I need to drill a hole to tap for a bolt - long story involving hair pulling :headvswal Once the bolts are undone does it just pull away? What about the bar connecting the two throttle bodies?

It solves the problem of using high beam whilst your headlights are on, but if you flash your lights whilst the headlights are off then the HIDs will flash too - which isn't good.

I need to remove the n/s throttle body. Can this be done without removing the plenum?

UPDATE Firstly I've found that my dim-dip system wasn't working due to corroded terminals at the green dim-dip box. Now that is fixed my headlights do come on dim when the sidelights are on and the ignition is on - not good for HIDs due to the lower voltage. So on a UK car this needs to be bypassed as detailed by scottztt above. However this does not solve the problem of the HIDs going off when full beam is activated. You still need to carry out the relay mod posted by groover (page 1) or by grounding the stock relay.

Mine is a 91. I'm surprised this has not been brought up before - HIDs and UK cars. My kit, bought from DTA made no mention of it. If my understanding is correct the dim-dip setup could potentially damage the ballasts. I will point Danny in the direction of this thread and see what his thoughts are.

Got you now. I've forwarded your reply to Luke to see if it jogs his memory. I'm a little confused on what the dim-dip facility does on the UK cars. If I put the light switch on the first notch the side lights come on in the bumper, second notch the headlights come on. Does anyone know what the dim-dip bit is?

Ta for the info. I've had a look at my car and can see the green box. Presumbably you had to unscrew it to get access to the wires? Have I read it correctly that you leave the red/black wires connected to the dim/dip module and simply run a cable (jumper) between them?

To summarise, Simply installing the HIDs without any mods results in HIDs going off when using high beam whilst lights are on = not good You can earth either pin 5 of the existing relay or the ballast which results in HIDs remaining on when using high beam whilst lights are on = good, but HIDs will flash with high beams when lights are off = not good for HID life. Groover's posted word doc is what I was orginally after. The HIDs stay on when using high beam when lights are on, but HIDs stay off when flashing when lights are off. Now we're waiting to see if scottztt can show another way of doing it that achieves Groover's method. It's also unclear if JAP and UK cars are different.

Fair enough. I haven't compared those instructions to my car yet. If your way is simpler it'd be very welcome.

I'm hoping to install a HID kit this weekend. Has anyone got the wiring diagram for the relay mod that allows you to flash the high beam leaving the HIDs off.

That would be one tight space! As UK cars didn't have this functionality full stop controlling it through the alarm seems a good compromise. It's also what many manufacturers do as standard now-a-days.

If it was me i'd put your UK control in which has the seat heting controls and try and find a way for the alarm to close the mirrors when you arm it.

I take it the cars registered in your dads name??

Not at the moment - one doesn't get used much and the other bounces between the bodyshop and my garage. Hopefully i'll be out and about later in the year.

Probably too late - removal of the cats has just shown that your tubs are on the way out. I'd imagine your going to need to replace the tubs soon.

I've also got a 99spec front - had no problems with that. The rear bumper is like paper in comparison.

HELP I've had my car resprayed - full bumper off, window out jobbie. The rear bumper before being refitted started to show stretch marks in the paint, even more so when fitted to the car. The body shop confirmed they'd had problems with it and had ended up spraying it twice. Anyway they chose to try again on another bumper (supplied by me) - it seemed to work ok this time but now i've got it home (not yet fitted to car) i can see stretch marks appearing again :mad: The rear bumpers are incredibly bendy compared to the front and I wonder if the paint simply isn't able to stretch with it hence the marks. I'm wondering if a solution is to have it sprayed whilst fitted to the car. :confused: Has anyone else had any problems like this, did people leave their bumpers on the car for a respray? It's strarting to drive me nuts. The respray wasn't cheap - but I can't blame the bodyshop as they've made no quibble attemps to rectify it and are as much in the dark as I. Any ideas?
