1. Thanks Jim :D You've arrived at the right time, it's just about finished and ready to hit the road after 2 years of hard work! Hopefully see you at the shows buddy! :) Well update for the weekend. I was off out all of Saturday at the beetle show at santa pod then off to the pictures in the evening so didn't get stuck into the car till today. Found quite a few leaks on the V8 which i've had to sort out to get any further: - There was oil leaking out the back of the block which i initially though was the remote oil filter bolt on which was causing hideous amounts of smoke to come up off the exhaust manifold heatwrap which i finally sourced to the intake manifold and the oil pressure sender. That's now been PTFE taped and put back in and hopefully should stop it. - Also found the intake manifold had loosened off so dad's picking up some torxs head bolt replacements and i'll use some thread locker to seal them in when i pop them back in. This was causing water to run down the front of the block picking up some oil that was seaping under the rocker cover. Torqued up both and the drip stopped. Started work on the bracket to take the 300zx throttle cable and checked the movement of that and the throttle mechanism and worked out the throttle had to move 60mm on the carb and the 300zx accelerator pedal moves 55mm so just have to hook it all up then grind back the pedal stop to make it match the carb. Started also making a bracket for the fuel pressure regulator which is a piece of cake and should tidy up the engine bay. I'm also moving the power steering pot from the usual place to where the battery usually goes which i'll be doing over the next week. I've also stripped down the fuse box, removed anything i didn't need and pulled the whole wiring loom through the hole under the lights so clean up the panel it usually sits on. Need to grind down the mounting brackets, bolt holes and smooth off the arches then paint them. Tested the alternator is working by using a voltmeter on the battery and hey presto it's charging and pulling 13.5 volts+ all the lights work. The only thing that doesn't work is the power steering which is worrying me slightly but i'll come to that when i come to that when the engine is 100% spot on. My phone was on charge all night so haven't had it there to take any photos but things are coming together nicely now and the engine bay will be finished by the end of this week as will the engine and i'll be able to drive it round the driveway for the first time by next weekend fingers crossed! :hyper:
2. Cheers dave :D You'll see it soon, planning on a bbq for the midlands lot soon (and anyone else who wants to come along) Cheers buddy, it took ages to wire up but worth every minute i think :) Thanks mate, it's been worth all the effort - on the home straight now! :punk: Hmm let me think about that in a years time - you've got first dibs :scooter:
3. Cheers buddy :) Hmmm let me think about that on, sounds like a good deal to me.... hey wait! :taz:  Haha, well to build that engine will cost you close to 6k and the total build including all the free bits i got with the car has come to about 9k so realistically to do the whole thing from start to end again buying all the bits in and the engineering costs would set you back about£12k so you'd better get saving  Realistically though you could buy a running chevy 350 block and get it all in for under 5k then the skies the limit with performance! Superchargers, nitrous, twin turbos, 1000bhp+ easily available
4. Cheers guys :) just can't stop listening to it now...
5. You lucky lucky people :D I've been out tuning to 600zx tonight and it sounds effing mint :) Behold  (Whack it on to 480p for the best sound)
6. I'm a officially a chevy man but i still love mustangs no matter what gen and that's a corker for the money. Good purchase my man :)
7. They look superb for that sort of money! Well worth the money and effort getting them over here :D
8. I don't usually like day running lights but they actually work very well :)
9. Cheers buddy, more to come soon :D I made the choice not to start it again until i'd finished fixing the little bits that would really affect how quickly i could get it running properly. SO i've: * fixed the lambda sensor problem - when i'd pulled the wire through it had knocked the connector out so just plugged it back in * tested the sender on the fuel pressure and it's dead so ordered a spin in gauge that fits on the regulator in the engine bay (looks bling and also saves me keep going round to look at the dash) * hooked up the alternator light with a diode and it works! * finished off the fan wiring and tested it with a heat gun - starts up and although i'm only running one fan it's got some guts to it! I think i still need to mount it flush to the rad though so something to do after it's on the road so long as it keeps the car spot on temperature which i'll test tomorrow when i start it up and tune it Just the gearbox oil to fill up tomorrow when i get back from work and we're ready for start, time and tune take 2 :) Off to bed now folks and fill you in tomorrow with another vid to wet your appetite with more revs and some exhaust cam :hyper:
10. Hello mate :) I haven't starte it yet until I could get the fuel pressure set correctly and the lambda sensor working. Stripped the dash back this evening and managed to locate the missing 6 pin sensor wire and plug it in so now working! The fuel pressure gauge is putting out 5v which does nothing when earthed although the sender gives no change in resistance whether fuel pump on or off so guessing it's a faulty sender. So ordered an inline fuel gauge to go on the regulator on special delivery for tomorrow so I can bolt that in, set the pressure and I'm ready to set the timing properly with the gun knowing I can then see the air/fuel mixture as I'm doing it.
11. Not long at all buddy, will only get a couple of hours on it tonight but i'll make an effort to get a better vid of it revving up just didn't dare do it while the tuning/timing is slightly out :)
12. Haha, what a brill idea :D Well done mate, far more entertaining :)
13. lol, ahh you haven't seen the vid yet then :D I'll be putting another up tonight when i've got it running a bit better but i've got all evening and the weekend to get it right. Hopefully by Sunday it should be mobile, it would drive now but i need to get the final prop shaft bolt in and fill the gearbox/diff before i drop it and get the brakes all cleaned up/bled off before i do drop it off the stands. Also need to sort out the power steering (didn't test it last night but the bottom hose needed ptfe tape as it was leaking)
14. Cheers buddy :hyper: Just reading up on how to adjust the carb and change the jets then i'll be on it tonight to get the timing right and those missing gauges working. Ordered an inline fuel pressure gauge for the engine (it's a bit of bling but saves me keep going in and out of the car all the time to check) Can't wait to get home tonight and fire it up again :hyper:
15. Thanks Mick, hopefully i'll be on the road for Japshow Finale and the Miss Banzai Tunnel Run so if you're at the pod in october i should be there :D I can't wait buddy, still haven't heard yours in the flesh yet but i'm sure they'll both sound awesome so should be a good race for the public watching on! :D It fires clockwise round the dissy and i'd turned it anticlockwise initially (advancing the timing) and it seemed to spit flames out the carb. Turned it clockwise and it seemed to run properly so i'll get the timing light on it tonight and set it up properly. Plus i couldn't check the air fuel mixture because the AEM gauge wasn't moving so need to check all my gauges tonight before i do any more but a massive step forward for me now, just tidying up to do then get it off the ramps and see if it moves! :hyper:
16. Yep, i'll give him some more beans when i've got the pressure and mixture right but can't wait to see what it sounds like at the top end :) Only took it up to 3k last night before the manifolds started glowing red(!) so i'll get that mixture sorted out tonight when i get back and hopefully get the none working gauges to work. lol, he's a worrier, i think he'd die if he'd had to do this project himself! Especially the flames were awesome
17. Cheers buddy :) My brother's worried about everything blowing up whereas i'm trying to see where the explosion's coming from  I'm going to be on the car all evening tuning it so i'll get a better video tonight when i'm back once i've solved the mystery of the missing fuel pressure gauge and missing air fuel mixture gauge :(
18. I'm knackered and hung over today but what an evening :)
19. It's not finished processing the video yet but check it out (especially the flames shooting out the carb and my bro nearly shitting himself as i tried to start it as he was under it) :tongue_smilie:
20. How long's a piece of string? I'm hoping for at least 400bhp if not more, there are cars running near 500bhp with a similar setup but until i get it set up properly it'll be quick but not to its full potential. My aim is eventually when i've got the few bits i couldn't afford for the ignition that i'll be close to 450-475bhp but any more will be a nice suprise :D
21. Cheers craig and cheers to all of you guys, thanks to everyone who's supported me during the project through the highs and lows and to keep me going on this when i was going to give up  The manifolds were glowing after a minute of running so switched it off but it was running perfectly. Heated manifolds means running lean so have to have a read on how to adjust the carb so i'll be back out there tomorrow getting it set up :) It sounds awesome so can't wait to get it under load and hear what it sounds like properly! Just encoding the video then uploading for you all
22. Nifty bit of welding there buddy, well done :D
23. It's alive!!!!!!!!! MWaaaaa hahahahahahahaha :) Just editing the video now....
24. That looks fantastic buddy, nothing like a fresh paint job to really make a car stand out especially with that 99 spec front and rear :)
25. Already ahead of you on that one buddy! I'll be getting the silver car's fire extinguisher out before i start :)
