600zx - Finally back to work....
Just bumped into my MOT tester for tomorrow in Morrisons while i popped up for a sandwich and had a quick chat as to what he'll be looking for tomorrow. According to him, all i need working is: Headlights - TICK Indicators - TICK Brakes - TICK Fog light on switch with a light somewhere - TICK Speedo - not needed Reverse light - not needed Emissions test - not needed on a carb engine this old Interior - Only seatbelts needed with seats bolted firmly to the floor Looking good for me passing!

600zx - Finally back to work....
Well underneath is finished although i've found the brakes badly need bleeding again after the leak so i'll be doing that tonight. Indicators and all lights are working fine now, just the exhaust manifold to finish then i can start on the interior and we're done. I've had to put the stock bumper and nose cone on for the time being but apart from that it's looking good :hyper: I also need to get that air filter sorted out pretty sharpish - bugger! :( The ultimate sleeper......... :D Suppliiiise!

Xenons in a UK question?

Man Flu
It's floating round my work at the moment, i had it for 2 weeks solid dying all day long but still managed to make it into work every day even though it's a 70 mile commute :hyper: It was close but still have my unblemished record of no days sick off work in over 12 years now :)

What Should I do? Please some advice...
Hello mate, I agree with Jane's comments about leaving them for long periods of time - it does dry out seals and leave components in the engine/suspension/brakes to degrade in the air so they do need a little use now and again to keep everything in good health. BUT they are Japanese cars, they're incredibly well put together and engineered so my only advice would be to get the car out of storage and take it for a drive each day for a week before you go for a long distance trip. This should give it enough time to bed the engine and brakes back in again, allow you to fix any problems that have occurred since you last drove it and hopefully by the timeyou drive it all the way to paris you should find the car is back to the way it should be. I've left a Toyota Supra in a wet field for 12 months under a cover without starting it once and the first time i started it again after charging the battery it drove perfectly without any problems.

Fuel Tank Breathing?
That's what i was thinking, i have a spare mini plastic fuel filter that would ideal for the job and sit under the wheel arch with no problems so i'll wait and see what the pro's say but i agree with you that should be enough for 1960s engineering :)

Fuel Tank Breathing?
Hi all, Okay, final conundrum on the 600zx is down to the fuel tank breathing. I have no return on the regulator so just one pipe from the gravity fed connector on the base of the tank going to pump, then the filter then the regulator then onto the carb. Now i know on the standard zed you have a charcoal canister which collects the petrol vapours but as that's been bypassed and missing now i just have all the pipes on the top of the tank left and a return pipe coming up the front of the tank. Now i know i need to pull in air as the vacuum increases in the tank and i can do that via a PCV valve i have lying around that would fit inline perfectly on one of the pipes going to the old fuel pump in the tank. The question is i also need to vent excess pressure from the petrol vapours on a hot day/car getting hot. So do i need a one way valve at all and should i just have one pipe running higher than the top of the tank out to the wheel well to vent to atmosphere? Any ideas guys? As i want to get the car off to its MOT on Thursday and if anyone is in the know it'd be appreciated to hear their opinions :)

600zx - Finally back to work....
Veeeeery close now. Just have to figure out the fuel breather issue, change the exhaust manifold gasket and i'll be done mechanically then it's just wire up 12v to the reverse switch and pop it up to the reverse light and i'll be ready to refit the interior and get it over to the MOT station on Thursday morning :)

600zx - Finally back to work....
Well took the bumper and nose panel up to Pete's house last night and was busy prepping and rubbing back the bumper with 400 grit till 11ish. Everything's now prepped up for spraying today in 2 pack so finsgers crossed i should have them back before the weekend to refit. Luckily i still have the original nose panel and bumper to use in the meantime so i'll just slap those on for the time being. Back onto the car tonight and get that exhaust manifold finished and the interior back in :)

Bored of retirement
It sounds to me like you need a project to get your brain focussed enough to get back out there again! It doesn't have to be zed related but getting yourself into the routine of getting up at a set time and doing a 9-5pm bit of work each day will get your head back into the flow again. I used to be self employed and it's very easy to slip into the getting up late, losing focus way of thinking so putting some structure in place and getting your brain working will ease you back into a work frame of mind again :)

Some like it.... sideways
I think the worst for me was overtaking something on full boost in the wet and thought i'd sideswiped them! Never again after that - zeds bite hard when they're provoked

Some like it.... sideways
They really do hold on well but when they do go it only takes a little provoking and they're off out sideways although not as much as an ex work colleagues MX5 mk1 :D He'd been riding a bike for 5 years prior to this and this was his first road car in years. It was the first wet day he'd been out in it and i saw him boot it coming out the roundabout and span 3 times before coming to rest backward across the other side, sat there for 2 seconds with a huge grin on his face and stuck two thumbs up at me laughing  Bless him the daft bugger lol You're always more than welcome to pop over buddy, you've got my number (i think!) from the last time you were here but you may as well leave it till the beast is on the road before you come to see it as it's pretty much done now. Working on it all this week to get it on the road taxed and tested before the weekend for the tunnel run then i'll invite all the midland lot round for a bbq :) I've deliberately mounted all the weight behind and below the wheels to get as neutral handling a car as possible so even though it will be twitchy i won't be wrestling it in the event of a slide

Some like it.... sideways
I used to love my MR2 in the corners, one of very few cars you can just kick the end out and steer round the corner with the accelerator without having to crap yourself knowing it'll be a bugger to reign back in :D Perfectly balanced 50/50 which is what i'm aiming for with the V8 fingers crossed. It's definitely got the torque to lose the back end but handlingwise not a clue  Shall look forward to having an experiment around some private land :)

600zx - Finally back to work....
Perhaps time to build your very own V8 muscle zed buddy ;) If an idiot like me can do then surely you can do it

my wedding pics
Great photos buddy and congratulations to you both :)

600zx - Finally back to work....
Especially when nothing is supposed to fit in the first place  I know, i know  Well good news is i'm dropping off the front bumper and nose panel at the sprayers (helpful chap that he is ;) lol) so should have the car with the correct colour bits on it by the end of the week. I'm finishing the last tidying up underneath tonight, changing the exhaust manifold gasket and bolts and starting to put the interior back tonight then should be booking it for it's MOT on Thursday morning :) haha  have you not seen this thread yet buddy or anything before? :D Cheers Steve, hoping i'll have it running and bug free for saturday because it's the Miss Banzai tunnel run in london and i'm determined to make it this year! :wheelchair:

Got a tent for my Z
Flipping heck alan, that thing isn't going anywhere is it? :D lol Good going aquanuke, think i might have to invest in one of those for the V8 until i can get the pennies together to invest in a proper brick garage for the V8 to live in at the new house :) It's a fair old size for a £170 tent too! I didn't realise they were that big!

Mud in the windscreen washer bottle
There's an overflow hole that's probably had rubbish off the road thrown at it with it being under the wing? You could stick some mesh over the hole which would hopefully sort the problem out? Other than that it could be sludge in the rad/engine being thrown out the filler cap?

Got a new car today
Before my ex went off with it, i did have the gen before that in 2.2 vtec form and it went and handled brilliantly. Love it when the VTEC kicks in :hyper: I did think about buying another at some point as a day to day car but they're a little bit thirsty on the old juice for the mileage i do but what a cracking buy you've got there :D

600zx - Finally back to work....
I hope i never have to put another speedo sender into that gearbox again. It's a simple one bolt system that holds the cover in place so you'd think 5-10 mins? Nope - had to jack the gearbox, undo the gearbox mounting bracket which is covered by the exhaust so doing it by touch to remove 8 bolts, finally squeezed the sender in, aligned it and tightened up the nut then had to get the loom into place. The bracket had then moved so i had to get a screw driver with about 3 inches of room over my face and crank it back into place while trying to start the bolts off with my fingers then spin the spanner round in my fingers to do it up. Total bloody nightmare and took me 3 hours all in all :( To top it off then i had to connect up the reverse switch to turn the reverse lights on so managed to finally get a spanner big enough to undo the sensor, cut the wires, spliced and soldered them, made up a loom and fed it up through the floor and bolted it back in to find i'd just wired up the neutral safety switch - doh! Eventually got it right and wired up the reverse switch at 12.30am last night having been in there since 6pm so i'm knackered today but at least it's done now!

Take a look at this!!!!
That's great news mate, well done and congratulations to you both :)

600zx - Finally back to work....
Cheers buddy, got all the paperwork through yesterday but still need a club valuation and photos to complete the policy. Okay little news update, finally managed to buy a pipe flaring tool last night and recut and flared the brake pipe last night so after a quick test there doesn't seem to be any more problems with leaking brake fluid but i'm going to rebleed everything tonight then do a proper test all round top check for leaks but when we jacked and tested all the wheels earlier this week they all put a decent amount of force onto the wheel to stop it turning so fingers crossed that should be it now! I'll be back on it tonight trying to get everything finished off but obviously it won't be MOT'd this week now so i'll aim for monday all being well. More to come as it happens but nearly there now!
