Just had a look through Jose parts, wasn't aware of the company before this. There is some really nice stuff. I particularly like the roof spoiler, very reasonable as well considering it's carbon fibre too. http://www.ionicdynamics.com/300zxnew17.html Although this has been unfortunate it will at least of brought the company into the spot light for the club. We could do with more American vendors on board here.

My Z is sick..........
Honestly Dave THE best most experienced vg30dett builders in the entire world have said that stock head gaskets are their go to gasket until power beyond most of our dreams at which point tomei is the choice. It's not just a case of Noel having an opinion it's the opinion of the tuning community at large based on experience. Z1 are a vendor at the end if the day so they arnt going to publish openly that the cometic gaskets have a higher than acceptable failure rate when they have a stock room left and public pressure isn't behind it. The fact remains that several high end professional builds in this country alone have failed due to design of the gasket. In short stock gaskets are cheaper and on average more reliable than cometic, so there is no need for cometic. If there in and working that's fine but if you have to replace for whatever reason it's not worth the risk or extra cost they present. On the subject of stock head gasket failure, I don't think it's honestly all that common. The biggest killer of zed engines in stock format is coolant system failure and the cause of most tuned ones is bad mapping, det etc. Despite what I was told years ago "zeds blow HG if you turn up the boost" we don't get a raft of this reported on the forum and I don't actually know anyone it's happened to off the top of my head. I personally think people expect too much out if a 25 year old engine at times, when you consider some of the poor maintenance and the amount of cars running 14 psi and a hope it works approach to a map it's not surprising they go pop. Maybe it's time to move back to the topic at hand; Russ are you sure your mixing oil and water? Have you made any tests to the effect? Having loss of fluid and brown water could be as simple as a corroded leaking coolant pipe. The lack of power could be a secondary or unrelated issue.

Salutations, one and all.
Oh just buy one already lol, you've been warned it's not sensible, we've been sensible grown ups and told you so. It sounds like your mind is pretty set on it, just please don't try to climb any trees or mate with anything solid. Have you made any enquires as per insurance? Do you have a budget to purchase the car initially?

From what I understand you purchased what was advertised as swb mud flaps right? You have received lwb mudflaps? Do they fit? If the item you have received isnt the item you paid for and is unsuitable well that's pretty simple and clear and you should be entitled to a full refund. If you purchased matt white paint and the pot that turned up was actually gloss in the matt packaging that's the vendors responsibility and you should expect a full refund, I think that's quite a fair example.

I only ask because the stock auto rad incorporates a transmission cooler, the aftermarket rad doesn't include this so provision for it is required. You may find the top soft pipe needs trimming to accommodate the thicker rad. It's a good time to replace the rad hoses.

Stock mounts won't fit, you can modify them but as they are they don't fit. AlanZ on here used to make aliminium rad brackets.

I stand by my orginal comments. I think the entusiasium is great and I understand your desire to drive the car you want, it seemed like a lifetime between me passing and me being able to drive anything even half cool. I hate hatchbacks so I was really disinterested in the saxo's and 106s my friends had I'm still disinterested in the golfs and civics they progressed on to. However in reality time does pass quickly insurance does come down and being a student is for most people something they grow out of. Video games are pretty good at showing the differences between different cars etc but seriously take it from me not real life. I can't lap the ring in 7 minutes in real life, you can't restart because you hit the Armco at 149mph and turbos don't explode, even if and when they do it doesn't cost you real money. I'm not trying to be rude but an 18 year old in a 300bhp 180mph car is a disaster waiting to happen, by the law of averages you will do silly things we all have/ do at times. The difference is you won't have the experience to give yourself a fighting chance of correcting it, you won't have the experience to know when not to drive like a loon and when you do make a mistake which you likely will you will be going twice the speed of any of your friends making the same mistake. Replacing a turbo will not cost you a few hundred quid, trust me. Replacing a turbo oil seal isn't a case of replacing the seal, it's a case of rebuilding a turbo and balancing it, you will end up doing them both because removing the engine took you 20 hours and you don't want to do that again, you will also end up changing a hose here and there because they are dead and it would be stupid not to. At which point £1k has disappeared, a few weekends and the oil and coolant haven't Coe out the budjet yet. It's an old sports car it WILL break, that's what happens it may not be tomorrow and it may not be next year it may not be something horrendous but it will happen. I'm not trying to put you off but if I sit here as captin sensible at 29 years old and think back 10 years would I have been able to afford a 300zx and would I of been able to resist the temptation to stab the loud pedal and go tree climbing. Honest answer no. If you really want one buy one as a long term project time will pass quicker than you think and you will get a better car in the long run. Alternatively buy one drive it for six months every day then tell us how feel. I really do wish you best of luck but I'm surprised an insurance company will touch you.

Evening all
Good evening and welcome. Plenty to look at and for, bear in mind that your looking at what could be a 25 year old sports car. Like any 90s Japanese car rust can be an issue even on imports. Worst places are rear arches and sill area. Footwells and seat mounts can suffer from bad targa seals or drains that allow water into the cabin. The tailgate can also be prone due to the oem foam spoiler retaining water and subsequently the spare wheel hole. Early cars had issues with the master cylinder leaking which can cause rot. That's about it rust wise, by far the most common is the rear sill area though. Engines should be smoke free and knock free. Take as long a test drive as you can overheating can be an issue with poorly kept examples. The vg30de is a very strong engine but poor maintaince will kill it. It should handle sharply and not be wobbly/wallowy. All the normal applies really. Look for a solid service/receipt list. These cars arn't the cheapest to run so expect to see some evidence of maintenance works. The z32 was a car ahead if it's time and nissans greatest hour on release so don't expect civic style ownership.
