  1. Water and tinfoil is great for polishing chrome, and super cheap ;-)
  2. I didn't have the foam support on the lower part on mine, held up just fine
  3. Thanks. Yesterday I had it approved by the "dmv" so now all I have to do is pay a one time tax to get it registered. I also jacked it up trying to service the front brakes but the right side rotor is too warped so they need to be swapped, also the pads because they dust like hell! Not the easiest car to jack up Also I crawled underneath to check how bad it would hurt to change the downpipes without removing the transmission and that's when I found a drop of transmission oil underneath, it seems to be coming from the side somewhere so does anyone know what places that could leak on the side and top? The speed sensor is one but what else is there?
  4. I sold my black zx twin turbo roughly three years ago and regretted it ever since, had 280Z with a turbo swap in the meantime but there's something about the z32 that attracts me. So about four weeks ago I took a chance, bought a one way ticket to stockholm and picked up a bone stock 91 TT 2+2 with 85000km's on the clock, full history and a bucketload of receipts and stuff. Not mint but with a little tlc it'll get there. First I had to recolor the bolsters on the seat, they where pretty worn and white. Managed to get it black again with swissvax leather color and products. The outside is suffering from a lot of stone chips on the hood and nose panel, the plastic under front windshield is pretty worn so I'm gonna get that painted soon with plastic paint. Then there's the rear wing which has deteriorated and since it's red the paint had started to fade a little especially on the plastic bumpers. Two days of detailing and the paint is looking good again! Managed to hide/camouflage some of the chipping but eventually I will get the nose panel, hood and rear hatch repainted. Somewhere in Sweden... You can see especially the front bumper is faded.... Lovin' the speedlimits in Sweden :) Time to pay some taxes to the state... :( You can also see the textured paint on the lower part of the car is pretty faded along with holograms and swirls on the fenders and rear hatch... Then I took a ferry trip across the Oslofjord enroute to the biggest Datsun/Nissan meet in Norway in Kristiansand, look at how small the Z looks behind that skoda Clocked in over 800kms in one stint on that drive from stockholm to kristiansand and the ZX performed flawlessly, such a tourer! That was friday, saturday was the big meet, made some new friends. These are rare cars here in Norway so always great when you meet others! Plans for this car now is first to get it registered here in Norway. Then deal with the rear hatch and spoiler(still undecided if going with the oem wing or the newer 99 spec one) Want some nicer wheels either bbs lm wheels in gold (expensive!) or the enkei rpf1(because racecar) JDM indicators and foglights. Gonna do some bolt on engine upgrades as my previous one had some work done and this actually feels sluggish compared to that one :P Lower it.
  5. I had a 280z, California import. And for some reason the ac was removed (probably because racecar). But not only that, even the heater and all the associated bits where gone... Not a pleasant ride home in the rain with all the windows fogging up....
  6. You don't need to wash it again after claying, if your using a good quick detailer while claying you're already cleaning it, proceed with a compound cleaner or go straight to polish and wax depending on the condition of the paint(chips, swirls, stripes etc) And to you who used two bottles of detailer spray on one car; that's overkill...
  7. Then I'm pretty cool, I still have the original titanium key, along with the black and the red valet key, even got the 25 year old key pouch from the dealer in Germany :-D But I do have a 2015 pug 308 GT line with keyless and start/stop. I have to say the push button start with the key in my pocket is pretty nice, no fettling with keys just get in and go :-) the start/stop technology is okay sometimes but can be a nuisance if you're trying to creep or hold back the car (mines auto) so it's nice to have the option of disabling it...
  8. Loose this, loose that... Just put more boost in it that'll make up for it ;-) at least that's my take on things.... I like my creature comforts :-)
  9. Smoke on decel sounds like a seal in the turbo, but it could also be a valve stem seal. My ca18det started like that and I thought it was the turbo but after a short while it was smoking on idling, cruising under no load etc, turned out to be a valve seal. But yours sound like it's turbo related since you have good compression and your leakdown test is good.
  10. Here's what I ended up with Then drove it 814kms from Stockholm Sweden to Kristiansand in Norway... It made friends with a couple of other z's... It's got 85000km on the clock, is all stock (even got the oem wheels) and is in fairly good shape. A few nicks and scratches and of course a rotted rear wing. But can anyone tell me what's.going on here:
  11. Guess it's happening then! Just bought a oneway ticket to Stockholm to pick up a red 2+2 TT manual, all stock except wheels.
  12. When I say modify I don't mean it in the sense of bodykits, bling and other hideous stuff, I mean it in the sense of bringing out the hidden performance one can get by choosing the correct mods, suspension, brakes and intake/exhaust kind of stuff. Plus the 99 front end, I love those :-D
  13. This time it looks like I'm gonna end up with a red one. Which is also nice as long as it's maintained properly... :)
  14. The dream car was up for sale not long ago, infact it was the one I sold a couple of years back... Bought it somewhat stock, only mods where a slight increase in boost, the clutch and timing belt was also replaced, so it was a solid foundation, all I did was upgrade intercoolers and airfilter, jdm 99 front end, taillights, chrome instrument rings and a good stereo, lowered and a different set of wheels.... Nothing crazy, just a subtle refinement of an already great car. Unfortunately I don't have the money to buy it back, well I could if I would but that would mean parting with the motorcycles and my lovely old datsun 720 :P Boys and their toys I suppose... The one modded I was looking at was sold now so that narrows it down, don't know why I started this thread as I probably already know the answer :P
  15. So I finally have the money and the space to get myself a z again. I have the chance of getting a completely stock 91 model with low miles, but how long will it be stock? I owned one before so I know there will be things I want to change... Do I get the stock one, and mod it to my likings knowing exactly what has been done and that it's done properly or do I pay a little more for an already modded example unsure of specifics? :-/
  16. The v6 twinturbo swap is a difficult one as the engine is so wide. But you can get the engine further back so weight distribution could be better, also leaves heaps of space up front for different coolers. It's doable but I think I'd rather would have done a straight 6 swap. If not a Nissan one then a 2jz or something. The easiest by far is the zx turbo swap, bolts straight in. I had mine up an running in five days, two of them only working a couple of hours and one day welding a new exhaust. And the stock l28et has 200hp stock. Put an intercooler and a good exhaust on there, up the boost 0.2 bar, all in a car weighing half a ton less than the z32 and you're getting there! Stuff an lsd in the back and it really gets good. It's a great handling car for its age. A friend of mine had the rb26dett swap in a 240 gnose with minor mods, was pushing near 400horses I believe. Was an absolute beast!
  17. I went from a 300zx tt to a 280z a couple of years back, the s30 was always on the list of cars I wanted but somehow I ended up being really disappointed. Going from 350 hp to 150hp left left me screaming for more.... So I ended up doing the l28et swap and slowly it grew on me, but I still ended up selling it because I want back in z32... More power, more comfortable, more space, more of everything :-)
  18. Maybe you could by one of those cheap pumps which you fit to a cordless drill and run a loop ? Before starting it up again, remove coil connectors or fuel pump relay so that you can crank it a couple of seconds to get oil pressure in the turbos without starting it :)
  19. yeah, I remember driving home from picking it up, a 500km trip. Refueling and two kids on a bicycle goes wild upon seeing it, the older people are more reserved, but they still take a glance from behind the wheel of they're 7seater underpowered minivan :P I could probably have driven it even further that day, didn't want to leave the car once I got home, thats 500km's of road going over three mountain passes, sunshine, it was perfect. I never had any problems with it, except for a fuel pressure regulator that got stuck, probably from winter storage and not being driven that much. I thought about selling it many times but every time I took a drive that question wasn't no more... Until I finally sold it this summer, been regretting it ever since. So I need a another one!
  20. Vertini Fairlady, 19x8.5. Neither does ours ;) But I only got pulled over once... I told the slightly pissed off officer that I had just mounted the bumper and was waiting for the license plate bracket, special order from japan, two weeks shipping and all that. He said "alright the put the license plate on the dash in the windscreen untill you get it properly mounted!" I said yes, sir! and never bothered any more with it... :P
  21. That's the word I was looking for :P I see they're a bit on the dark side... Here's two lighter ones:
  22. I'm 26 now, I first noticed the Z32 when I was about 15-16 years old and I said to myself; "one day..." That day came two years ago when I sold my Primera and decided that now was the time. So I found a swiss imported, original tt and I loved it. But this summer I sold it, dumbest thing I've done this year. Bought a 76' 280Z, as I've always loved the S30's too.... But it's not a ZX, it doesn't have the power, the presence, the interior space or the comfort of a Z32.... Driving a Z32, it gets in your blood, it's a car 20 years old that's still setting a presence wherever it goes, it's got 300 horsepower and pulls like a train, there is not much competition in my eyes... I'm probably heading to sweden next weekend to buy and import a 90 modell TT, as there is virtually none for sale here in Norway...
  23. I had this same problem with squeeky noises coming from the front, having owned a Primera I immediately thought it was the upper control arms as that's a common problem on those. It turned out the problem was the hood, those rubber stoppers made squeeky noises when the hood was down. Put a dab of vaselin on them and the problem was solved. Just a tip before you go out and buy expensive parts :)
