  1. As theres already a joint meet with the NE & NW regions this month, and more importantly Ive left it too late to arrange anything this month, I suggest the next Scottish meet be held on the night of 18 October (a Thursday night to try and vary the days and times meets are held) looking at the spread of members I'm thinking that the meet be held around the Livingston area as its pretty central and handy for most of the Central Belt. I'll try and sus out a suitable location. nothings set in stone as yet, so any suggestions for alternatives are welcome Robert
  2. Ahh even handier, this is great all these offers of lifts to meets, I may not bother puting the car back on the road :D. was going to suggest meeting up at Hermiston Gate, if you are both up for that ( and if you bring your driving licences, i'll travel with the one with the least points for dangerous driving :) ) Robert
  3. The totty looks nice, not to keen on the klingon warbird though
  4. If its ok i'll accept your offer of a lift, though why arent you taking the missus and kids on this outing? Any problems and I can take the trusty pug. And if any other of the Scottish contingient are heading down do you want to meet up somewhere?
  5. Fook that I aint going all the way to Forton Services just to head back to Jedburgh! :) Cannongate it is, thanks for the info!
  6. where is the meeting point in Jedburgh?
  7. Seen i'd been removed from the list :( , so took the liberty of putting myself back on....... the car wont be there but i will. It will be nice to get away from the fooker for a little while.
  8. Sounds like a fun trip, and glad to hear the ZX didnt miss a beat. I'm planning on a trip in mine next year, a couple of days camping around the Scottish Northwest coast... especially to take in this road :- http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=c-YhP9gbOy4&mode=related&search= the same road but from the other way. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XKBV3EKL5c4&mode=related&search= Luckily the rest of the roads are mainly good a class, just what the Z was designed for.
  9. very sad for all involved, RIP
  10. Gotta agree with Paul youve spent so much and had so much work done it would be mad to get rid of it and buy another. who's to say that another Z wouldnt need any work done, you could end up buying another car and having to go through all the crap again. heed the old saying "better the devil you know"
  11. Cut out the rust and fabricate a repair with new metal, Nissan only sell complete panels, so you'd need to buy a rear quarter panel and inner panel. That looks a relatively simple job, if thats the only rust think yourself lucky. Ive got those sections still to do after already doing the front and rear quarter sections of outer sill, inner sill, and floor sections on both sides of the car as well as the nearside chassis leg. just got the offside chassis leg to do then i can get onto the rear behind the arch. The problem you will have is finding someone to do the work, decent bodyshops only seem to want to do accident repairs on new cars, good car restorers will do a good job if you can find one but will cost you an arm and a leg, and after having a crap repair carried out at a small backstreet repair shop I wouldnt recommend that route. If Andy knows someone who can do the job jump at the offer mate!
  12. If it is just a corroded plug, provided youve not been running the car low on coolant and caused overheating, you should get away with only replacing that.
  13. no probably just filled it with water to check for the leak, the corrosion would have occured previously though, possibly been eating away slowly over the years.
  14. "it drives exactly the same" somehow I dont think the cornering abilities will be quite the same.
  15. mate if its a hole through the middle it is more likely due to corrosion, if it was pressure related it would have pushed the plug out, and to be honest I doubt whether the coolant system could get to the kind of pressure required to push a plug out, the cap should have gone first then the next weekest links got to be hoses. seen a few leak due to corrosion and is usually an indication somebody has been running the engine without any anti-freeze or anti corrosion mix in the coolant. get a new plug in it, if youve got to strip parts of to get to it it may be worth doing any other core plugs in the area saves stripping it all back down again at a later date. PS i have seen instances of core plugs pushed out of a block, but these were always instances where no antifreeze was being used and the coolant froze solid.
  16. the best of the best and thats only the intro
  17. mine her album is ace.
  18. Thanks for the info and invite, I'm now a member of clan japan.
  19. I was quite content working away on the Z, a bit at a time, doing the job right and not rushing things, I was planning on doing all the bits that needed fixing over the rest of the year and putting it back on the road next spring.... now after being in yours I want it back on the road asap.... must resist or i'll just hash it all back together and regret it next year.
  20. lol and im the Scottish REO, and my car hasnt been on the road for nearly a year!. I just turn up at meets in the daily runner.
  21. Over the last couple of years since ive been a member, there have been countless requests for info on garages north of the border who can and are willing to work on Z32's. This thread is intended to assist members in finding them, if you know of any good garages pass on the info and i'll add them .....No blatant advertising or it will be deleted. If any garage wants to advertise on here leave a message for the TLO. As always, for routine servicing and repairs any good garage with half decent mechanics should be able to carry out the work, so you should find one locally, In the event of major work or fault finding difficulties then you may want to try some of the following. Cheers Robert Hypertec, Bonnybridge, Falkirk, 01324 812 212 CC Cars, Stirling, 01786 474555 Calder Motor Company, East Calder, 01506 880411 Fast Fix Autos, unit 21 larkfield ind estate, greenock 01475 635690 Cars Bodyshop, camps Ind Est, East Calder, 01506 885 777, ask for James - 07912144350 Harbour Garage, Perth ,01738639911 Checkpoint Garage, Arbroath, 01241 879999 SBS, Unit 1a canal bank, Sheildhill road, Falkirk, 01324 638339, 07854020327

  23. the place I served my apprenticeship had its own machine shop :) and engine shop, gearbox shop, fuel injection shop, body shop fook come to think of it the only thing it didnt have was a corner shop. I found the tolerances depended upon how much beer had been consumed by the engineers the night before :D.
  24. yes it made a lot of sense, appart from the mention of bedford their engines were all designed when Hitler was still in nappies, please dont compare them with anything thats been made in the last 40yrs :)
