  1. Once you have been paid out, the insurers would dispose of the vehicle through the Trade, this would have happened when it was recovered, probably in a 'stripped' state. Obviously a Trader has bought it and rebuilt it. being a trader also means the vehicle does not get registered in their name unless they tax it, which is obviously what has happened. I reckon it was taxed 'online' and the DVLA posted the disc to the current registered address on their computer. As for getting it back, would you want it after some monkey who nicked it has ranted it about, possibly stripped it, and it has then had a dubious rebuild.? It aint the same car anymore.
  2. You might be in for a shock there as Jimmer pulled an engine a couple of months ago that was supposed to have that spec from ZTECH and it most certainly did not. The owner is now chasing Chris (ZTECH) through the Courts.
  3. Strictly speaking you should not you synthetic for running in but mineral based oil which allows bearings to lap into the surfaces. Synthetic creates a coating on the surfaces and stops this process happening which is why you should use it in the longer term.
  4. This guy is desperate to sell this car as he is trying to really fluff up the spec but the trouble is he is starting to contradict himself. He states a Ziggen air intake, and then a Stillen hi flow intake, and then a Turbo Technics breather kit, and then hand made downpipes connected to Mongoose exhaust ? and of course clear side repeaters. I reckon the only thing big on this car are the wheels and the bullsh1t. The price is cheap tho'.:wink:

  6. The reason the alloy calipers were changed to steel is not because of warping but because of corrosion. Dissimilar metals such as aluminium and steel react when they are in contact with each other. One is ferrous and one is non ferrous and thus the reaction (corrosion). This corrosion obviously affected the caliper seals by wearing them prematurely and thus the early failure rates. Another side eaffect was the actual pistons siezing in the caliper. When both materials were changed to steel, this was aleviated but of course purists prefer the aluminium calipers because they are lighter. So really the difference is down to maintenance, the aluminium calipers require assembling / reconditioning differently to the steel ones to avoid / prevent the corrosion caused by these two metal reacting with each other. Sadly the approach as with most things these days is ' if it aint broke leave it alone' and of course buy the time it is broke, its normally too late.

  8. With no plugs in it is hardly likely to fire is it. You could also just take the lead off the CAS, that would also disable the pump.
  9. God, this statement has been banded about for about 10 years, and they are still cheap as chips, mainly because they fall in the wrong hands and end up being liabilities. When you look on Ebay there are so many cars being sold with problems it drags the prices right down. When you see reports on this site where people have bought a car and it turns out to be a right shed, even though it was purchased from a club member / user you can understand the marking down of the marque. Nissan do not help by making the parts so expensive, but worst of all is the people who buy them on a shoestring budget and expect them to take a right thrashing without any proper maintanence, and of course they soon fail. Repairs aint cheap so they end up on Ebay or being a breaker. The word 'supercar' keeps getting mentioned but as always people forget that they need 'super ££££' to keep them that way. The 'items wanted' thread on here tells a story, second discs and pads wanted, shock absorbers, anyone got some head gaskets, plenum gasket, a spare injector ??? that don't look good, in fact it sounds more like a Nova / Corsa / Saxo site, but their car prices are higher that a Zed. Supercars and skint owners are not words that should be used in the same breath. Thats whats keeping the prices down. The Zed is a fab car, I have owned 3 and enjoyed everyone, but they do need £££'s spent on them to keep them fab.

I think the economic climate has kicked in especially the fuel aspect, that combined with higher insurance, higher car tax has meant most people tend to only use the car for the summer months anyway. That said, meet activity has been declining over the past couple of years ? As Jimmer said, there used to be loads of meets a couple of years ago but not any more. It has got to be down to running costs going to meets or total lack of interest. I sold my car mainly because that activity finished. I sympathise with REO's because when I was one, no one could be bothered to respond let alone turn up. I even suggested a monthly pub meet just to keep in touch, the same as other club marques usually do, but that fell on its arse too.Perhaps the percentage of non owner club members is now too high, hence the lack of interest in meets.

I think side skirts look very nice but sadly cause problems with the least one being the ability to jack the car up after they are fitted as they lower the profile and go over the jacking points on the cills. The biggest problem is that shite gets trapped behind them which remains wet and causes corrosion. To fit skirts properly you should first of all ensure everything in and around the area is good and solid. Once fitted, the void between the skirt and the cill should be filled with expanded foam, this then forbids the ingress of muck and water and lessens the opportunity for corrosion. Personally I would leave them off especially if you already have evidence of corrosion in and around the area as it normally developes from inside due to blocked drain holes and the fact that the targa roofs drain into the cills as well.Once the skirts are fitted now, the corrosion will continue to eat through the bodywork but will not be readily spotted if covered by the skirts. If the corrosion does become an issue for the next MoT, they will need to come off which normally buggers them anyway.
  15. Tell them that you are not interested in the money but they can provide you a with a 'suitable replacement', same year and spec and of course subject to an RAC / AA inspection. I think they will then up the offer as they will not want to go down that road.

  17. I thought they did a calendar years ago and it featured the winners of 'car of the month', of course that is not done anymore so you could be short of decent pics.
  18. A 4x4 in snow is just great, just take it steady and you should be able to get everywhere. just remember that braking is the same as a car and will slide dramatically if going too fast. The grip is mainly beneficial when driving not stopping.
  19. I find it surprising to be titled a 'drift car' and it has no front or rear strut brace, it must be as wobbly as f**K.
  20. If you have cats fitted and the water went into the exhaust far enough, they will be mullered. There are also ECU's situated in the passenger side rear seat side panel and control the fuel pump. You will also have to check your seat electric motors and controls.
  21. This aint the only forum though and other forums are not so micro managed, which makes it less user friendly. On here you either fit in and love all the moderators and commitee who mostly don't own Zeds or they ban you.:gunsmilie:
  22. It is not an easy job and really can only be done on a ramp. I do not know of anyone who has done this on axle stands at home, so come on someone, spill the beans.
  23. Years ago it was easy to get them off. You let the air out and put them on the floor and let another car drive over the tyre, that got it of the rim. Then with a half tidy set of tyre levers you could get them off the rim. Of course then they were quite narrow so easy peesy, now with wide rims, its a right barsteward and as Jeff states, what do you do with them afterwards. I took a headlight to my local recycling centre and was told that they only took household waste. I pointed out that they did oil recycling and of course car batteries but he was programmed to repeat the same message. Luckily his mobile went off and it was obviously a personal call and he turned his back and the headlamp went in the skip. By far the best result is your local tyre company and £20.
  24. Greyish white is turbos, greyish blue is PCV. lets hope it's the latter.
  25. It makes no difference what you have spent on it, you won't get it back and your sense of wanting a change will not go away. I spent a fortune on my Zed and was thinking along the same lines but now its gone, Winters here, and the money is in the bank. There has gotta be someone out there desperate to sell something different but perky. I have started looking at Maserati's, the 4.2 V8's with paddle gearchange. They are getting cheaper by the week.
