This anyones on here for sale
This car was for sale by a Trader in Wakefield a few months back. I went to view and test drove it. The body work while rust and rot free was very battered and scratched up. Mechanically seemed ok, but the auto box was hiding something, might be minor, but was very lazy a sluggish with its shifts and blunted the cars performance. I have driven a good auto Z so can compare. The engine bay was very scruffy & very dirty with obvious nuts and bolts missing from such things a coils pack brackets and the like. It would appear someone as bought it and spent money on the cosmetics, but then why sell it on?? Overall, it wasn't a bad car, but I didn't buy it and that was with the Trader knocking money off without any haggling! This is NOT a 2 previous owner car though, I did a Irish HPI on it. The new buyer will be number 6, the Chairman on Nissan Ireland a distant memory! Still not many for an old car. People are such liars, a little caution required! I will send him a message regarding the number of owners, bet he doesn't change the ad.

Gullwing doors
With the RX8 there is a little thought required around cold starting. Ignition coils are more of a consumable, requiring changing around the 30k mark, when these go bad, reliability goes bad, fuel consumption increases and power drops. These are really important on the RX8. There is no timing chain, no head gasket, just essentially one moving part! You can bang a turbo on these reasonably easy too!

Gullwing doors
Well, everyone as their own experiences with different cars, could have been a bad egg, with a hard life before your time with it. Dare I say it, in many respects its a better car than the Zed, for me its simply not fast enough and too common, otherwise I'd have my own! Plus I just love the look of a 300zx.

Gullwing doors
Ouch! That stings. My wife happens to own a 53reg 192 RX8 with just 30k on the clock. We've had it for ~3years or so. Its been 1000% reliable, breezed its MOTs and contrary to popular belief doesn't use gallons of oil. Fuel consumption is no worse than the Zed typically 26-28mpg. I also have to say, its well built, handles brilliantly, feels like a proper sports car & even with just ~190bhp it is pretty swift. The low torque figure (by turbo diesel standards) of ~160ft/ibs never feels a problem. IMO a really good car. Yes the engine is quirky, but a little education goes a long way!

speedo fitment

speedo fitment
Simples! You will need to open up the units and swap over the speedo/boost gauge sections and also the odometer section as the gearing is different to make the difference between miles and kms. Opening up the units is actually very easy so don't be put off by that. Take your time, work methodically and you'll figure it out. This will work, trust me!

Drivers door won't open
Is the door currently fully closed at the moment? What I mean is, is it stuck closed, but on the safety catch, bit like a bonnet catch? Because I've had this when the door is in this position, it wont open from inside or out. The door needs bumping fully closed then it opens properly again! Otherwise you could try pulling the surround off from around the door lever and have a look at the connecting rods, maybe the door open rod has come off the handle lever connection. It is the top one. Have a look, you'll see what I mean.

Rare - You'd have to love your Z very very much !!
^^^ Yes, that's what I thought actually!:)

Now you do not see that everyday
On the subject of diffs, can any decent mechanic fit a lower ratio gear set to a diff? Like the 4:10 leader Gear set?

Rare - You'd have to love your Z very very much !!
^^^No, not standard on the Z, but maybe on a fully loaded 99 spec, I think they were optional extras on the 99 spec.

Is the cost of having a Zed worth it - seriously in need of motivation now, help!
Definitely try the classic car insurance route. My 1990 SWB TT manual - £152 for the year, 5k miles, 34 years old FNCB. Garaged though.

N/A brakes and pads?
Rears are the same, fronts are smaller on the NA. As for where from, the usual suspects - MJP (forum trader), EBay etc

Steering wheel off centre issue.
Thanks for the chat Jeff. All sorted now, indeed it was an issue with the HICAS steering sensor itself. I had to get Datascan to read 0 degrees then remove the sensor pickup from the back of the sensor unit, then turn the rotating section till it was 'straight' - horn connector and 12 o clock. Then refit sensor pickup and recheck the reading. Had to do this a few times as the sensor pickup is very sensitive and alters 1 degree or 2 very easily. Once satisfied with a 0 degree reading at dead 12 o clock I refitted the sensor to the steering shaft that I'd already got as straight as possible. The wheel now sits level and the HICAS computer now reads straight. Now I can get my tracking done to a straight steering wheel and all should be good!

Steering wheel off centre issue.
Hi Chaps. My Z steering wheel sits off centre whilst driving straight. Wasn't too fussed because I've got to change the TRE's and tension rod bushes so thought would sort by getting the tracking done when I've finished. However, whilst playing with Datascan, when I hold the wheel dead straight, the HICAS steering angle sensor shows out by a few degrees. Now I don't think tracking will sort this will it, because they'll just track the car with the wheel straight, but the HICAS sensor will still read out which I believe will turn off HICAS as it will read as constantly turning slightly? So, I guess my wheel as been removed and put back on wrong at some time? So do I need to remove my wheel and reposition it on the straight whilst the rack displays dead straight with Datascan? Then get the tracking done after the suspension work. Any thoughts, does that sound about right? Cheers.

Top 3
Best thing for me... Reversing the previous owners mods and returning to OEM - mostly. Worst thing done... Jacking it up in the wrong place is a bad idea!
