  1. Sorry for any wrong information here, but my z doesn't have this unit in this position, it has a unit behind the kick panel next to the throttle marked pump control unit..... Because it's NA maybe?
  2. Behind the kick panel next to throttle pedal, remove the whole panel and you'll see it.
  3. You could even present your car to me with no bumpers fitted, providing your displaying your reg plates and any required lights are present I will give you a pass....
  4. It also states that the method for inspection is to assess subjectively the effectiveness of the silencer at reducing noise, Stephen asked if missing back boxes was a fail, which it isn't, and as I said if his particular car with no back boxes was still not "excessively" loud then it would pass fine, and I also said that if no exhaust was fitted from say the down pipes back then that might well fail on it's level of noise. Think of something like a TVR chimaera for example, how loud are they at 3000rpm? Can I fail it? No. I may not know what a standard exhaust sounds like or looks like on a Z32 so I cannot be SURE if I'm hearing one during a test. MANY grey areas exist on an mot......
  5. Subtle.... As a brick in the face
  6. In all honesty the mot is pretty pointless, the majority of cars on the road now have that much underbelly plastic bolted to them you can't see sod all to test it properly, if you can't see it you can't test it, it really is just a waste of time...
  7. Not an outright fail because your particular car with its straight through exhaust pipe might not be "excessively" loud to me, therefore I can and will happily pass it, the key word is excessively, what one perceives as excessive will differ with another, an element of doubt has crept in and as usual we must always give the benefit of doubt to the vehicle presenter, pass and advise......
  8. I would happily pass it mate, but the rozzers might hunt you down.....
  9. Dangling sensors or probes mean nothing to me as an mot tester, I cannot be sure or refer to any database to check for cat fitment as Joel stated, therefore I must pass it, as for exhaust being loud, we don't possess db meters so we cannot fail it for being loud unless for example it didn't have any exhaust from down pies back. Same thing with tinted front windows, they can be black as you like and I will happily pass your car on the mot, but mr plod will still give u a ticket.... Silly but that's how it is.
  10. It's another rule which is almost impossible for us testers to enforce, who knows what car had a cat fitted previously?..... Any doubt as usual is given a pass and advise.
  11. I'm sure he will be along shortly......
  12. But surely you are looking and thinking back to cars of years gone by with the current style of cars in mind, I'm sure nobody in 1989 thought the Z32 was dated then or thought the interior was dull or that the fact it shared designs of earlier cars was an issue, I think the interior of a Sierra cosworth was just fine for its time, and as for higher spec cars of years gone by sharing parts of lower models is true, it is still true of today's cars, cars are just put together from a vast array of generic parts from all over the world, cars have evolved as has everything in life, but I never look back at old cars and think yuk, let's be honest how many of today's cars will be around or regarded as a classic in 25 years time?......
  13. Begs the question why u bought a z32 then alic? Of course it looks old its from the 90's..... but for me at least its a big part of the reason i like the z32 so much, classic 90's japanese styling, if u dont like the bland plastic look then i guess you had better remove your entire interior
  14. Ahem..... Thurrock services? - - - Updated - - - Count me in :thumbup1:
  15. I fancy a bit of this, great idea Paul count me in :thumbup1:
  16. I might need a copy of that photo of your better half next to my car Arthur, it may make a great photo for a for sale advert if I ever decide to!
  17. What a great day! great route you chose Howard :thumbup1: weather was great too, thanks to everyone who joined in, especially to chris and jo and Darren who travelled a fair distance for this meet! Another faultless 200 miles on the clock. This would be a great annual event which I would make every effort to attend.
  18. You will need to use a TT rear prop half to attach it to the diff flange as the NA uses a uj and the TT uses a cv joint, you will need to space your starter motor out from the bell housing to accommodate the larger TT flywheel, if your manual gearbox has the external oil cooler connections just get a pipe made up at a hydraulic shop and loop it, use a new stainless hydraulic line straight from the clutch master to the slave, use a new slave cylinder and rebuild your master cylinder before you fit it. Good luck :clover:
  19. No doubt someone clever could retrofit a modern day coil on plug system using a built in IGBT removing the need for a S1 or S2 PTU altogether.
  20. What are these points you speak of? Some kind of witchcraft?
  21. As u will be passing thurrrock services i will expect to see you there at 8 am
  22. How does 8am at thurrock services sound chris? Leave around 8:15 be at boxhill for 9
  23. The problem is the clearance, the front drive on a skyline runs through the engine sump so using a complete engine and drivetrain from a gtr would be the best option I think, could be done, but would you really want to?
