Hi all, I'm sure this is a common problem with Z's, where for what ever reason the idle will just suddenly increase when the car is fully warmed up. I just want some input on reasons you have found for this and what can be checked out using a Conzult/Datascan. Boost leak - Boost Leak Detector Faulty temp sensor TPS voltage - Conzult Closed Throttle switch (should be on at idle) - Conzult Malfunctioning/sticky (IACV-)FICD valve - Conzult Malfunctioning/sticky IACV regulator - Needs to be checked manually Malfunctioning/sticky (IACV-)AAC valve - Conzult Cheers Vijay

I'm about to get my clutch changed as soon as the rps arrives from Smithy. I have also bought some phnw decat pipes to be fitted at the same time. My Z is an import, has done 63k miles and has stock turbos. I do have one leaky pcv valve that makes the drivers side pipe smoke for about 30sec on starting very very intermittantly. Other than that it has been running 14psi for a year no probs. Is there a way of decatting without running as much risk, ie putting in small boxes on the pipes to give some pressure (i decatted my rover and the replacement pipe had a box built into it)? No problems with that car at all. I have been told by at least 5 people that…

Noticed if Im driving car pretty hard then it takes a second or so before I can get into 2nd and 3rd gear (even then it can be longer) - sometimes it crunches even with clutch fully in. Heartstopping moment when I was overtaking a car, knew I had the power but when I was level I tried to get it into 3rd gear and couldnt get it in, couldnt get it into seconds either and another car was coming tomwards me. Crunched hard into 3rd and pulled in front. Sound like a synchro prob? Possibly low on gearbox fluid? Please tell me I dont need a new gearbox.

My Z started running in safety boost last night. Was running fine beforehand. No funny noises, no detonation sounds. Nothing seemed wrong after safety boost kicked in either. Any ideas? Quick fixes? Cheers, Chris

I am looking for some help as I am new to the world of the 300zx. I am looking to buy my first Z following taking a drive in my friends (Komarme) The trouble is looking around for insurance. I am 31 with full no claims and despite looking at only driving around 5000 miles per year policies are still coming out at £500+ Is there any advice on the best place to go for insurance? Also the UK vs import issue. Of all the insurance firms I have tried so far trying to insure a Jap Import puts around £200 on the premium  My friend assures me that the Jap models are better than the UK but does anybody out there with a UK model have a different view…

a little while after having the car de-catted it started to smoke, which i am told could be the pcv valves or the seals on the turbos. the question is , if i have something put back ie; cherry's, or some other inline boxes, will it stop the smoking or is it too late now?

All, Ignoring the overall diameter of new wheels for moment, is there any benefit to go wider on the front wheels? Standard as you know is 8" on the front, and I reckon I'll stick with that when ordering some new ones. The rear is a slightly different matter, where I indend to go 9" (or maybe 9.5"), but appreciate that with wider tyres, wet weather driving is likely to get the back end out more! Any thoughts on the above??

Ok, I changed the gearbox oil with silkolene Silktran Syn 5 to try and cure it but it has'nt, I have several problems with it. 1) at idle the gear box makes a noise in neutral, is this the release bearing or something worse 2) when depressing the clutch I get a rusty metal on metal type noise but its not the slave cylinder as I have lubed it 3) when changing from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd and back down I get a strange sound I can only describe as a honk but it's not goose honk and the gears are difficult to select especialy when trying to change quickly. Would this be the clutch just needs adjusting. Any comments please people and I hope it's not bad news :cry…

Nice motor from what i seen!

Needed to make a claim on my insurance for windscreen yesterday, MOT due in 3 weeks. Insured with Adrian Flux through the club. Only to find out today that the maximum ammount they will pay for is £500 and the windscreen costs over £1300!! What the hell do I do now? You lot had better check your policies as I am rather annoyed, but I guess you get what you pay for.
