  1. Hopefully you'll have better luck with this one than you've had previously.
  2. Is this another Auto box or have you gone manual this time? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ignore that... it's obviously an auto if you're putting ATF in it... Sorry, my bad!
  3. It’s interesting to see that a lot of people prefer the ‘moustache’. I’ve decided that I’m going to keep it (the moustache) as I think it looks better with something to break up and contrast with the silver. Also going to reconsider the colour, I may opt for a dark grey or anthracite as a few of you have suggested. Thanks for everyone’s input and suggestions. Lots of beautiful looking Zed’s here!:thumbup1:
  4. G’day all, Earlier today I collected some silver body panels from Bridgwater. This included a silver front bumper, which will eventually replace the black one that was fitted after my little mishap.:whistling: When I first purchased the car back in April, the bumper had been resprayed and the front fascia was silver – like the later model Zeds. I wasn’t a fan at first but it did grow on me. Now I’m in a position where I can choose to respray the whole bumper like this, or I can keep the black fascia. What are everyone’s thoughts? Do I keep the black trim?:confused1:
  5. I saw your car last time I popped into Powerzed. It’s looking good :thumbup1: Love the rear diffuser, did you order it from the states?
  6. Looking good. Did you manage to wrap the boot lid in one piece?
  7. Nice to see another Zed out and about.:thumbup1:
  8. I spotted this Zed on Friday 22 July at roughly 18:20. This was somewhere between junction 13 and 12 of the M4 heading towards Reading. I didn’t get a very good look at the car as I was too busy trying to find my phone to take a picture. One thing that did stand out was the red glow from the 300ZX logo.
  9. I’m inclined to agree with Chris on this one. If the car has been driven for a few miles with low ATF and with the symptoms described, then I don’t think topping up/renewing the fluid would save this box. If topping up the fluid did save it, then I can’t imagine the box would last much longer and I’d always be worried about putting my foot down in case that finished it off. If you can afford the manual conversion, then great. You’ll yourself the cost of replacing the box, to then fork out for the conversion later. Alternatively, I’d consider buying a replacement auto box and doing everything possible to ensure that it lasts as long as possible. I’d use the fluid here and do a complete ATF flush, also clean the magnets and strainer of any particles that could be clogging it up. I’m sure plenty of people would also recommend investing in a separate cooler… One way or another, I hope you get it sorted out. I’ve had my Zed on and off the road for months, the idea of it being parked up for a year sucks… On that note, is it worth considering the impact of it being parked up for ages will have on your other components. Would be a real shame if another fault were to develop because of it being parked up…
  10. I just realised what i said. :pinch: By saying "...or how long the bolts need to be." i did mean the nuts. I'd prefer to get the closed cap ones but don't know how long they'd need to be in order to fit down the length of the studs and make a nice tight contact - if that makes any sense...
  11. I’ve just picked up a set of OEM alloy wheels (courtesy of Jimmer) and I’m looking at replacing the wheel nuts. I currently have aftermarket alloys with ‘tuner’ style wheel nuts – the type that require a big Allen key to remove. I think they’ll look a bit out of place against the standard wheels and would prefer something a little more understated. Can anyone tell me what size wheel nuts I need to go with the standard wheels/studs? So far I’m to believe that I need M12x1.25 Thread with a 60-degree taper. I’m not sure if this is correct, or how long the bolts need to be. Finally, any suggestions where I can buy them from? Thanks
  12. Sorry to hear you’ve had such bad luck with the gearbox. Hope you’re able to get it back on the road sooner rather than later!
  13. I didn’t expect the speedo to be 100% accurate, didn’t think it would be out by as much as 10 kmh. Seems excessive (in my opinion…) Anyway, turns out I have bigger problems than my speedo… I was driving around yesterday when I noticed a knocking noise that was getting progressively louder. I quickly discovered that it was coming from my front nearside wheel. Went to jack up the car and take the wheel off when 3 of the wheel nuts came off in my hand. Needless to say, this didn’t put me in the best of moods.:cursing: Whilst examining the wheels I noticed that the fronts have been fitted with spacers/shims so that the wheel will clear the callipers. Now I don’t know a lot about this style of spacer, but what I have heard isn’t good. What was clear to me was that with the addition of the spacers, there wasn’t much thread on the studs for the nuts to grip onto… Given yesterday’s revelations I’ve come to the conclusion that wheels have got to go. I don't know if i'm being a little paranoid regarding the spacers and stud length, bug given that 3 wheel nuts were about to fall off, i'm not taking any chances.
  14. This is the thing that has me puzzled... Surely the OBD and speedo should show the same speed, regardless of the tyre/wheel size. As you say, they are both reading from the same source. The speedo has definitely been played around with as it lights up blue and has an 'mph' sticker in the middle of the dial. Despite the sticker, it definitely doesn't read in MPH! When I had the laptop plugged in I managed to check at numerous intervals between 20 and 80 kmh (50 mph). Every time I checked it was reading exactly 10 kmh lower.
  15. Haven't tried it with a GPS/sat nav. As for wheels, they're aftermarket running 235/45/17's all round. I know this would affect the accuracy of the speedo, but shouldn't the OBD port and speedo show the same thing?
  16. Evening all, Since owning my Zed I've been skeptical about the reeding I've been getting from my speedo. I went out for a spin earlier today with my laptop plugged into the OBD port. The laptop showed that my speed was consistently 10 kph lower than what the speedo was saying. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions, or advice on what to do to fix this (other than drive faster). Thanks
  17. If you're prepared to wait a bit I'd recommend the metal replacements made by Z1. Once it's done you don't need to worry about it going again!
  18. I didn’t think much of it at first, although it has grown on me. I still think a shorter gear knob with a leather ‘boot’ would look much nicer. Although I would certainly keep the Navan in case I decided to switch back to it later.
  19. Haven’t done it yet. Mainly due to a lack of time, money and effort on my part. I have an ever-increasing list of jobs I want to do to the car and the gear stick is rather low down as far as priorities are concerned. My car is fitted with the optional ‘Navan’ gear shift so I’d need to source a standard gear knob before I look at customising anything…
  20. That is a shame... Hypothetically though of course :whistling:. I was curious to find out if there was some mishap as a result of your modification. I’m planning to modify an auto shifter myself and was hoping to learn from others, such as yourself, who have already modified one.
  21. Just came across this advert on eBay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-300zx-fairlady-z-stereo-blanking-plate-300-zx-z32-/201613143422?hash=item2ef1146d7e:g:BegAAOSw3xJVW2i6 Here's another option, if you're into that sort of thing...
  22. Came across this bit of advice on a previous thread. :thumbup1:
  23. I’ve placed a few orders with Z Centre recently, each time I was stung with the £8.40 delivery charge. To be fair to Luke, I was able to call up and add stuff to a previous order before he dispatched it. However, I would certainly welcome a cheaper/slower option for times when I need to order non-essential bits!
  24. Every 90’s Japanese car I’ve come across has 2 DIN slots. Usually a cassette player & radio in one, and a CD player in the other. If you’re going to the trouble of fitting an aftermarket (and usually more modern) stereo, there’s not much point hanging onto whatever fills the other slot – unless you’re lucky enough to have a Bose setup, or something that wouldn’t look out of place next to a modern headunit.
  25. I had an old DIN pocket from when I previously replaced the stereo in an MR2, this didn't work as the screw holes on the pocket didn't line up with the zed brackets. On that basis I'd avoid a 'universal fit' pocket as there’s less chance of it lining up. In the end I purchased one on eBay from the following seller: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIN-Pocket-Tray-Nissan-Skyline-200-SX-Almera-Micra-S13-/230592900789?hash=item35b0686eb5:m:mNMoEsZw6OuqptvDZBxhLNg This lined up perfectly with the zed brackets, although I had to source my own self tapping screws. No cover or ‘flap/hinged door’ but it’s much better than a hole in the dash! Hope this helps!
