nurberg ring trip
There are hotels at the circuit, although I guess they would be expensive. Im sure wozzer and others will have hotel recomendations ? How about leaving earlier on the friday and stopping off somewhere in France for the night. Make the most of the trip, instead of rushing to get there and back.

Turbo Refurb
Not sure why they told you that...or if they have only very recently stopped doing them. I've dealt with them a lot over the past couple of years, having sent about a dozen pairs to them. Cost is dependent on Turbo condition but typically £300-£400 each for stock refurb with 360 bearings. The other option for stock turbos is new CHRA's from the states, and reuse your old housings. Which would cost around £500 Or for a decent mild upgrade the Z1 GT525. More potential than the Sport500 for about same cost.

Import Tax??
Not sure on the U.S import regualtions, not entirely sure they pay any Duty or Tax, or if they do then its much lower, although that may be dependent on state.

Top Speed in Z - too scared of blowing up car
Yep, speedo's (on all cars, not just Z's) tend to be 5-10 percent out....so as the speed increases the less accurate they become.
-
Import Tax??
Yep, afraid so. They only consider items as gifts if value below £18 I believe.
-
Import Tax??
Quite often companies will mark the value lower, to save on Duty & Vat, but then you lose out if the item is lost or damaged, which I've had so its not really worth the risk.
-
Import Tax??
Sounds about right tbh. You should budget for around 22% of the cost (inc delivery) for Import duty, Vat & admin fee's. Not sure about the extra delivery charge though, never come across that before.

stoopid insurance companies
Yeh, the extra cost for import is a stupid generalisation. Dates back to about 20 yrs ago, when people wouls bring over grey imports that were never available within the UK and Main dealers would not touch them and there were no independent suppliers. Its all very different now, except the insurance companies still use it as an excuse to charge premiums - probably because an owner of an Imported vehicle is going to be an enthusiast and more willing to pay a premium for his toy.
