  1. I agree totally with bolt, I was getting worried about my engine because of all you hear on here about them.breaking. Mine taps cold and in the first 20 seconds after start if ive had a fuel stop or something till the oil gets about. I met jimmer at croft and he said my engine seemed pretty good, it's easy to worry about these cars. My car loves to be driven it stood for two months while I was in the flatlands and ran like a bag of smokey hammers for about 10 miles then started to purr, like a lion :-)
  2. Mine has recirc valves and if I have the roof off I van hear that it still sneezes a bit when I change gear or lift from boost. A nice "K-tshhhh" noise.
  3. Having the best post det leave ever. Oil change with filter and used some liquid gasket to stop the weep from the sandwich plate. Did some rather A level prone position soldering which got the oil temp gauge working again where the spade connector was crap. Fuel filter change and only lost about a spoonful of fuel into the towel :ninja: I also serviced the sensible car, oil and filter, plugs, magnecor leads, K&N panel filter. And while I was in there I had a good look at what could be causing my braking judder, it's nothing suspension related it must be crap Ebay discs and me not bedding them in properly :headvswal And I stuck the A pillar trim up properly, that's been falling on my head for a year now!
  4. Mate if you could that would be great, don't see them being different I'll do some googling.
  5. I'll keep an eye out for one, thanks for the advice mate :-)
  6. Ah bugger, I'll have to get back at the fpmu and get a soldering iron out see if I can get that pin connection sorted, I just hope the heat hasn't damaged the fpmu.
  7. I think I have, so that's no bad thing other than noise and the oem fuel pressure regulator will be working harder as it will be returning loads of fuel to the tank. And the pump will be working harder. I'll put that another way then, that's a bad thing.
  8. Oh yes lol the car has a heat haze above it in this weather. But it seems strange that simply earthing it the way I have rather than through that fuel pump metering unit would make it buzz so loud, or is it just getting old?
  9. Yeah I did, I don't think that it's just me being more aware of it, it is louder??? Do they provide a constant pressure or more or less in different conditions? I may have locked it into full pressure all the time?
  10. I need some help guys, since I did this the fuel pump whirs very loudly, have I done something I shouldn't have done.
  11. He was a top bloke was telling me about how he is a rally Co driver on a weekend lol didn't seem like a bull shitter. And he liked his cars. I haven't done anything dangerous have I by bypassing the earth like that, what does that ecu in the back do???
  12. What I will say is that people were utter knobs when I broke down at the lights, I was in the middle but tried to go left when it died to get onto a less major road, my poor mate was trying to push but as people under took us I had to brake, including a police car. I was there 3 minutes and thank God a scooby owner stopped blocking the traffic and helped push.
  13. Yesterday after all that polishing as a thankyou I let my cousin drive my car and twice I thought he stalled it. Today I was driving through the middle of Newcastle and I stalled at some lights, but I hadn't stalled at all and it would not start. It turned fine and occasionally sounded like it was trying to start but just wouldn't. I thought it was fuel related perhaps blocked filter or something having had the car stand and the way I always run it low and had just filled it higher than normal. Anyway unusually I had left the took kit at home so had to ring the AA. We realised the fuel pump wasn't whirring and got the boot floor up and cracked out a multi meter. We found no earth and traced the wire forwards. Behind the back left interior panel where your left elbow would be if sat there we found... We reasoned that it had jiggled loose arced and slowly knackered the connection. So we cleaned it up the fuel pump fired up and I had nearly got home when it cut out on full boost in second. I quickly shifted into fourth so I could coast as far as I could but keep the engine running to give the turbos a few seconds of oil to give them every chance, poor things. I called a mate who escorted me to his as the car restarted and I got the boot floor up and back seats out again. I disconnected and insulated the repaired wire and earthed the fuel pump direct to a screw in the boot. The car started drove normally and hasn't played up again, all in all a fun day out in the sun with my zed. Phones playing up, another picture in the next post...
  14. Hello welcome, beautiful red zed mate :-)
  15. Spent 6 hours cleaning it with my cousin. Only took 20 mins off to buy more polish. The full works, interior clean, windows polished and cutting compounded, rubbers treated, washed, cut back, clay barred, polished, waxed, wheels off cleaned and polished. Driven 80 miles in the sun never missed a beat.
  16. Spent hours cleaning it, lots of dust and polish residue and all sorts post respray in the seams and shuts. So used a credit card and cloth round all that. Used auto glym gel on all the rubbers and black bits then fitted a strut brace. Drove it roof off windows down awesome. Strut brace makes a subtle difference better feedback from the front end on turn in I thought. Had to remove and thread a fuel line through the brace, as we all know it's a game of tetris under that bonnet.
  17. I wouldn't feel bad about it, I wouldn't bump up a kerb, a drop kerb yes but I agree with above that you would never get compensation if you were damaged. I've heard of alloys being refurbished for pot hole damage but I bet it took a lot of paperwork.
  18. Yeah I'm a happy man all be it with mega jet lag. The wheels mate are rota GTR s from mark derby 18 inch by 9 I think, 265s at the back. It is beautiful here I just got over my Falklands scurvy, I've gone from milk white to sunburn just done about 5 hours mountain biking eaten some fresh vegetables and had some real milk, I've been missing all of those things lol. Thanks for all the comments guys Tomorrow it gets a good clean as there's quite a bit of rubbing compound and polish dust in the panel gaps.
  19. 4 new good Mark derby speakers to go in, strut brace to go on, looking at clutches and flywheels every day and still can't decide. Toying with the idea of D2s or K-Sports and I'll be dropping in on Mondo soon for some Alcantara rather than the fuzzy felt it has atm.
  20. Just got back from two cold months in the Falklands and I have come back to beautiful hot England and my car was ready to be collected from the paint shop. I am very happy, very happy indeed. Driving past shop windows is amazing! Before During After Ill give it a bloody good wash and wax and get some SLR photos taken somewhere nice. Thanks to Mark for the wheels. a lot of the new bits are obvious but basically the front and back were badly fitted and rough now they are immaculate. And a bit of rust the size of a 50 p was cut out of the rear wing, the only rust found on the car or under! Brand new MOT on it and as before 430 fwhp, an absolute joy to drive.
  21. I will do what I can, I'm coming off shift that morning at 10 in Alnwick.
  22. I chatted to jimmer at croft, he was a top bloke and we discussed some options from rebuild through to major work producing fire spitting power and it was less than I had expected. Have a word with him. Still a chunk of money but you would have the engine of a supercar.
  23. I was stood on the hill by the hairpin all day, wish I'd been near the other end now because that cold tires third gear spin was an awesome save! Good work. It was great seeing two zeds amongst the usual scoobys evos and skylines, good luck at snetterton.
  24. Mine taps cold from the top, fairly loud quite embarrassing, I put an additive in did nothing but regular oil changed quiet it down. It only taps for 5 minutes on start.
