  1. Hey listers what are the absolute giveaways that would tell if your 1992 JDM TT was a 'series 2' or not?
  2. Ok its probably been done to death earlier so apologies but maybe my twist will make it new. I want a new set of tyres to fit my UK spec original fit wheels.........8.5 rear 7.5 Fronts What tyres do the list recommend, fast road work all weathers and very occasional track day. Am considering another set of wheels for track use so answers could be an all round tyre or two sets, money not an issue but don't want to burn it !!!! P.S. Don''t know if anyone else has em but I am totally underwhelmed by the Zeds current continental sport contacts
  3. Maybe the engine and aerodynamics will do it but the Trust car suffered double front tyre failure when it was doing 211mph in the US way back in the day. I have the article somewhere. If you plan on doing it get some serious boots on it as at those speeds tyre / wheel failure becomes the main factor
  4. Well Guys, The Zed is on the ramps and getting (amongst other things) its urethane master bushing kit fitted. It sure has a lot of bushes to replace. Anyway as luck would have it when preparing to drop the rear sub-frame I noticed a diff oil seal just weeping so that will be replaced to (lucky avoided cooked diff). During the course of the day I called luke at the Z centre and we talked a little bit but he was busy (just come back of his hols) so I didn't get to ask everything. It says in the 300zx enthusiasts companion that the euro spec diff was different due from the J-Spec due to higher running speeds does anyone know how it was different? Additional oil-cooler? larger? different gearing? Also Luke said the rear anti-roll bar was thicker on euro-spec cars. Has anyone done this mod to their J-Spec or upgraded via an aftermarket one. Whilst I am re-bushing the car it would make sense to do it....... Cheers
  5. Yeah I kinda found the lights mis-leading as Green is on all the time i.e. power is getting to the unit and then red should light up whenever you floor-it like the 'power' light on your dash. This means the ALC is doing its stuff. If you don't see the light then you probably over-tightened the connector or bent a pin or something. Hope its the former
  6. Seems a lot of Japanese owner de-badge them for sleeper mode. My twin turbo had had the nissan and twin turbo lettering removed......... It still results in people asking "what is it......?" I like watching their faces when I say "oh its just an old nissan".......!!!!!!!!
  7. If You want the converter send an e;mail to chriszcooper@aol.com we can deal
  8. Hey Andy you have first refusal on this 'import solutions' item. Contact me if you want it if not I will list it on ebay this weekend MinesTT
  9. Thanks team..........The upgrade will happen next week
  10. I assume you have to blank off the old stock solution which is included in the radiator
  11. I sure like the look of that solution, autobox to OE oilcooler, oil cooler to 13row upgraded cooler, neat neat double solution but..........zcentre is closed till 12th of sept and my car goes in for the work & major service on the 12th. How is zcentres turnaround time? Does he have things in stock? or will I be stuck with my car on ramp waiting for bits?
  12. I got mine for $200 via US ebay, I then ordered the ducts for these after talking to the guys at Stillen convinced me they were essential "they are only marginally better than stock without the ducts" (a further $199). I got them shipped to a work colleague in the US who brought them over on his next trip to UK although Stillen are happy to ship worldwide..........I have bought other things from them and shipped direct but you have to factor in VAT which you may (it seems hit and miss sometimes) get stung for unless they label it as a gift or of low low value. Having said all that if I was to buy new I almost certainly would get the Greddy ones from chris on this list as they are a good price for members and look much easier to fit than the stillens / HKS designs. Being based on a thicker core design rather than the taller units that the Stillen / HKS ones are I would encourage you to make ducting from the front bumper inlets to force air into these especially if your front undertray is missing as, lets just say, the airflow needs some encouragement with all the stuff thats in there behind the bumper to cause eddy's...........
  13. I went the stillen route for my intercooler upgrade as I want to keep a stock look. (The stillen twin set-up is alledgedly the largest you can fit behind stock front-end without mods but I am sure the Greddy & HKS guys will claim the same). The stillens are well made and in actual fact do require some minor cutting of the stock mounting brackets, and slight bending of the carbon canister pipes. You must add the 'essential' stillen air ducts too. With such uprated twin intercoolers the ducting is essential as without them the airflow would not naturally find its way to the upper part of the larger intercoolers in meaningful volumes. Looking side on the airflow is required to crank up somewhat. If you haven't got an undertray under your front end (lots are missing) then this is even more so as great gobs of cold air are just flowing out again under the car. IMHO If you have a body kit the front mounted option seems an easier bet but seems to require lots more plumbing. IMHO Just thoughts but I was also thinking though that if you have an additional auto trans oil cooler upgrade then front mounted intercoolers is one more layer in what is becoming a big sandwich. e.g. Front Mounted intercooler, ->Oil cooler converted to autobox cooler,->aftermarket Oil cooler,->Radiator. That air is sure gonna be well warmed up by the time it hits the rad................. I will be interested in other experiences
  14. Thanks I will get them and fit as soon as............
  15. Guys/ Gals my poly bush set arrived from the US today complete with the following.........info SPECIAL NOTE: The Manufacturer Energy Suspension has recently redesigned the Front Strut Rod Bushings in these Kits. These parts were only recently released. Our Kits DO contain the new bushings - if you're buying this kit from another seller make sure you're getting the new bushings! Very Limited Quantity of these newly redesigned kits! The manufacturer is still trying to catch up with all the back orders that occured while redesigning the bushings. We have them now! I then checked the FAQ on here and read about torn tension rod rivets. Does anyone know if this was the reason the kit was re-designed? If so this could effect a lot of UK zeds.... Don't want to scare the horses but wanted to pass the info on which came with the kit..........
  16. Lost count of the number of slouch cars or dyno-day wonders that do not deliver in speed roll-on situation. Alledgedly the Supra launch was delayed 2 years when the Toyota guys clapped eyes on the Zed......... Was probably N/A but you still showed him that lovely rear..........
  17. Team, Any info on Which Nismo alloys fit the Zed without body mods? Do the 350z S-tune 19's fit? with laggy band profile tyres I assume Pics would be cool Thanks
  18. Hi I had the same problem a while back - annoying as hell. On my JDM auto everyone said it would be the converter de-limiter thing but it turned out to be related to the electro-mechanical speed sensor so I fitted a brand new one ordered from nissan main dealer problem solved. But check out my journey to find out why? My symptoms where that it occasionally stopped reading and just dropped down to zero and then occasionally worked a bit then didn't. The worst ever was when I was going up to RAF leuchars and was in the absolute middle of no-where middle of the night and my autobox stuck in neutral refusing to shift up or down having lost the speed info right at the crucial time. My cruise control was effected every time the speedo failed and would also not work / then work occasionally work etc.. Anyway I inspected the old speed sensor and stated to figure that the shaft had worn to the point that it could not get proper purchase on the gear that was driving it in the box hence the fail gradually failure mode or...... That the heat could make a difference as the boxes run really hot so maybe it is working until it gets hot. Mine would work at higher speeds so maybe it was cooled down (in short I was disappearing up my own arse - zeds have that knack as the little demon in your brain says - these cars are too complicated for mere mortals!) Anyway it was just a dodgy wire that blew into the right position at various speeds always above 80mph! The wire to the speed sensor has to be tie-wrapped up out of the under car airflow and comes complete with an OE clip for the purpose. Mine wasn't clipped up after a recent service so it had very quickly waggled itself to death after a "it'll do" which left the wire dangling with the OE clip swinging on it !!!! fixed now. Hope that saves you some heart ache bro
  19. Hey andy I have a brand new converter and de-limiter (no more 155mph limit!) I was jus going to list it on ebay tonight but its yours for £40 notes. It includes full fitting instructions for the Zed and the little MPH sticker to fit your clocks for the SVA test. Oh yeah forgot the reason I have it was my speedo stop working and everone said it will be the de-limiter / converter you fitted. After buying a brand new one (the one I am selling) I found out it was actually my speed sensor that had failed (on the gearbox). So you can buy with full confidence. Mail me
  20. Hi John I wasn't selling anything myself, I originally posted to give props to a guy called japan dyno who trades through e:bay he got me my mines 'light tune' ECU plus my autobox HKS ALC (automatic line controller). That set a load of hares runnning but anyways check out US ebay type http://www.ebay.com not .co.uk search 300zx and see the prices compared to UK. Some guys ship worldwide so it is a cheap route to get performance parts for little dough. Get them to label happy birthday and mark as gift.........
  21. Forum.......... Can anyone help me with pics of an autobox oil-cooler upgrade as my car will be having this done soon. I found one how-to but it has no pics Thanks
  22. Hi Forum, Thanks for the recent advice re: my 92 JDM TT auto. Due to my long journey's 300+ miles 90-100mph (german autobahns of course) and the posts from the forum my car is now booked in for an autobox oil cooler upgrade while I get my EBC sport disc upgrade done. As I was talking to my mechanic he asked me if I wanted cooler iridium plugs fitted as I am also getting a full main service done (minus belts - they were done last month when water pump gave up - RIP). Transmission oil will be replaced, diff oil too. Given my cars spec are the colder plugs a good idea, what will they do? Will they make Detonation less likely? allow the car to run cooler? Spec: 92 JDM Twin turbo Std Injectors Std Turbos Mines 'Light tune' ECU Blitz Air intake Blitz bost controller occasionally set to 10% additional boost Injen Hard pipe kit Stillen Intercoolers & ducts Std Exhaust (but not for long - probably fitting mongoose soon) HKS ALC shifter UK spec rear wheels Thanks
  23. Wow, For my first post I really felt like I was being flamed for a while but it seems that people with actual facts and experience prevailed over the 'speculation' based posts and my questions / commnets were answered sensibly. I think we can summarise what we have all learned below:- 1) Mines ECU's are very popular for the 300zxTT in japan 2) Mines ECU's are mapped for 98RON fuel - data source, Mines's VXROM website 3) Mines suggest using Uprated intercoolers with their ECU's which corroborates earlier post about being careful re: overboosting them and also me getting 13.5 psi in normal hot day and 14-15psi on cold morning once my stillen intercoolers were fitted 4) Mines do three ECU's - 'Light tune' - Standard turbo's, Standard injectors, Boost up, Air intake, exhaust and intercoolers upgrade. 'Medium tune' as above but for larger turbo's and injectors 'Race tune' altogether different beast with three switchable maps 5) Mines ECU's are different for auto and manual 6) MinesTwinTurbo is NOT selling anything just wanting to learn. For the speculators out there the chinese say that "the route to wisdom starts and ends with the words 'I do not know'........" Its ok to say that rather than post messages that should begin with the words "I think" So it seems Mines ECu's are a good bet for UK owners but check the ECU spec before you buy and run Optimax type fuel from a busy garage turning its fuel stock over fast I think that with the 300zx we are actually following in tuning footsteps from the main Japanese tuners and from key players in th US i.e. Jim Wolf and Steve Millen (Stillen). Everything that is to be known about tuning / upgrading these cars is probably out there already........... Cheers thanks for the help and no offence taken at all.......... :smash: :smash:
  24. From Mines's site...........some charming translation Mine's VX-ROM Performance ECU Mine's VX-ROM is best seller in the aftermarket ECU products in Japan, and Mine's programmed ECU to suit fuel octane of 98 RON. Mine's VX-ROM ECU modules always offer a considerable safety margin in programming, where engine durability is considered an important factor. Furthermore, immobilizer function will still work with Mine's VX-ROM for the cars with immobilizer. By changing the specification of the engine control unit(ECU), which is the engine's brain, the potential capability of performance cars is extracted to the maximum extent. (this procedure includes fuelling and ignition timing re-maps as well as various limiter setting alterations.) Basic VX-ROM is applicable from standard cars to stage one tuned cars with uprated inductions, exhausts and boost controllers. Programming can be continuously updated as more tuning is carried out. (for the first owner of the ECU and subject to upgrade fee.)Please contact us for availability on specific vehicles before placing an order because some models requires matching of ECU part number and chassis number.
