Morning all, My long suffering zed has been sat for 5 years after it overheated and cooked a head, in that time I had stripped down the existing engine to locate problem, once I realised how bad it was I sourced a 2nd hand engine off the forum, that's now in and hopefully ready to go. But it wont even turn over, Its got a decent battery on it, I've checked all the fuses, I can hear the fuel pump priming itself , It just wont turn over, The engine is free and rotates ok, The only issue I can think of would be the fact the clocks, dash etc are out of it because the matrix has been changed, would this cause an issue w…

Hopefully some of the zed experts can guide me here.. My zed has had a rattle since I got it, I'm out of ideas as too the cause now... It's running fine, but it rattles on overrun at the lower rev range, also low in revs under load it rattles up a low speed hill etc. Don't think it's the lifters, as one of my old zed's had them, and this is different, Had brand new timing belt, all pulleys and tensioners, no faults on consult, Thought it could have been vt springs, so just fitted new ones. Didn't seem weak, and we're getting oil, but Made little to no difference, I've checked the exhuast for leaks just in case, there's no heat shields…

Started thinking about traction control units- read some good things about the Racelogic Traction Control unit, but was wondering about other options. I remember reading about a unit a few years ago that patched into your ABS system and made it more of a posi-traction unit- if it detected wheelspin the controller would use the ABS actuator to bring that wheel into line with the others. So the Racelogic does it by cutting power, this other one did it by braking at the wheels. For race applications I guess the Racelogic would be better, but I think for crappy conditions (snow/ice/oil/rain) the other approach would be what I want. Problem is, I can't remember …

Ive got the drivers head off the other day and have now completely stripped it, including valve stem seals. I notice on some lifter there is a slight indent in the top, which would give me some tapping, but nothing like the sound it was making, there is nothing obvious in the head as to why it was making so much noise. The oil ways were pretty gunked and have cleaned them out and given them a blow through with the air compressor. Im going to put new stem seals, valves and cams off a spare head, to eliminate anything mechanical head wise, im hoping now it wasnt bottom end lol, but the clattering seemed high up, ie a head and i dont think piston slap would make tha…

I've had an on going issue with my zed now for some time. The issue is that it burns oil, to start with it grey wafts of it at idle and plumes of grey/blue between 2 and 3k it was honestly like a smoke machine, terrible. After a compression test revealing an average of 160 psi across all cylinders and no oil being ingested pre throttle body it was decided it was most likely the rear turbo oil seals, inspection revealed that a pool of oil was building up in the rear compressor housing then being pushed out when the airflow was sufficient. So these were rebuilt using staggered gap rear seals etc, the Pcv system was all replaced at this time too, with non oem Pcv valves and …

Bought myself what I thought was a reasonable manual n/a Zed that needed a little tidying. Was pretty standard when I bought it, had a few little rust bubbles just coming through here and there but nothing serious and easily sortable. Straight away I went out and bought a set of staggered 18" alloys as other originals just look too small, this I when I noticed something wasn't right. When turning, the drivers side tyre was rubbing the arch liner, didn't think much of it at first as had this issue on my first Zed and it was caused by the arch liner not fitted correctly. After investigating a couple of weeks ago, I found that liner was fine and that the wheel was si…

I just changed my JDM speedo cluster to another one and everything seems fine but my rev counter is idle at 2000 rpm rather than 1000 rpm. I went for a drive and still doesn't sit around 1000 rpm The new cluster has white dials in mph and think its a UK spec (could be wrong) but the speedo does match the speed in mph Can anyone help me as i have everything off and want to resolve this problem before putting it back together

Just went down local Nissan parts department (not the one I normally go to) and asked for a new oil filter and sump washer ... They gave me this stumpy looking thing, shorter than the ones I fit in the past. I questioned if it was genuinely compatible for a VG30DETT and the counter clerk said it was ... I'm a little suspicious though. Can anyone confirm it is suitable? Don't want to fit it and put new oil in only to find out it's going to give me pressure problems ... Box only lists compatible engines of under 1.6L and years 86-88. Cheers ~Tom

As an excuse to get out of going camping at the Greenbelt festival with the wife and kids this weekend, I decided to go on a road trip. I had planned to do this last year with my eldest daughter but couldn't afford it and as I now have my own company, decided to do it this year. Up until 10am this morning, was still undecided where to go a) east cost from the wash upwards b) North Yorkshire moors around Harkerside / Hawes / Richmond or c) north Welsh coast and then south. I decided on Wales so am now in a small hotel in Llandudno on the sea front. Took 5 hours to get here but once I left the main roads had a great time going through the country lanes gettin…

Hi All, I have the D2 Big brake kit on my Z, and I need some replacement discs (rotors to be correct!) as mine were flagged on the MOT. Does anyone know of a decent supplier ? I can find a few but they all include the bells, which I don't need or want to pay for :) Alternatively do any other manufactures rotors bolt up to these bells ? Thanks All, Regards, Simon

Hi, I thought i'd start a build thread as a log of the journey with my import Z. Afetr a horrible accident in my previous car i borrowed a budget amount for a run around, but as i was missing my previous pride and joy i was browsing piston heads to see what i could save for. As many people will understand the feeling when you click on to a site and see the car you've always dreamed of owning going for the same price you would puut done on a shitter. I was very sceptical but took the gamble. The car only had 43990 on the clock when i bought it with a few niggles. I got a history of previous mot's (some japanese so have no idea what they say lol) and was told the previou…

Hi guys and gals. I have a problem and I'm not sure as to the cure. When idle the engine has started revving and falling like it's searching for fuel. Has anybody else had this? Does anybody know a cure or have an idea what is happening? All suggestions will be noted. Thanx

Ok. Bottom Speedo clock is off a UK 1991 TT. Top one is my 1991/2 Jap clock in kph. Trying to swap the two, but there are obvious differences in the connections...also, you may notice that the centre connection on mine only has 2x pairs of double contacts, whereas the UK one has 2x pairs of 3 contacts. Can anyone advise on fitting?

Lovely videos of Steve Millen driving his No.75 300ZX at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion in California, July 19, 2014. From 1990 to 1995, Millen drove the Twin Turbo 300ZX . The car dominated the IMSA in its GTO, then later GTS categories due to its newly designed chassis and engine. Millen would rank as the #1 factory driver for Nissan for 7 years earning two GTS Driving and two GTS Manufacturer's Championships. The biggest win for the race Z32 was the victory in the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1994. In the same year at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 300ZX ranked 1st in the GTS-1 class and 5th overall. So I know there are a load of oil threads on here, but what is the oil of choice for a rebuilt motor? Obviously 10w-40 is the recommended oil from Nissan, but on a fresh motor after the initial 1st change of oil will a good 5w 40 be ok? (Awaits Slickpete)

Hi everyone Had this problem for a while now just wanted to pick some brains out there. I have this drip which is slowly filling up my passenger footwell as you can see from the picture the drip is appearing from the passenger kick panel to the left of the glove compartment. I've so far removed the glove compartment and the panel to the left and the kick panel check targa drain and also ran a hose off the roof but no leal appears have fitted new nylon window washer so window is tight up against door rubber . And I've also removed the left skuttle panel but still can't find this drip. Any other suggestions chaps?,
