Potential Danger with whiteline springs (with pictures)
Cheers bud any idea what the other number refers to? 152314 Rear and 146777 Fronts. Quite impressed with the eibachs on my missus RX8 so hoping they will be good with the nismo dampers on the Z Chris

Potential Danger with whiteline springs (with pictures)
Ok trust me to be different. Started to fit my whiteline lowering springs onto my nismo S tune dampers  last week and noticed all was not well. Simply put the whiteline springs are the wrong diameter to fit the 300zx dampers.   They are too big. A hurried call to demon tweeks and check of the on-line fitment catalogue confirmed that indeed the whiteline part numbers were correct but judge for yourself from the pics. would you have put these on your car? The guy said we have had hundreds of these fitted to loads of cars  Compare the first pic of the whiteline spring and how it sits on the damper with clear day light showing :x: and then the Eibach springs that i got sent next day. Everything you need to know about the relative quality is shown in the packaging. The whiteline springs came wrapped in clingfilm :( and obviously slightly worse for wear and showing signs of ageing on a shelf / boat. The eibachs came in a box in pristine condition. Lesson learned......... Now the only problem I have is the eibachs have two different numbers on each pair and no indication of which is which. Front or rear? Can anyone help Chris

HID's
You would have thought so......... :headvswal Ok the first set was from the trader who supplied the car. He was on this forum but does not seem very active now !!!! The bulbs where not the correct type so had to sit in some foam rings wedged into my light housings. Also they have metal cases on the ballast boxes that ryan from Ztech had to wrap tape around in an emergency cause they were shorting.... Then my high beam HID's came again wrong bulb type and running out of time to fit so again wedged them in and they do not work together with the old ones. I think my original clips to hold the stock bulbs in have long gone so not even sure if I could just plug and play a new set. Only one bulb will light on high beam :headvswal. You would think that would be because of all the dicking around that has now cracked one of the bulbs. But no if you swap each set they both work fully on low beam and momentarily on high beam so i doubt i will ever have fully working HIDS on full and low beam.   As you can imagine electrics are not my strong point (i will do anything mechanical) but like others it is a poverty of time i have. So I trust my pride and joy and hard earned to others. My early 300 experience is one of the reasons i am very cynical about 'The trade'. The clown who did first set of HID's also put me on a boost controller that never worked. All in all he took me for about £600 !!!! Lets say the factory jobs are probably a cleaner install but changing headlights looks to be a real pain. Are the 99 spec headlights HID on full and main beam? This is one job where if someone could just come and sort it you would be my hero for life ! Danny how much are your High and low beam kits 6000k spec? Chris

Shocks – Upper mounting hardware (plate, bush, bracket, seat, bumper etc)
I will probably have a spare set in about 2 weeks if you can wait a bit also check if you just want top mounts http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissan-300ZX-Z32-Front-Rear-Upper-Pillow-Mounts-Combo_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33581QQihZ020QQitemZ300005267505QQtcZphoto Chris

Cool................. I'll be looking out (probably like a hundred others) :headvswal

After market bits for this?
Well the Z doesn't have much body roll to start with but the car feels much more sure footed and yes if not No body-roll. The difference in strength is SO much when you see how puny the stock bars are you'll understand why it is such an effective mod. Think UK ones are better from the factory.

HID's
HIDs are an ace upgrade but fitting wise i have had a nightmare. both my sets are at best bodged into place and the high beam has never worked properly. knowing what i know now i would have fitted 99 spec OEM lights as these are stock fitted with HID lights. Anything above 6000k and the light is so blue that they are less bright than is useful. buy carefully. I have two sets that are Useless and they were not cheap. Chris

R33...vs.....R34...brake's
Sorry to be thick Smithy so now my 324mm DBA 5000's  discs are GTR spec? So......... With the spacers fitted I could fit the 33 or 34 brembo's and they would give me full disc coverage (i.e. more than my current stock calipers)? BTW now they are bedding in they they are a 'Kin ace upgrade :) :) :) Well happy............. Thanks Smithy

traction control
thanks guys I will be contacting powergate soon chris

traction control
Cool how much is it fitted? And do they have somewhere in the northwest where it can be done. My Missus RX8 is jus a bit too much fun with traction control switched off (it on if you know what i mean :) ) and now my power level on the Z is creeping up I want to get it fitted soon before a spirited wet drive ends in tears

traction control
Team, My next medium term investment will be traction control. Now I've got the wider Nismo wheels on it just feels too 'on-the-edge' in the rain and i have had a few moments. How is it for those folks who have it fitted? Also what options are there for the racelogic kit (or others) and what is the price fitted? Saw a supra in a mag with a nice little rotary control in the dash - is that standard? Chris

After market bits for this?
I just like being willfully different really as most other people run eibach or stillen........so i picked something different. You do need to do both though bud as I fitted the rear and drove the car without fitting the front too. Car felt weird. Its hard to describe how but if you realise the stock bars are puny and hollow and the whiteline are heavy and stiff. So i had a stiff rear end and wallowy front for a week :x:

R33...vs.....R34...brake's
Don't mean to worry you bud but as far as i can see R33 calipers are exactly the same as series 2 300zx calipers. Vspec ones (the brembos) are much more substantial. One of the specialists will know how much different. The info would help as for example now I have the spacers fitted and my 324mm R33 fitment DBA discs I do not know what it would take to fit skyline brembo calipers? different spacers?

R33...vs.....R34...brake's
I had some R33 calipers from a breakers but decided to use my stock calipers as they are exactly the same........... I will keep and eye out for some brembos but they are hard to come by

MINT condition UK spec stock wheel set
Team, What should I ask for a set of mint condition UK wheels (wider rear pair plus fronts). They were professionally re-furbed 2 months ago so are mint and have TOYO proxes T1R's with average of 6mm tread left on them..... They also come with 2 spare fronts with jap bridgestones with about same tread on them. So what should I ask for all 6 wheels? Chris

R33...vs.....R34...brake's
Just fitted my r33 based big brake kit today from smithy After some jerk at my local garage tried to install in wrong and gave up :xxx: I did it myself today. I went high end and got mine based on the DBA series 5000 discs   and I am well happy with the increase in performance........ highly recommended Chris

when you know its running wrong
It just shows how bad the weather is for forced induction right now. It makes me even more impressed when you see the achievements of the JUN zed  at bonneville all those years ago http://www.junauto.co.jp/democar/jb-z32/index.html?en guess they ran in the early mornings............. chris

when you know its running wrong
Amen to that my Apexi multichecker shows 340PS on a nice cool morning and then lately 307PS    Thats 10% power reduction in this hot weather. Now where is that article about cryogenic intercooler spray Chris

The ring - advice
Cool, I scored a ring meister coach for the weekend we are going. She is a development driver for prodrive and their resident ringmeister. I met her at a pro-drive trackday and she made me a lot faster and helped me drop my bad habits from my karting days :headvswal . Anyway as luck would have it she is working for Alfa :x: that weekend on a new model. I have agreed a fee and she will coach me for my 6 laps :) Of course I have now set myself up for posting my times so unless it is a cool time I will opt for no publicity right now! Chris

Wow looks like fun but he better source some arm restraints for that thing...... I have seen the effect when you roll one and an arm flys outside the cage as you cannot hold on..........yeuch :wack: Like a total ieejut I once did a luge run and started to get arsey when they told me they were gonna tie my hands on........... Then I thought about it some  and opted for the tied on option!!!!

Apexi FC Commander
Hmmm, dilemna time. I want to up my boost now the running gear is sorted and know my motor is sound. I was just considering a high end boost controller with John Dixon  sorting my chippage out........... But........... I was also gonna get some guages to keep a real eye on things like temp, oil etc. When you laid out the economics AND the ergonomics like you did you got me thinking. Is there anyone on the forum that can program these and has lots of Z application knowledge? I have seen lots in skylines but also hear the argument that its better just to get a chip by a 'good guy' who knows what he is doing rather than some of the dubious mapping by some rolling road jockeys with little Z experience. What say the forum?
