  1. I agree. The stock brakes aren't too bad, but they still suck compared to say my 2015 pug 308gt, that thing makes your eyes pop. That's the kind of brakes one would expect from a sportscar of the zx's caliber, so no wonder many people complain and want upgrades :-)
  2. I want bright white light to. And a friend of mine recently purchased some new headlights for his scion and they came with led bulbs, with big cooling fins on the back. He was well pleased with the light output, bright white light, same light pattern and spread as stock halogens. So that got me thinking. Cause I have considered xenon but that means adding additional wiring so the low beams always stay on. Leds can go on/off without trouble and always have 100% light output immediately. Most of what I have read puts these bulbs somewhere between a halogen and a xenon bulb. Here's an American who tried it, http://jsworks.org/2014/05/31/z32-led-headlight-retrofit/ I don't think there's enough room behind the headlight for a led bulb of this type in the high beams? Could do nightbreaker bulb or something like that
  3. And not the cheap small ones that barely make a light glow but the ones with the big cooling fins and/or cooling fans...
  4. Is it the stock ecu chip? That's soldered on to the printboard so you would need a soldering iron, solder sucker or solder wick. Then after removal you would solder in the new chip or a socket so you could easily swap chips without the need to solder. If you search YouTube for "nistune" there should be a video where they show the process of removing the stock ecu chip
  5. Here's a good article on intake temps and also intercooler water spray https://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html%3F%26A%3D107796&sa=U&ved=0CBoQFjAHahUKEwjo-ZCDosHHAhXClHIKHQGDAeQ&client=internal-uds-cse&usg=AFQjCNFuXB2vstQ4F0PMGQZBUBjeN_pGxg
  6. Mine was swapped in 2001, and 2010. So that's ten years between each change... Some say it should be replaced every five years, some say every 7. If mileage is not reached. But I have never read a servicemanual on the zx that states years as interval. Only mileage... Why is that? I've nevertheless bought a new belt as five years is long enough for me.... Nissan belt or Gates belt seems to be the recommended
  7. I would probably end up in minus doing that too :-D
  8. I fitted my oem rears since one tire failed horrible at a track event. I almost think they look better than the 17's so I thinking about swapping the fronts too... But. Looking at the info on the sidewall, these said "retreaded made in England". Who puts retreads on a sportscar? Cheap *******... I'll be grannydriving 'till I get some new wheels then ?
  9. Cheapest is to swap the shield, or grind your current one flat. But that means your adjusters have to work so you can adjust it down afterwards... I take it flat beam pattern is allowed in the UK? Many people did this mod to skylines being registered in Scandinavia to get headlights legal...
  10. Same thing here. The ez street coilovers I used on my previous 300 was pretty similar in ride quality to stock. Only slightly stiffer going over speedbumps and other sharp bumps. But they're all adjustable so can be made stiffer or softer depending on your personal preference. :-)
  11. I think modifying is like fashion, tastes changes, I remember around the time when fast and the furious came out and how everybody put mad bodykits and lights and whatnot on their car and I loved it, I'm guilty myself of that. Some time ago I found an old album with pictures from a car show from that time and I was just like wow! What did they do to that poor car? Not to say I don't appreciate the work they put in, by all means, but not something I would drive around in nowadays. Talking to some other people at a track event a few weekends ago about styling and such and how it seemed everybody had moved away from that tftf stuff it was like mentioning the 80's to people who lived through it, so much shame :-D
  12. How much lower are we talking? Slight drop or on the floor? I'm assuming that since your asking about coilovers then you want more drop then most lowering springs can provide. Just be aware that low doesn't necessarily mean better handling. When you lower a car you also change the suspension geometry and it's roll center meaning body roll can actually increase as you lower. Also, on the zx the suspension geometry gets f.upped when you start to lower it, meaning you will need adjustable upper arms along with your coilovers to get camber dialled in afterwards, adjustable tension rods might also be needed. When choosing coilovers pick some that are meant for street driving like megan racing ez street or powertrix ss(street sport). To stiff will only be a pita after a while unless you have buttersmooth roads where you live.
  13. If they're pre-2000 then date code is often 3 digits. So my tyre stamped 519 is produced in week 51 year 1999
  14. Actually they're goodyear eagle F1 tyres, not re-moulds or anything. Just plain old, I think we read the dot code as 519 which would mean they're over 15 years old. So that probably explained the crappy handling, the wild understeer when pushed in corners and the insanely fast loss of grip as i tried to do a powerslide, donut and similar but only ended up with my arse facing the wrong direction... Anyways, wasn't my intention to thread jack, just give you all a heads up
  15. I like the z31, but it has to be the facelift model. I think the design is all kinds of 80's cool. My neighbor has one, just to bad he likes the drugs more than actual work and stuff that might have kept this on the road... Refuses to sell it too which is even more of a shame as it deserves to be with someone who wants to restore this, not sit outdoors all year round, rain or shine...
  16. Be careful with old tires, this happened to me last weekend on a track event: Had to limp home with the spare tire, not funny...
  17. Fogs should never be used in conjunction with dipped beams, your projecting far to much light in the forefront of your car drawing your eyes attention down to what's right infront of you instead of what's further up ahead. A fog light is just that, a light for foggy and adverse weather conditions, when your driving slow and need to see what's directly in front of the car because the dipped and high beams aren't doing you any good. Usually just creating glare and blinding you. I don't know about the UK but here in Norway fog lights can be used in conjunction with parking lights AS driving lights during daylight. But never fogs and dipped together and never after dark. Rear fogs are illegal unless correct conditions apply(bad weather)
  18. Are you lowered on coilovers?
  19. De-tangoed my euro indicator/parking lights :-)
  20. So there's actually a factory skirack option for the Z! http://ord.yahoo.co.jp/o/auction/_ylt=A7dPFfdTO8FVTnMAokRAPDh8;_ylu=X3oDMTBhMWw0ZHR1BHZ0aWQDQVMwMDE-/SIG=129e578mn/EXP=1438813395/**http%3a//page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/191335429 If mine wasn't a summer car only I'd totaly buy this and use it for trips up the mountain!
  21. Be wary of cheap boost controllers! Especially the ebay/china stuff. I blew up and engine in my datsun because one couldn't keep the pressure and peaked at over a bar of boost, sucks when you only have petrol enough for a half... Almost blew a turbo primera with the same one, that's when I bought a forge motorsport one...
  22. bought this awesome sweater in red of course to match my ag2 Z :D http://teespring.com/legends1?utm_source=buyer-c1&utm_medium=email_trans&utm_campaign=subject_line_test2&utm_content=campaign_link&utm_swu=6824
  23. Don't buy a cordless one at least....unless you buy spare batteries, they'll always go empty in the middle of a job it seems. I have a battery powered dremel now but only after using it one time I missed my old corded one.
