WANTED: Standard OEM manual shifter.
Hi. Anyone got their old stock manual shifter kicking about after they fitted a short shifter? Its for a twin turbo if it makes any difference? Thanks...

When should bushes be replaced
What about changing them based on condition? I remember changing some old bushes on my last Z. When I got the old one out and compared it to the new one there was no difference! Of course I went ahead, fitted the new part and back on the road there was also knack all difference! If you can see/feel they are knackered fair enough, otherwise consider leaving alone unless you have time and money to burn. I need to change my tension rod bushes and rear drop links, but I can clearly see these are leaking/split.

Whats the pipe please?
Hi Chaps. Wondering what this pipe is please. Passenger front wheel well, comes from behind the front bumper area and goes what seems to be into the frame rail. Its a dead end pipe with just a slit opening on the end of it. Is it from the carbon canister vent? Just doing a bit of tidying up. Fully removed all AIV and PRVR components. Thanks...

air con not working
I can't remember how, but if you press a certain 2 buttons in a certain way it puts the air con pod in to diagnosis mode in which you can scroll through the sensors and it tells you what they are reading. This includes the external sensor, I used to check that one all the time when I had my series 2 Z. Sorry I can't remember how, sure someone will know...

Any electronic techs out there!
Does not switching the sidelights on immediately light up the ignition ring so you can see where to put the key?

Standard airboxes
 TBH just like the idea of binning the filter elements each year and replacing with new ones which with the Apexi and such like is more expensive. Doubt I'll ever get it concourse, but hopefully in time it'll get close! I like a standard car bar wheels, exhaust & a mild power increase! Don't mind subtle trim mods and the like either, but really feel Nissan got this car spot on back in 1989! I'll be looking to refit the standard gear shifter soon too! Its currently got a short shifter.

Standard airboxes
I figured the elements were the same, but wondered if the actual air box is the same. I currently have a cone filter fitted and want to revert back to stock, I have access to an NA breaker so want to know if they're the same? Cheers...

Standard airboxes
Evening Chaps. Can anyone tell me for sure if the standard NA air box is exactly the same as the TT. I think it is because there is no separate listing for air filters, but want to be sure! I have access to an NA breaker that's all. Cheers...

A bit of research in to a monaro
I love the look of the old Trans-am too, but I bet they are very 'classic' to drive, possible even pants! Never meet your Hero and all that.

A bit of research in to a monaro
It was 100% reliable, only had it serviced at Monkfish Performance. Though whilst I had it they always found something worn that needed replacing. My car only had 28k on it, but already required new top mounts, drop-links all round, prop-shaft bearing. They are known for eating suspension components and there is plenty to look out for including gearbox issues, leaking front power steering coolers, but they are not unreliable cars, typical of forums they condense problems and can some times scare. Build quality was very good actually, not top draw though, certainly as good as the Z. Ride quality excellent, very comfortable.

A bit of research in to a monaro
Here's my old one, the one I've just sold up and replaced with a SWB 300zx TT (hint) ;) Had a Z, bought this, sold this, wanted another Z! Lovely car. Excellent value for money ATM, mine was excellent, but there are a lot of unnecessarily scruffy ones about now. Fuel consumption really not bad, performance strong, but not faster than a TT ZED standard. Modifications are limited and expensive. Note it is a very big car. My SWB Z is much smaller in all dimensions bar width.

kph to mph speedo conversion question
Really not sure if this helps you. My car is a series 1, currently swapping mine out for a UK spec clock set  I thought a member on here had 2 UK clocks for sale at £40 each, would recommend doing this for accurate power steering and rear steering control, but otherwise here's a pic...

Cruise control
There are 2 micro switches on the back of the auto brake pedal, one is the brake light switch, the other the CC cancel switch. If the CC cancel switch has failed it will act as if your always on the pedal and stop the CC latching for obvious reasons, although the brake lights won't be on because that's the other switch. On a manual car, there is yet another switch on the clutch pedal which cancels the CC when the clutch pedal is pressed. With my first Z, my CC had failed, it was the switch on the brake pedal that had broke inside. Cost about £35 from a main dealer surprisingly.

Odd revving/ power loss problem
Sounds like your car is dropping into safety boost mode. First off try running a basic ECU check using the following guide http://www.zmods.org/index.php?page=ecu_diag I would guess you might get a code 13 with the symptoms you describe. Probably wrong though!

Low mileage UK Z
Interesting this, because I went to view it and believed the mileage was genuine! I was shown all the Irish MOT paperwork and the mileage all tallied up. I also did an Irish HPI check and the inputted mileage of 35k showed no discrepancies. Also the lack of wear on the seats was an indication of low mileage and interesting all the white symbols on all the switch gear was spot on to which is all worn off on high milers. Otherwise a bit tatty. The bodywork was tatty. Dings and scratches everyway. Auto box seemed sluggish, viscous fan was locked full on. In the cars defence the chassis and bodywork had ZERO rot which is amazing for an 18yr old car that's lived in Ireland all its life. Again tallies with the mileage. The one owner is bull, IIRC the seller is the 4th and its had 3 Irish owners which is still not bad. Certainly not owner by Nissan's chairman all its life! Worth a look at the right price. Oh and it is a 94 car.

Unknown device under steering.
Hi Chaps. Making a start on cleaning up my new Zed, already removed the turbo timer. Found this device behind the panel under the steering wheel. Anybody know what it is and can I bin it? Thanks.

My point is that if the car has cats fitted and is NOT smoking then the tubs are (in that setup) working ok and have not failed. The seals in that instance are not leaking or else you would get smoke! Now when the car is decatted, then smoking starts, the seals on the tubs have then failed, the reduction in back pressure is the cause. Think about it, a car is running in a particular configuration for 18years and 80,000miles and then suddenly something is suddenly changed - you can understand the failure. I'm not doubting that the seals are weak and that changing the tubs is the solution to stopping the smoke, but I'm saying if the cats are put back and the smoke stops then the seals are obviously holding again otherwise the smoke would continue. The standard back pressure is essentially supporting the seals. Now if people would rather spend £3k in new tubs rather than popping the cats back on then fair enough.

Will agree to disagree on that then. IMO back pressure / age of car has everything to do with it. Surely cats on, no smoke no problem. If it stops smoking, its not masking a problem cos there is no problem. These cars were designed and built with chosen tubs and a manufacture design & tested exhaust system with a known back pressure. These cars are old, but can work perfectly for years without problem until we decide to start modding. Very often this can cause problems. In cases such as exhausts/decats/turbos it often does. Bet many folk on here over the years have decatted to then find a smoke problem. Sure I've seen a poll showing as much.

Put the cats back on - bet your smoking stops!! You have really lowered the back pressure by removing them and the tub seals are passing at idle and smoking. From what I understand, decatting any turbo car especially old ones like ours is risky and many start to smoke afterwards! Its a 50/50 gamble.:headvswal
