencer I am having made for my 300. Is there any chance of some pics of different tailpipes on the variety of 300's on the forum, either as a reply to my post or e-mail to tottiegt4@yahoo.com. Ideally I want like a large bore maybee 5 inch tailpipe with the ned folded outwards but any pics appreciated. BTW 120 quid for a stainless silencer I think is quite good. Cheers guys John Crisp
