  1. this could be it I am on standard wheels (uk spec) on a jap car. how could the capliers themselves cause this? I don't understand how. discs and pads are new and not warped........ Calipers have been pronounced sound by mechanic. I need this sorting for the trip to the ring as it effects my confidence when driving 'spiritedly' Chris
  2. New tyres, new shocks, new suspension bushes all round (inc. tension rods) new steering rack rods, new wheel bearings, solid upper control arms, new discs, new pad, wheels balanced, STILL shimmy's under breaking with vibration through the wheel :headvswal :headvswal :headvswal :headvswal Chris
  3. Sweet as a nut mate sweet as. Apexi monitor showing regular 340PS and 13.5psi (360 tubs, intake, stillen IC's, injen hard pipes, mine's ECU and custom zorst) and feels smooth as silk through the drive train. Now just need to sort the front end shimmy and suspension squeak for the trip to the ring. Chris
  4. thanks will try this on friday when i get home
  5. Wow i need to check that out! I have had new shocks, upper control arms, discs pads, suspension bushes and about to do tension rods. If its the bloody bonnet hinges I'll be relieved and gutted in equal measure................ :) Stuff needed doing anyway. I get a shimmy and steering wheel wobble under braking at a certain speed range which most say is warped discs but they are brand new so all roads currently leading to tension rods.......... If this affects a lot of zeds why no definitive cure found yet. Are we all driving round with squeaky cars???????? LOL
  6. thanks greg I spoke to ryan to get these fitted next time i am down along with boost controller and turbo time :smash:
  7. No mate JDM silver - mine's tuned and lowered TT with UK wheels and Uk markings. Stock looking but not :smash:
  8. Autobox re-build and fit £1,800. Top job done by ryan and personally sorted me out with his courtesy car when his gearbox guys let him down. top blok top team can't say enough good about them. Chris
  9. i had a whole list of stuff done while the engine was out for new autobox, oil pump, prop bearings etc. etc. Tubs were listed on my invoice as supply and fit £1,800. If you get it done consider doing other stuff that is close to its fail time as well. I did this so as to save in the long run and enjoy piece of mind for the future. Ryan really knows the cars and the team down there are all committed to the Zed cause. I like the way ryan will tell you when you don't need to spend money as much as advising you as to what you do need. Chris C Cannot praise them enough.
  10. They are getting old people. We are all now facing the 'wall' of multiple failures due to many components reaching the end of their design life. How 'we' (the zed community) see our cars through this period will determine if they reach 'classic' status. Judging by the dedication of owners and the service and passion of guys like Ryan we have a stone cold classic on our hands already. Jumping on the props to Ztech I concur. My car just had £6k of work done at z-tech and like you the path didn't run smooth (not down to ryan and team) but ryan gave world class service with constant info and advice. He has another happy customer here. (running sweet as ryan and i will soon come for the timer and the boost controller etc.) Chris
  11. Take the point about some turbo's mate. As an automotive / aerospace designer team leader myself i can see where the zed design team was allowed free reign (engine internals - Hicas system) and where they had to compromise to meet the target price (alternators, water pumps). Although I would agree to say the design life of the turbo's is not the weakest link I cannot think for the life of me why they are not 360 deg as stock as the tech was current at the time and the costs are marginal. I think it does not reflect well on the supplier. Having said that the overall execution of the design is superb but turbo's are always subject to many variables in their lifespan that effect their longevity. Just like whole cars and engines but even more so condition is much more important than age / mileage but generally speaking i would see them as between the alternator (hopelessly under-designed) and the prop shaft bearing in terms of the likely design life. One of my assumptions is that they will give up earlier due to the likelihood of non-stock replacement exhausts being fitted without the stock back-pressure and of overboosting by modern users with access to aftermarket boost controllers. Of course the original designers would not probably have predicted this. I did my oil pump and my turbo's and all the ancilliaries because my upgrade brief was to enjoy 'stone axe' reliability for my high mileage use of the Zed until my new Nissan GTR arrives 2008 in the UK (will probably put 100k miles on her by then). For this age of car we need good actual longevity data as a forum as we love these cars into their old age. We could easily get statisically significant data through web based polls on the life of various items. I suggest for each item (e.g. alternator) earliest known failure. highest still going and mean failure. We could also get some second fit failure rates which would be cool too. Chris
  12. It is a crude electronic device that over rides the stock autobox controller to provide a firmer crisper more sporty shift. It basically drive the box harder than it was designed to do. On a new car it is probably an improvement that won't effect reliabilityuntil after you have sold it. on old cars like ours it shags the box sooner. At the time the auto box in the zed was at the very peak of design capability for an autobox with such high power engine they are no where near as over-engineered as other aspects of the car. Like the stock brakes they are not quite up to the job when measured by modern standards. Stay away from the ALC and then if you want the crisper change when the box goes go for something like Ztechs 'fast road' box. My car is in a fairly light state of tune so i opted for a straight swap for a re-conned stock box. Some people use the death of their auto box to do a manual conversion as the price seems to be comparable. others like me love the auto as it is a delight to drive for hours on end.
  13. The theory is more robust longer lasting and alledgedly faster spool up........ whats the point? your stock turbos last 60 to 70k miles so if you want your Zed to last another 60k + Along with the oil pump, alternator, cam belt etc, etc, It seems the engine is good for 100,000 plus but its ancilliaries 60k. Chris
  14. It is a case of when, not if. Upgrade the cooler to enjoy a stay of absence then take it to a specialist to rebuild it when it does go you will notice shifting inconsistencies and slipping. DO NOT fit and HKS ALC as this will accelerate the demise trust me (bitter personal experience) The Ztech guys just did my autobox re-build and new 360deg bearing turbos. to say it feels like a new car is an understatement.......! (thanks guys) As my compression test showed it has a good engine I guess I am now feeling what all the fuss was about at the cars launch :smash:
  15. Is it a case of bigger is always better for intercoolers anyway I thought they make a car laggier?
  16. I think we should also consider that the zed is a long legged grand tourer GT car designed in the 80's when 0-60 was important but secondary to endless motorway mile munching. Think of its perceived competitors when it was designed. (porsche 944). Modern design ethos is way different. No longer do they think we are cruising at treble figures to the south of france to the casino. M3's are fast but my mild-tuned zed eats them regular so I think when it comes to power figures BMW always seem to print the legend rather than the facts. IMHO
  17. Hey list check this out don't think i have ever seen a bigger one for a zed. Will it make the car laggier than side mounts? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HUGE-Nissan-300zx-z32-Front-Mount-Intercooler-kit-NEW_W0QQitemZ4623135067QQcategoryZ43808QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem  Also 40hp from intercooler alone? Would and intercooler upgrade alone add HP? Chris
  18. Have been at my other place since before christmas.......You reminded me now they are down ! Thanks bud
  19. Claim.........????? Ask what would you have thought about this even 20 years ago. Shit happens. You only claim if someone was clearly negligent (sue the sparky who put the lights up?) and / or if the company didn't act on your incident and put it right to make sure things won't happen again to someone else. Claiming just adds fuel to the fire that has got us all living as paranoid wrecks e.g. My kids not being able to learn how to dive because councils have taken all the diving boards out swimming pools (for fear of claims). Sure it may sound like a quick money grabber but it is the most Chavvy of 'careers'. As a Z owner i take it you enjoy living life with a feeling of a certain freedom and those freedoms are under attack due to the 'no-win-no-fee' culture. I had an accident on holiday last year 4 stitches in my foot trip to hospital etc. Did I claim NO because the guy who caused the problem apologised, put it right and I want us all to keep enjoying cheap holidays in the Sun. He explained to me If I had claimed he would have had his apartments taken out of the brochure and lost his business. When I got back from the hospital and told the rep everything was cool I had dinner with his family.......Result "any time you want to stay chris call me........." Do the right thing - Free chips is the deal.......and sleep at night knowing you are free of chavness! Chris
  20. Their designers told me they have now stopped doing the twin tip design as a std. There are old stocks around but the oval is the new std pipe for 300's. Tastes change and oval is 'in' now. apparently
  21. Thanks Team I love the way something as simple as zorst can polarise opinions :D Its kinda the point really....... :hyper: Do things a little Different........and watch the opinions roll in. Now then what about spoilers...............LOL
  22. Alpines up front and JBL's in the rear sound crisp with my nackamichi head unit. BUT if you want bass forget it you are never gonna get good bass in the zeds tiny housings so you need a sub.
  23. What would you say are the best 'decent' discs and pads. I Did goodridge hoses and top quality fluid. My shimmy under braking seems to be the tension rods as all other stuff done and discs are not warped. I hear you supply rose-jointed tension rods? I have EBC drilled & grooved discs with the latest generation Red-Stuff pads (not the older crap ones) but mine are the older aluminuim calipers. I desperately want to keep the stock wheels. Chris
  24. Got it in one Bud My stock Jap exhaust was THE bottleneck to all my other mods. My mines ECU is mapped for Intercoolers, boost up, induction and Exhaust. So Just shows how much a std exhaust and cats cans strangle things. Got a 295 to 300 before and got 349 horses on this cold morning today. As to the looks yeah I know it may look a bit max power corsa-ish BUT remember my design goals i wanted it a drone-free zone as it is a motorway stomping machine. The stock Blue flame system is 2.25" pipe and oval end cans but the cans made it dronesville in the car (annoying as hell after 20 miles). Same goes for many of the jap sewage pipe look-alikes that flow well but also make a big noise. And dont get me onto that £800 full system from the big name jap tuning house that is MILD STEEL for Fook sake
  25. Where can I get solid tension rods from and how do you fit them as aren't the std ones rivetted on? Chris
