Oooooh yes I will :) lol definately want the engine starting captured for posterity! 600zx - Finally back to work....
Cheers buddy :) only the last few bits now but should go smoothly, only the risk if there's a petrol leak in the engine bay when the pump's pressurised the system then the rest us just plugging stuff in. Forgot I need to fill the gearbox up and diff and also connect up the alternator. One more evening and hopefully it's just tuning the engine then :)

600zx - Finally back to work....
Good news guys! Emptied the tank out this morning and used the compressor to dry out everything then took a leap of faith and bought some Q-Bond at £14.95 a set which sounds alot but it did the trick! Poured the powder around the leaking pipe inside the tank, squirted the agent over it and 10 seconds later - bingo! Petrol resistant and hard as metal with no leaks! :hyper: I've used some petrol tank sealant around the outside (a bit like isopen filler) and refitted the compression joint with gasket blue in every screw fitting, fitted the new belt, set the distributor and by the time I came back everything had set, filled the tank and no leaks. Finished the fuel pump relay and wiring and hooked up the sender so just the bit in the engine bay, top up the water and crimp the plug leads and were ready to fire him up! Back on it tomorrow! :)

600zx - Finally back to work....
Update for today, i had loads of pictures taken, lots done today and good news and all that has been wiped out by disaster unfortunately folks. The previous owner had welded in a spout onto the bottom of the left hand side of the fuel tank. Just filled the tank lightly with some petrol to check for leaks and guess what? Compression fit is fine, everything is fine but the weld on the tank leaks like a ship with holes in it :headvswal I'm incredibly angry and upset the night before starting the engine up and this crops up. It means removing the whole exhaust system from the bulkhead back, dropping the diff and prop and alot of fiddly work to get it out. Words can't describe how disappointed i am right now

600zx - Finally back to work....
Well as always i've hit a snag on a bank holiday weekend when i need one component to complete the build and it's in the lap of the gods whether anyone'll have it in stock! :headvswal Went to tension up the belt tonight before finally bolting in the rad and hooking up the rad pipes and guess what? Because my engine sits an inch lower than keith's, the anti roll bar interferes with the alternator so the belt won't tension up. SOOO that means either manufacture a larger tensioner pulley or buy a smaller belt. The second option is by far the easiest but the chances of finding a 6 rib serpentine belt, 1600mm long (63") on a bank holiday sunday is looking pretty bleak. I'll keep you guys updated but not looking hopefull about starting the car now until the middle of the week now if i have to wait till Tuesday to place an order for a replacement belt. Keep your fingers crossed for me! On the plus side I have made the rad bracket to hold it in which looks pretty spiffing and mounted up one of the two fans ready to run on the day. Only a couple of heater hoses to connect now and i'll be done. Right off to bed now guys so catch you tomorrow!

600zx - Finally back to work....
Will do buddy, frustrated update after this :headvswal Well you're more than welcome to come and copy blueprints off mine buddy, not that difficult to do if you do it right instead of the wrong way like me  I don't think i'll quite make it to JAE this year but will definately be coming to Japshow Finale to put some rubber down on the track :) Cheer buddy, unfortunately no video of it running yet - and maybe not this weekend :( Read on.....

600zx - Finally back to work....
Cheers fella :D Should look a whole lot more like a clean tidy engine bay by the end of the week when i've finished wiring everything up and run the wires neatly down the side More to come later folks! :hyper:

600zx - Finally back to work....
Cheers guys, Finished all the water pipes into the rad and back and the coolant overflow tank is in place. Back out in a min to sort out the heater pipes, vacuum hoses and fuel regulator bracket. Going to spend the evening getting TDC on cylinder one then setting up the distributor and firing order then cutting crimping the spark plug leads ready, hook up the fuel line, senders for the gauges and then i think we're ready for the start either tomorrow or monday morning depending on what time i get tomorrow with our planned trip. Starting the water pipes: Hardest part done: All done!: And a test fit of the bumper to check the pipes all clear:

Oh christ no, this is 3 litre V6 twin turbo diesel with 22" rims PIIIIIIIIIIIMP  Bloody horrible thing, like driving on a step ladder but can't deny it's fast, comfy and pulls like a trooper even with a 1200kg car on the back :) Onto working on the engine tomorrow! Let's get this baby started :)

Well it's back! :hyper: Exhaust looks great, just the look i was looking for - not too OTT and try to keep it quad like the stock exhaust but with a bit more umph :) I was so excited i woke up at half 6, drove 30 miles to work to pick up the range rover from my mate at work then headed back, picking up the trailer on the way. Eventually set off at half 10 after fixing the broken indicator on the connector. After being stuck in a massive tailback on the M1 reached sheffield and went and saw what they guys at Exhausts UK had done for me. Fantastic job! I gave them 1 and a half manifolds, part of a centre section with the hushpower 2 centre silensors and the x flow attached and the home made back boxes that keith had made with the mini resonator boxes intact. I wasn't even sure if they could use everything but they've done it! They've welded shiny new outward rolled 3" tips on the box, welded some clamp plates on the ends, even managed to keep the mini resonator boxes and silencers with 2 1/2" bore all the way through. The manifold they've managed to fit with a space around the starter motor so no more overheating problems :) The ride height is going to be a real issue with this car. On stock and spare wheels it only has about 2 inches clearance so i have a feeling i might just have to put stock springs on the front to bring the ride height back up again. I'll have to put the 18" wheels back on again and see what happens but i'm sure it rode higher before i took the wheels off(?) Anyway on with the photos :)- Dead air wanted. Yes, pure silence.
Oh my god - that has to be the coolest thing i've ever seen on the 300zx forum :hyper: Amazing :hyper: :hyper:- 300zx conversion
Save your money and just fit a lightened pulley/flywheel, tubular manifolds and tt injectors and you'll be pulling alongside stock twin turbos, making a nicer sound, have much more grunt lower down and believe me from owning both you'll love your na more than you ever thought possible :)- and he survived this airbourne crash
sweet jesus!- 600zx - Finally back to work....
Cheers buddy, i had unfortunately planned to take the other half away for a weekend's break camping on Saturday for 2 days but if the weather's this bad we might not be able to go and we'll have to save it for another weekend - oh no! :innocent: - 600zx - Finally back to work....
Cheers buddy :D It's pretty dead if it is the lock barrel. Titanium key works fine on the other barrel but not this one but tbh i'm going to do away with the lock barrels completely when i get the alarm fitted next week, smooth off the handle surrounds completely and respray. Loads of little jobs to do including spraying and fitting the sideskirts and the new 95 spec spoiler i've got :) Cheers Andy, as soon as i've got it started i'll be uploading the vid that day so fingers crossed that'll either be tomorrow evening or saturday if i'm delayed (and believe me i'm expecting something to take some time as always!)- About to embark on an engine swap....
If you're going to that trouble you might as well put a V8 in it :D- 600zx - Finally back to work....
Morning all, well it's been a quiet week all in all. I needed a bit of a break off the project to get the feeling back in my fingers and get my back straight again  Plus i've had my hand forced with the car being up in Sheffield but it's coming home tomorrow :hyper: I'm off about 10ish tomorrow to drive up to sheffield and pick it back up on the trailer then i've got the whole day booked off to get it ready to start. Jobs list for tomorrow is as follows: Tension up belts and followers on the front of the engine Fit the radiator properly Fit all water pipes in place Fit and hook up electric fan and controller before setting a rough temp cut in with a heat gun Screw in lambda sensor to passenger manifold Hook up temp sender and oil pressure sender Hook up earth cable to starter motor casing Hook up alternator wire Prime the engine and bearings with the drill attachment Run temporary power on a switch to both the distributor and the fuel pump Find top dead centre on cylinder 1 and then align the capless distributor to position one and crimp/hook up all spark leads/plugs/boots Fill up with fuel Turn the key! :scooter: :punk: Get revs up to 2k and hold for 20 mins to break the cam in Additional tuning (e.g. re-jetting, mixture adjustment etc) Fill gearbox, diff and bleed brakes (possibly swap callipers for the willwoods while i'm at it) Roll it out the garage under it's own steam and see what happens! :D I won't get it all done tomorrow unless i'm in there till god knows what time plus i don't really want to be breaking in a 6.3 litre engine at 2k at 2am unless I want an asbo  I reckon by Saturday lunchtime we should be about ready for the first start on the key (well button in engine bay anyway! lol) Exciting times are ahead boys and girls! :hyper: - 600zx - Finally back to work....
