If the polarity had flipped on the battery surly it would still do it with the alt disconnected?

Defo the alt, it's off the car and I have power, but for all intense and purposes it was wired up correctly? So now I'm more confused than ever Plug in to socket, large ring connector with cover on the stud with 12mm bolt attached, small ring connector mounted to rear of alt with tiny 8mm bolt? So at the moment I'm seriously confused lol

I have a feeling that If both of those ring connecters are lives, then I have a feeling that's the problem, seem to remember having trouble with the One that uses the tiny little bolt to connect to the alternator

That's a bad earth as well. first port of call on anything like this, would be the earth wire. once you have a direct feed from the main earth on the Unit to the chassis and your still experiencing problems, then start checking else where, but for now, first port off call as i said, should be earthing the unit properly. especially with a zed, first thing you do when wiring up the stereo, is get the main earth wire coming from the back of the unit, and wire that directly to the screw on the chassis behind the stereo, forget about using the earth on the 300zx stereo ISO connector as its pants. If you don't earth it to the body of the car you get all sorts of drama.

good call, will give it a try tomorrow. if it does, time to change the alt?

ok, my harness is slightly different to this, one the oil pressure sender wire is on the other side of the engine bay, i also have a auto so most of the gearbox plugs wire directly into the gearbox. A6 however, isnt clearly marked as to the 2 ring connecters, the plug is plugged into the alt, but i always though those two ring connectors were earths.

got a m meter, but no battery, its ok ill just do it the old fasion way and double check all the connections are around the correct way. I suppose it was the wrong thing to do until id got my head sorted out to be honest. working on the car when your not quite thinking straight isnt the best solution.

well the Alt i connected up as the engine was going in, plugged the plug in, and bolted on one earth to it, then there is the little earth lead i also did up, i remember that as steams was watching the engine hoist, but ill check again in the morning.

already thought of that, still doing it, when i do finally connect it, im getting no power on ign, so something is still not right, ive had to down tools for now as its too dark, it was a fully charged battery i put on, but still i cant understand why its arching and heating the neg terminal before i get the battery connections on. there is nothing drawing power by the way.

Battery neg lead goes like this bud, Battery, firewall, engine, gearbox bolt, ive not connected the doodah ontop, the only other wire on the live is one for the amp, but there is no power to that with out the ign switched on Doesnt matter what way around i connect the battery, i know about the few small sparks, but im getting arching and heating of the neg wire, so something defiantly isnt right.

yep, only thing i can think of missing at this moment in time (but will have to check) is if the main earth off the battery is mounted to the back of the engine, hope so as thats one tight fecking squeeze to get in and bolt it on.

well, thought id take my mind off of recent events and get a bit more done on the motor, anyway went down to the car once the little ones were all tucked in bed, connected the fuel lines, connected the coil packs and injectors, cas unit / TPS / ICV, O2 sensors, boost solenoids and what not, went to connect the battery, connected the earth first, went to connect the live and im getting arching like the 4th of july plus smoke from the negative wire, so removed the live instantly. what would be the cause of this? im at a loss as the live is fed down to the start motor and connected at the correct points. the neg is also mounted on the gearbox mount bolt at the correct point. but seems like there is a short some where in the main loop. so what would be the main cause of fireworks at the positive / negative terminals on the battery when connecting? problem is with recent events i cant even remember what or if I've missed a major earth point, which im sure is what the cause is, but would like a second opinion please.

defo an earthing issue, mine used to turn its self off when i turned the volume up, soon as i used a separate earth off the earth wire to the chassis it sorted its self out.

had the same the problem with my red one, failed on rear number plate failing to illuminate on one of the bulbs, was down to a dodgy light connection, then had the front spot lights the incorrect color due to the same reasons you described, the fact the fog had a blue plastic covering over it that was being reflected off the inside of the housing when the bulb was switched on, giving it a blue look. and then there was the annoying "rear wheel bearing has too much play" when it was nothing to do with the wheel bearing but was the hicas arm instead. but that rear number plate bulb seems to be a very common problem, as both my black zed failed on that, and also my red zed, and now i know im going to have to fix the one on my blue zed before that goes for a MOT, as noticed in one of my photos that the bloody bulb is out on one side. must be something to do with the bulb fixings going very rusty. glad you got the pass, but shame a garage when its as something as simple as a bulb, wont let you change the damn thing there before they fail it for the first time around. saving you the hassle of having to do a partial retest.

yes bud, ive had to put up with a lot of stress due to all of this, coupled with the fact ive been trying to get her to see the kids, yet she likes to refuse all access then stick it on her facebook how im stopping her seeing the kids :blink: doesnt matter its all documented for the courts. ive pretty much kept it off the forum for now, but im sure can understand why. but just needed to make people waiting on parts aware why they were late. sorry guys but my children come first.

add to the fact she didnt return them for 3 days as well while under court order too.

got the kids back about 3ish went with a police escort, and when they said if she refused she would be arrested and charged she handed them back over, just got the court date on Tuesday now to finalise things, not sure if shes going to get visiting order or not but if she does it will be supervised visits that's for sure. the last few days has been a bloody nightmare to be honest. will get the things out sharpish for people now i can rest a bit, as shes under court order not to take the kids with out my consent now. problem was, if she refused today, i wouldnt of been able to get the arrest warrent until monday

I'm currently having a bit of a nightmare situation at the moment, im not going to go into to much detail as there is still a court case on going, but the short of it is, Tuesday at around 6:30pm while my mrs had the kids, they were snatched from her arms by the mother, at the time we were going through the process of custody. following day on Wednesday i got granted a residency order for the children to be returned to my care, she has failed to do so, so at present i have a lot of stuff on my mind and ive been in and out of court trying to protect my children. They still are not back in my care at this present time. so im having to stay in and play the waiting game. thats the jist off it. once they are back safely in my care, ill get the parts sent out too you, i hope you can find the understanding at this present time as this is a very stressful situation not only for my children (who i dread to think how they are coping with this) and me and my immediate family. Please bear with me they should be back soon.

Photo shop is the daddy for a reason mate, your not limited by the amount of effects you can use, as you can just go down load one for your version, you can use downloaded PS brushes and if used in the correct manor, you can come up with endless possibilities, plus the fact you can make animated gifs with PS as well, there really is nothing that program cant do in away, you can always add what you need to photo shop to get the job done, think of it like the iphone, PS is the phone, the add ons are on the app store.
