  1. To replace it with a secondhand autobox without provenence will be a waste of money, time and effort. Most boxes are now well over 15 years old and on most cars neglected, i.e., no oil change, or box serviced.......ever, until that is 'it starts playing up'. Your best bet and most financially economical is a manual conversion.
  2. Its your turbos, there on the way out.
  3. My first Zed had the function built into it with the full closure bit. It should not be difficult to work out. I would imagine a feed from the window fuction taken to the mirror switch should work fine.
  4. A problem with screen washer jets is that scale also builds up inside which then traps the crap as well. I took mine off and soaked them in some descaler, the stuff you would use on your kettle or iron, and the difference was unbelievable. It took the scale and the crap out and of course they are now less susceptible to blocking up again.:thumbup1:
  5. Sadly poor Jimmer has a virus and cannot be further than a couple of yards away from the loo. Unusual for him as he normally has the constitution of a goat. He is also running a temperature so it not just a dodgey curry thats laid him low. Get well soon mate.
  6. He's in and setup, so get in touch with Jimmer for your requirements.
  7. It does make a difference. I have a high capacity rad fitted and on track days the motor has alaways got a bit hot, 95 ish and sometimes higher. It certainly worried me as I know that these engines do not like high temperatures, the gaskets let go. I have just managed to fit my fan shroud, and straight away the temperature has dropped by about 15 degrees. It seems to concentrate the air. What maintenance does it make difficult ? you just take it off if it is in the way. To do anything on the front of the engine, it has to come off anyway, but for normal running it does make a BIG difference.
  8. Standard length for a LWB.
  9. What a stupid reply. The guy obviously has nothing to compare it with. As stated, one has 2 seats (SWB) and the other 4 (LWB).
  10. Whats wrong with the guy in Plymouth ? we have used them before. Is there a problem.?
  11. Xedy are good for standard power but not if Zed is modified. The RPS is fantastic but heavy on the old leg even with the booster. Not good for the lady drivers. Look at some of the paddle clutches, they are not expensive and take a hammering too.
  12. You shouldn't have any probs there Mickey, I think the rusty one shown in the pics is unusual especially on an import. My car has been in the country since 2003 and there was not any sign of rust when the spoiler was removed.
  13. Do you know what detonation sounds like ? because if you dont and your engine is doing it..............................it won't last long especially if you are driving it like you stole it. As stated here, Mines ECU have an aggressive map which requires 99 ron minimum. Don't say you didnt know.
  14. What colour is the smoke ? white/grey is turbos, blue is PCV/pistons, black is overfuelling. Is it one side more then the other ?
  15. The subframe has to be unbolted from the chassis and dropped so that it disconnects from the steering column after obviously undoing the knuckle joint and removing the bolt. This then allows the engine to come forward and off the gearbox spigot.
  16. I'd be up for that too.:thumbup1:
  17. No your not, and nor is Vince.:tt2:
  18. Blimey, thats a bit OTT. Why would you want that done ? a normal hot clean does the trick. If your still feeling flush cos it wont be cheap, there's a company that I have used to cryogenically clean armatures on marine generators in Southampton called Dowding & Mills. I'd be laying down when you call them tho'.
  19. It sounds as though you have a leak on your inlet / vacuum system which is generated via the plenum, which under normal running the engine copes with but as soon as you put extra demand on the system, i.e., braking, it causes the stall. I would check all pipes coming from the plenum right along their length to ensure none are perished, split or even just come off. It could also be your PCV valves needing replacing but this usually sends a few puffs of smoke out the back.
  20. The trouble is Dave, that engineering also requires a lot of maintenance which = a good toolkit which = time in the garage wearing overalls which = less time for other pursuits. I do love 'em tho'.:tt2:
  21. Yes, I geuss you are in the same boat regarding the car attracting attention but you are only 42 Dave, I didn't buy my first Zed until I was almost 60 and have enjoyed every moment of driving it. I still marvel at its looks and its performance and most of all the engineering thats gone into it. I love 'em. Its just that I do not know where to fix my pension book and bus pass holder  As you say 'enjoy it for what its worth'. I will not be making any quick decisions about selling but may just keep an eye open for something a bit more laid back. I'm glad that your Zed now appears to be sorted, they can be bitches at times. regards John
  22. Luckily I am very fit and do not have trouble getting in or out of the car. The main concern is that my Zed looks like it should belong to someone in their 20's/30's and not to a white haired pensioner. Perhaps I should tone down the exhaust and standardise the car to look less noticeable, dye my hair and get a baseball cap and designer shades. Its a thought.
  23. I have owned 3 Zeds and enjoyed everyone. My current Zed is probably the best and the most powerful that I have owned and the most expensive. I have just showered money on it to get it just the way a Zed should be, fast, reliable and desirable. But when I drive it now it is beginning to feel toooooooo quick, both on power and handling. It feels like a rocket propelled go-kart which is probably partly due to my everyday driver being a Disco TD5. I am now aware that someone of my age getting out of a Zed must look a bit odd as I am closer to 70 than 60, and really these motors are a young mans pocket rocket. I feel that I now should be driving a Masseratti Quadroporti, or an XK8 or even a Bentley GT. My car does look like it should belong to a younger man. I think it may be decison time.
  24. Experienced clankeys (mechanics) use these http://www.uktools.com/crowfoot-wrenches-c-147_453.html which you can pick up quite reasonable on Ebay or shop around. They fit on the usual 3/8 socket extension bar.
  25. I think the viscous fan is a far better option than the after market electric fans available. Jimmer has had several vehicles with electric fans fitted and getting a bit hot. On re-fitting the viscous unit they have run normally. That fuel consumption figure, is that 'normal' driving or a bit 'spirited' as one would say. Sounds Murchielago territory to me.
