South East London Meet & Family Fun Day - 19th May 2018
I am organising a Charity Family Day on Saturday 19th May to celebrate the memory of my friend’s son Shea…who died from cancer aged just 18 in May 2017. A particularly difficult end to a short life blighted by disability….Shea was born with cerebral palsy and was quadriplegic…but was an extremely engaging and intelligent young man with an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of films and football. Shea also had a love of fast cars…having been around the Mercedes World track amongst others….so we thought adding a car theme to the day fits perfectly with his memory. I thought it would be great to get a selection of Zs there to showcase the marque alongside other Classic Cars being invited by another friend from the club he belongs to… the “Mean Old Timers” classic car club. This will be an annual event and Shea’s parents want the day to be primarily a ‘Fun Day’ but we will be trying to raise money for the “South London Special League” where Shea played ‘Wheel Chair Football’ for 8 years. Below is a flyer for the event and I really hope some of you can make it….there will be loads for all of the family to do…so the more the merrier There are a few details to iron out and appearances to confirm…(I am liaising with some fire service mates to get an engine along for the kids to get in….but that is a work in progress)…so there may be a few amendments to the details…but I just wanted to get it on the Calendar. Saturday 19th May 2018 is also the day of the Royal Weeding and the FA Cup Final…so that may put a few off…but both will be being screened in the club house for those interested. Venue - The John Roan Sports Field – Kidbrooke Park Road London SE3 9NF

What did you do to your zed today?
Signed up for the 2018 London to Brighton Classic Car rally - 3rd June from Greenwich Park  Also....while searching through a large tin of old nuts and bolts....I came across this.... Must be a spare key from one of my previous Zeds....could be for the 240z or the 260z...looks a bit old to have been for one of the 280zxs or my Z31 300zx...:confused1:

Baja 300zx - I've seen it all now.
I am a little disappointed at the reactions this has provoked.....I just got of the phone with Davide at Kraftwork....who I asked to do the same to my car! :whistling:

What did you do to your zed today?
Simon...I am talking about the official rating sticker attached to each tyre (same as you get with a new fridge)....I don't know how or where it is tested and awarded...I just use it as a guide for me personally...based on the assumption that it must mean something...or there wouldn't be any point to it....

What did you do to your zed today?
At risk of being branded an idiot and/or heretic…here’s my two penneth….many years ago I worked for Firestone in a large tyre distribution warehouse…where I reached the heady heights of ‘tyre inspector’…I was trained to inspect tyres that had been returned to identify those which were faulty and award a ‘trade in’ value (percentage wise) for the replacement…so I have worked with, and have formed an opinion on tyres. The high profile ‘better’ brands are more expensive mainly because those companies spend $millions on R&D which they need to recoup…that R&D results in tyres with consistently better performance characteristics…in respect of dry and wet weather grip, wear rate, rolling resistance and noise suppression....tyres today are light years ahead of those 30 years ago. Cheaper tyres come from companies that don’t spend their resources on endless R&D…they buy the technology from results of the R&D of the high profile ‘better’ companies…and manufacture them in places where labour is cheap….granted they are always behind the innovation curve…and there may be some that don’t manufacture to the same exacting standards…but that is hard to know. Tyres sold in the EU have to conform to standard tests and ratings for Fuel Efficiency, Wet Grip and Noise Levels…obtaining an A – G grade for each. I understand that where cheaper tyres ‘tend’ to differ from the high profile ‘better’ brand offerings is in the wear rate…they don’t last as long (probably due to different rubber compounds…but I don’t know) When I buy tyres I look primarily at the Wet Grip rating …and won’t buy any with less than a ‘B’…I was surprised just how many of the high profile ‘better’ manufacturers have tyres on offer that do not meet a B rating in this category! I don’t cover many miles in my Z ….so I’m not bothered about wear rate….but it is obviously horses for courses and I know many people who feel happier buying from the high profile ‘better’ manufacturers....and can respect that. What I did learn while at Firestone is that tyres are only at their maximum potential when they are new…each mile degrades them slightly ….and a new cheaper tyre will almost certainly perform better than any tyre with thousands of miles on it. Just my opinion…of course….. Let the abuse and ridicule begin!

So which is the best Z ?
I have owned a 240z, 260z (2+2), 3 x 280zx (2+2)....(2 x autos and 1 x manual - with Janspeed turbo) :thumbup1:, a 300zx Z31 NA (2+2) - (the face lift version)..... and 2 x 300zx Z32s (2+2) Twin Turbos...the latest one a UK spec manual. The 240z and the 260z were great cars to drive and be seen in... especially as I was only about 20 ...but were fairly basic sports cars... similar to...but better than an MGB....the 240z wasn't that fast either...around 8.5 sec 0-60....but quick enough for me to win a bet ...and a drag race against my mates Dolomite Sprint :cool3: The 280ZX's were cool at the time...but VERY 1980s ...and not that quick either...apart from the manual Janspeed turbo (fully body kitted... like the batmobile - Funky Si) The 1989 face lift Z31 300ZX 2+2 auto ....looked futuristic...but was woeful...slow and wallowing  My first 300ZX Z32 2+2 auto was a non runner that I took apart and brought back to life....it was quick, fun to drive and pretty....but ultimately felt like and 'old' car....I sold that about a year ago so that I could buy the Z32 I had wanted since seeing one in the Nissan dealer showroom in 1991 (Geoff Newlands in Sidcup)...a UK manual TT in EH7 Pearl Yellow...(or Sahara Gold)....this car is on a different level to my first Z32 and gives me a thrill every time I drive it! I haven't owned a 350Z or 370Z...as the shape has never appealed to me .....so for me..... ..........it's got to be the Z32 TT Manual

Just bought some wheels help please
Scott...I bought those very wheels for my Zed....19" Calibre Vintage from a company called 'Carnoisseur'....they too were a little concerned about caliper clearance at the front...and sent me a single wheel to try before sending the full order! It was close...but they do fit  ....(over standard calipers) The specification of my wheels are: 8.5 x 19 front 9.5 x 19 rear Finish: Silver with Polished Rim Front Offset: 35 Rear Offset: 35 PCD: 5x114.3 Quick Code: W544 I haven't used any spacers and think they sit pretty well They came with a fitting kit which included wheel nuts and spigot rings :thumbup1:

Series 1 Spoiler
I have removed the 99 spec spoiler from my UK 1991 TT in preparation for the fitment of a new OEM series 1 spoiler. The 99 spec had the perspex strip fitted ...which was cracked ...and broke while removing it .... I had always thought is was the non brake light version...as it didn't light....however on removal I noticed it 'was' the brake light version...but not working as there is no brake light harness in the tailgate !! :confused1: So...I'm assuming that a UK 1991 TT 'would' have had the centre brake light....so does anyone have a spare one for my nice new spoiler....and the harness to connect it!! ? No brake light harness! Spoiler fits like a glove though....as would be expected of an OEM part !....will need a bit of bodywork to repair the 99 spec mounting holes...and whole tailgate respray in Tri Coat EH7 Sahara Gold :scared: ....so I'm looking for a centre brake light assembly and the harness to make it work!
