  2. so you werent standing in the station with your stay press tousers, anorak, sanies and note pad then :D
  3. when I were a lad.....not so long ago, we used to run in any rebuilt engine or new vehicle for about 1000mls, with what was called running in oil. Never heard of anything for years that uses running in oil. cars are now dropped of at dealerships brand spanking new, taken out on road test by the apprentices and thrashed, no oil change, no run in, and the motors dont blow up. Better materials, design, build, and lubricants have made the old style running in on most motors a thing of the past. this may be different on specialist engines such as racing etc, but for most of us I think as long as you are sensible and dont redline before every gear change you wont do much harm. 30yrs ago when they used to go on about running in all the time, your car was considered nearly scrap if it had done over 100,000mls now they say a VW needs to do 80,000 before its running at its best
  4. Lol six posts and no mention of the words, sad, trainspotter, anorak :)
  5. As im in the process of replacing a lot of the bodywork on my car I want to protect the new panels as much as possible, so I did a bit digging around the net (classic car forums and the like), seems a lot of people dont like waxoyl and think it dries out leaving gaps which allow water in which then gets trapped. lots of good things said about dinitrol, Bilt hamber is the stuff ive gone for which has been recommended on a couple of classic forums and also the mig welding forum. heres a couple of links if your are doing any body work, that may come in handy. http://www.rust.co.uk/dinitrol-products.cfm https://www.bilthamber.com/news.html http://www.frost.co.uk/about_us.asp http://www.rustbulletuk.com/
  6.
  7. Just been reading some of the posts  wish I was going now, though i'd be taking some kevlar body armour :D
  8. i'm not going cause the cars still of the road, and all my spare time is now being put into fixing the fooka, before the neighbours start complaining about Steptoes yard being in the street and lowering the tone of the place. I would have gone had the car been up and running. If you make it down enjoy yourself !
  9. :) A quick lesson on the art of arc welding.
  10. Amazing.... must have been a few confused road users that day. Imagine seeing him fly by the other way, or better still being overtaken by the fooker
  11. Nice picks, but wheres the ones of the totty you were going to take :D or did the missus put a stop to that.

Everybody should now have seen this and had their chance to add any more suggestions. Most seem to agree that every couple of months is enough so we will go with that for starters, I will look to organise something towards the end of this month.
  14. lot of pissing about to do the back pipes, so that was a good price
  15. Easy a pair of mole grips clamped on the braided hose will stop you loosing all your fluid, and give you a nice firm brake peddal at the same time, you have to be ready to steer right everytime you press the brakes though. FOOKIN JOKING DONT TRY IT you are going to need to buy a new brake line bud :(
  16. Only 2 cars turned up for the show just outside Glasgow the other week, so I dont expect many will manage down to Sunderland. My car is still aint ready, lots still to do, so I wont make it either.......but have a good meet and thanks for the invite
  17. Just to give you an idea of how much work is involved, as im making all my own panels I went to the local steel merchant and bought a 6'x3' sheet of steel...... plenty enough to do the car and still have lots left to do a couple of other little jobs....... or so I thought, I may have to go buy more to do the inner sections behind the rear wheel arches.
  18. What the fook are you waiting for..thats mega cheep for the work involved, may be a little too cheep though and may reflect the quality of work. Not many body shops will take this kind of work on nowadays, just be sure he does the job properly, and not like the cowboys who just used filler on my car a couple of years ago, I'm now in the middle of doing the work myself
  19. everyone to there own lol!
  20. PS not that I remember their day you understand !! my grandad told me :D

Nope an ak is far to quick for the ****ers, needs to be a quick dip in an acid bath.......... hourly intervals, that way they feel the pain they caused, only it lasts far longer before they are finally dissolved.
  23. The MOT checks on number plates are also being tightened up, additional checks are soon to be added to the test, so if youve got a plate on that is a bit dodgy as to size, fonts etc, you might find you will fail the test whereas last year it passed.
  24. they still have to pass an emission test, but its not as strict as the later cat test. Dave what were the readings ?, as ive seen some cars incorrectly tested, ie tester has carried out a cat test just because there are cats fitted, and not bothered their arse to check what test is required
